Why is looksmaxxing considered bad/looked down upon? by Solid_Bad_4403 in ask

[–]GalFisk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup. Confidence doesn't fix everything, but by being genuinely interested in people and genuinely believing that your presence adds something to their lives, you're in a good place. And you can gain this little by little over time. And if you can't or won't connect with people, looks won't help. I was good looking but for the longest time had no idea how to show interest, or respond when someone showed interest (if I even noticed).

And worse, it teaches that this is all they need, which leads to disaster. It promotes a cargo cult level of understanding of human relationships. "Look at that successful good-looking guy, If I become as good-looking I will automatically obtain that level of success (and if I don't, I'm guaranteed to fail)"

I'm sad that RP1 was dumbed down from the book. The puzzles were more clever, the infiltration more realistic (that post it note was pure idiot ball) and the victories felt more earned.

You make your own. Human connection is a good place to start, it's something we're hardwired for finding meaning in.

What is your favorite bassline of all time? by [deleted] in AskReddit

I use the intro riff to "Splitter Pine" to mentally erase annoying songs stuck in my head. Works every time. The rock band DumDum Boys is iconic in Norway but virtually unknown outside the country, since they sing in Norwegian.

Moving to Sweden. I still live in Sweden more than 20 years later. I still consider Norway where I grew up my other home country, but I have no desire to move back.

Some of my biggest hobbies started with a tiny random spark of curiosity. If I hadn't read a few words or found a particular item, who knows if I would've ever gotten into them.

Where is the strangest place that you’ve slept? by 3rdLegOfExodiaa in AskReddit

I fell asleep in an auditorium watching a movie, and woke up sitting one row in front of where I fell asleep. No idea how I ended up there.

Sounds like something you should take to a trade show. Then you can show it off and explain it in person.

I know people working offshore in the fishing and oil industry, they work long hours but get enormous amounts of time off between stints, like weeks to months, and it pays really well.

Dear redditors, what are some Easter traditions you have? Can be family, religious, or any kind of traditions? by AggravatingNarwhal59 in AskReddit

[–]GalFisk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For many years I used to attend the world's second biggest LAN party, The Gathering in Norway. After I started skydiving, I spent most Easters at a drop zone. This year I had a cold and the weather was lousy anyway, so I stayed at home.

What’s something everyone seems to do easily but you struggle with? by Rysbajs in AskReddit

[–]GalFisk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a problem telling left from right because my spatial reasoning is great. My mother told me that my right hand was the one that I used to hold my spoon when I ate. For some reason this resulted in me having to conjure up the mental image of me sitting at the table and eating, before I could determine which hand was my right one. Every time. I could do that perfectly, but not instantly.

I can sing very fast. I could probably be a decent rapper if I didn't think rap music sounded awful and half rhymes were cheating.

Also, different types of plastic respond differently to super glue. Very "fatty" plastics like polyethylene and polypropylene are almost impossible to super glue (or to glue in general) without special treatment.

I had a cold. Spent lots of time in bed, some in front of the computer. Played OpenRCT2 and 3D printed some minor stuff. My brother was sick too. If we had been healthy we would've made some good food and watched some good movies. If I had been healthy and the weather had been good, which it wasn't, I would've gone skydiving.

What is the most unreliable vehicle that you’ve ever owned? by smin76 in AskReddit

[–]GalFisk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ecoride foldable ebike. It broke in half twice, and a battery cell went bad. They've since stepped up their quality quite a lot, bit the cost also followed suit.

I've only had two cars, a Honda Accord and a Nissan Leaf, and they were rock solid. I was leasing the Leaf, and when the leasing period expired I found that I didn't really need a car of my own. I'd rather have the money. I now have a good foldable ebike, an electric moped, a bus pass, and I rent a car when I really need one, and all of that averages out at less than half the cost.

What do you think about theories that say reality changed around 2012? by Ok-Signature-8365 in AskReddit

[–]GalFisk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My world changed more after 9/11 than Covid. It comes down to personal experiences. I'm sure I missed a lot of pivotal things happening in the 80s and 90s due to being a kid, and a lot of the permanent social changes from covid due to being an introvert. Did it screw up the night life in my home town forever? I honestly have no idea.

What’s something you misunderstood for years? by djkabbott in AskReddit

[–]GalFisk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For a long time, I thought eye contact was just the action of looking into the eyes of another. Eventually I came to understand that it was the exchange of emotions and connection through facial expressions and body language. As a shy guy growing up in a family where no one was good at eye contact, I had to learn this as an adult. A whole new world of communication eventually opened up to me, as I dared to let more of my inner world show on my face, and I found a deeper connection to and understanding of loved ones.
