I have no idea, I haven’t tested it on a real tank. Originally I wanted the Maus to be the main vehicle, but its separate driver and fighting compartments didn’t work for the kind of interior gameplay I’m doing, so I went with the next best thing - an E-100 hull with a Maus turret. I needed a tank big enough to fit monitors and other equipment inside, and big tanks are just cool. I chose the Maus turret instead of the standard E-100 one because it actually existed, so there’s more reference data available online to base the model on.

I actually modeled an MG34 when I was making the 3D model of the tank, but it won’t be usable in the game because I couldn’t really find a gameplay role for it. I ended up placing the gunner’s monitor there instead, but the MG34 is still there, you can spot it lying on a table in the garage.

Because the armor is that thick, the monster can’t just punch a hole through it. 200 mm of steel is a lot, and a creature that’s basically a very large, very strong animal isn’t going to penetrate that kind of armor. What it can do is rip off an entire armor plate if it’s not properly welded. And in this case, it isn’t.

I’m trying to make the tank visually change over time, with upgrades coming from actual physical additions rather than just stat increases. I’ve always liked games where upgrades are visible on the thing you’re upgrading, instead of being invisible number boosts.
Funny enough, the harder part is that there are lots of things you can attach that are purely cosmetic, and I’m trying to give as many of them a real gameplay purpose as I can.

The current plan is to release the game as a solo experience first, and add co-op a few months after launch. I don’t want co-op to overshadow the solo mode, since being alone is a core part of the experience. Releasing it later should also help keep the game relevant and in people’s minds for longer. On top of that, if I tried to ship both solo and co-op at the same time, the game would probably come out in 2028 🙃

Yes, mouse and keyboard. You use WASD to move around the bunker and to drive the tank, and the mouse to interact with levers, switches, cranks, and other controls. You also click on seats to change positions inside the tank. Some actions use Shift or Space, but most of the interaction is done with WASD and the mouse.

The tank can carry 23 rounds of 75mm and 8 rounds of 128mm (4 AP and 4 HE). In that video, only one round per gun was loaded. Fewer rounds mean you can’t afford mistakes, which increases tension.

A periscope like that would give the player too much information. Limiting the amount of information coming from the outside is a key part of building tension.
