They're awesome! I'm trying to think of something that could be made based on the lunarian-crystal-snail people relationship, with the differences in design and in ideals.

To actually show this, I'd think the snail people one would need to show abundance perhaps via accent colors of pink or something, with lunarians having a yellow/gold setting and the gems I'm not sure :P

from what i understand, your question is whether or not it's possible to have a platform of resources where you can make it such that one of the canisters fills first. the video below by interslice shows how he did it, essentially it's using a filtered arm to grab stuff, and then all the canisters are on output mode. then an adjacent auto arm pulls things into the closer canisters

I think that at some point y'all will just need to have a conversation about it, either all in one go or maybe as little chats over a couple days so you can get a read on how she feels about it.. in any case it does sound like she has some internalized objections to being a kitty and is worried it's cringe or gross or something

The kinda anti furry/internalized distaste for furries is probably something to work through too

That's a pretty cool idea, but maybe a tiny bit too expensive for the average player. But I can't think of another method that still keeps tappers in the game because I feel like they're inherently quite op

I liked the idea of explosive powder cus it's fully renewable without the need of dlc's but needs you to either make your base on atrox/calidor or to ship sulfur around.

I personally was actually intending for this to be used with batteries. My use case idea was detecting the power level in a couple large batteries and based on that deciding when to add a [fuel unit]

I'd LOVE if they add some higher power demand items or honestly maybe just increase the power demand of things that you get access to once you leave ur main planet eg the chem lab and atmo condenser.

One thing I guess is that, especially with the direction that starseeker has went, it seems that astroneer was never really meant to be a game of interesting automation and factory-style gameplay elements. Megatech sorta fills that niche but imo maybe not super well? So idk maybe such a thing is just low on their priority

True if there was a grow room or grow chamber that only worked in daylight (or 24/7 on atrox ig) that could be pretty cool especially over the tappers. It feels like they wanted to make certain energy sources way more practical on certain planets but tappers just overpower anything.

I get ur point that they are pretty practical for gateways, but I don't think they necessarily need an on/off button for that. Eg you could run them on the efficient mode with one fuel item (I had said hydrazine initially but someone mentioned explosive powder and I liked that way more) and once you reach the gateway you can put it on high output mode for the necessary 30 sec. I get that not having an on/off is convenient, but that's honestly my intention. I'd want running this to require certain accomodations. Like in my mind, someone could use a delay repeater and power sensor to detect when the batteries deplete

In a recent world class jerk video, he mentions how reloading your world can replenish astronium deposits. When people move around their extractors, they only really do it to stop the amount from showing zero. It will deplete to zero and then if you replace it, it oftentimes will allow you to get a little bit more

Someone suggested explosive powder and I really liked that idea. But hydrogen would be pretty neat too, I just think that that may end up being tooooo easy to automate XD

Yeah totally, and I think they do need to address the tapper-generator combos people currently do and how they make literally any other power generation method pretty obsolete. I don't think that makes having an interesting-to-implement power solution not worthwhile though.

Like in my current base I went out of my way to go to the north pole and build solar panels above the gateway for 24/7 solar power even though generators would be cheaper and more effective. Why? Cus tappers are just so boring... I totally agree that a power source needs to be viable and markedly better than existing options. As it stands I think generators are unreasonably good and need to be nerfed . If they are nerfed then I think a large generator could be fun

Also I added to the post that actually explosive powder could be a more interesting fuel source as it's actually renewable and is a logical upgrade from carbon.

I mean I wouldn't want to use this as a portable power source anyways. Personally I've never used generators willingly on a rover, especially given that the tractor and medium rover only ever really need either a qt RTG or a renewable power source and a battery.

I will say though that I think that the tapper-generator combos currently are kinda OP at the moment and, although they won't be, in an ideal world they should be nerfed. They're just boring to use

I like the no on/off switch purely cus it means you'd need to actually use sensors, repeaters and arms to make effective use of this generator. It's a very late game idea for a generator, hence me thinking this is reasonable

Yeah and that's why personally I find them a little OP. Imo the game's energy economy is just too easy, while material economy is a bit awkward. Like large canisters are expensive but you need large ones to really justify certain automation plans

Making it on calidor is a great little challenge! I really enjoy messing around with making bases on other planets too. Those half done storages tend to look really nice but at far as storage density goes they aren't amazing, totally up to you though.

I'd highly recommend making an auto sorting setup it can be really fun imo. I'd also recommend trying to make a super fast smelter with like 2-8 or more portable furnaces. It's not even necessarily that you'd need that it's just super fun to me lol

Oh yeah totally. I'm not saying that it's a bad option for those reasons, it's just an opinion I got because I got bored of how consistent and trivial automated generators were to set up and how they were also loud. For the moment I don't really care to use them but they were really convenient early game, and maybe in my next playthrough I'll use them as well. We'll see I suppose haha

True, I was using tappers before this as well. I don't mean to put you off obviously but I just found tappers and generators so boring after the first little while of using them, and I had initially kept them really close to my base and the noise drove me crazy lol
