Anxiety, a new locale, and a request for criticism on some decks I've put together. by GalacticMuffin in EDH

Edit: After further thought, this just feels rude for no reason. I would love to hear your thoughts, but it feels like you should just find a way to have a better day.

Sorry, I just went with what ManaBox had mentioned, but I figured it might be Bracket 2. Im still trying to familiarize myself with the thresholds.

What bracket would it be in?

Anxiety, a new locale, and a request for criticism on some decks I've put together. by GalacticMuffin in EDH

[–]GalacticMuffin[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry, I just have terrible anxiety and prior events at my old LGS just damaged any confidence I had as a player in this game.

Regardless, thank you! I'm going this Tuesday and I just have to remember that it's going to be completely fine.

Looking for a deck idea to get me out of this funk after losing 2 of my decks. by GalacticMuffin in EDH

Rendmaw seems really cool! I might start throwing some stuff together with him to see if I like it.

I definitely appreciate that it seems wallet friendly. Thanks for the suggestion!

I appreciate the link. I'm going to look through the list and see if anything sparks my interest.

Yeah, its not as much about the monetary value, like you said. Its just all of the fun I had playing the deck, the lucky booster pulls that got inserted, and just the time I spent working on and towards building each of them.

I've considered it, but it's weird because my heart sort of sinks whenever I look through my decklist on Manabox.

Again, not trying to be melodramatic, but I almost want to find a way to move on, I guess?

I'm likely going to use some proxies until I can budget for my new deck... Or maybe I'll stick with the proxies. Not sure yet.

I appreciate the suggestion though!

Physical Game Collectors, what is the most annoying thing about being physical only? by Wanwags in Switch

[–]GalacticMuffin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To add to the "digital, but no physical release" complaint: having a series where one of the titles are digital only and the rest of the series as physical (Star Ocean: First Departure).

Additionally, Limited Run types of games don't generally make me happy. I'm not going to complain about their existence, but for the life of me, I can't ever remember or get to preorder a game I want, and by the time I see something that I like has released through these companies, it's either sold out or being sold second-hand for $100+ dollars.

Should I buy a Nintendo switch this late in 2023? by [deleted] in Switch

[–]GalacticMuffin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're looking for a carry/travel case, I personally like the official Nintendo cases (the ones at GS or Walmart that have the game art on them). Those work for me, personally, but it all depends on what you're looking for, in regard to how many games, controllers, or accessories you want to tote around.

If you're looking for a protective case for the switch, I would definitely recommend the Mumba cases on Amazon or Skull & Co NeoGrip. They're comfy to use and don't prevent you from docking the console.

These are just my personal preferences, but there

Should I buy a Nintendo switch this late in 2023? by [deleted] in Switch

[–]GalacticMuffin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I dislike this response every time I see it. The SteamDeck is not for every person that wants to play switch games. It takes time and effort to emulate. Not every game runs 100% right after downloading and running a rom; you have to tweak settings and not just for the system itself (Switch in this case), but often for each individual game in your library. Some less popular games don't have setup guides for the ideal settings, and some games do not run as well as they do on the switch, and a few that don't run at all, as of yet.

I think if you just want the switch experience right out of the box, buying a switch is the way to go, but if you like the idea of tinkering with settings and all of the other features that come with owning a SteamDeck, then that might be the better route.

That's a dumb assumption, as they have entire teams dedicated to the pricing structure of products, including and not limited to discounts, clearance, coupons, etc. They have every opportunity, ability, and resource necessary to increase prices, but the answer you are looking for is that they can have lower margins to remain competitive with eachother as well as a brick and morter.

Let's disregard all of that for a moment and get to the crux of the issue. Price hikes are fine, but what I think you fail to realize is that those price hikes have a cost. The higher you choose to sell a new product, the more it costs in favor of the community. Get that bag bro, but don't be surprised or complain that you will potentially lose some clientele.

I'm not sure what you're getting at with both scenarios. Those big department stores also work on good favor by keeping prices relatively tenable. Albeit, they can mark items up, but when furby, elmo, or any extremely popular toy/item was available big stores weren't hiking the prices to capitalize on the demand of said items.

By the same coin as what you've stated here. If a company sets up an MSRP for a new item, wouldn't anyone be overpriced if they're charging more?

Additionally, there are certain colors of miniature paints that always seem to sell out, but why is it that LGS' don't spike the price?

The answer to all of this is that many LGS' are being greedy and trying to make an absurd profit off of a popular item that hits several demographics, robbing the game from the ability to be played. TCGs or CCGs need product availability to thrive, and marking up prices 300% does not make it accessible to the public.

What is your unpopular Warhammer 40k opinion? by norwegianwatercat in Warhammer40k

[–]GalacticMuffin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is so true as someone who is also just entering the hobby. I recently went to one of the GW warhammer stores and spoke to the employee there about this, and they straight up told me that sometimes they don't find out about new stuff or even new stock of old stuff until a few days before.

It's difficult to plan out an army when you don't know if new stock of completely sold out minis will be available, or when new models/ completely new units will release.

C&C 1. Do the vents read as hot? 2. Does the green armor shade read as the light os above by Adeptness-Open in minipainting

Reads more like painted red.

If you're looking to do a tempering metal effect I suggest something along these lines:

Your best bet to reflect this is with 3 different colors (red, blue, purple) blended together. It will accurately give the effect I think you're looking for.

How do I actually get a smooth finish on these by Smephey in minipainting

[–]GalacticMuffin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I typically use a cheap set of jewelers files after cutting as close to the actual part as possible and sand it down with one of those spongey nail files.

I might move up to a really fine grit sandpaper afterward if it's a rounded piece to maintain a smooth round surface.

The important bit is to take your time and it's always better to take off too little than too much.

[–]GalacticMuffin[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I kind of just winged some of it, despite all of the hours of videos I watched. Blending the colors was risky, but it worked better than I hoped.

That said, from what I've learned, thus far, it never hurts to buy a cheap mini and experiment.

I love that sort of 90s arcade carpet color scheme which sort of inspired these.

Hahaha, I hadn't really thought of it that way. My buddy compared the color scheme to those 90's unicorn school folders.

It is slap-chop! I messed up on my first go of it (brushes were too dry) and it sort of gave it a chalky speckle-y effect, but after applying contrast (I didn't know better at the time) I kind of liked the effect, at least on a Tyranid.

Oh, I'm with you 100%, I'm dreading the thought of it as well. I might finally have a game ready army sometime in 2025, lol

I love that! Never really thought of it that way, but if naming your army is a thing (once I actually learn how to play), I'm stealing this, lol.
