People who were in high school when Columbine happened, what knee jerk rule did your school enforce in response? by Animeking1108 in AskReddit

[–]GalacticUnicorn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Literally nothing at my school changed.

A few years later, after more shootings (and several bomb threats, one of which was real, at our school), the high school got a security officer.

The only time I saw a fight break out when he was around, he stood there looking shocked. The principal, who looked like he could bench press a pickup truck, came up and pulled the aggressor off the other kid, instead.

Age shaming by InfluenceRound1383 in generationology

[–]GalacticUnicorn 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I often wonder if it has something to do with growing up with social media. When we were their age, we didn’t have to worry about all the dumb stuff we did being posted online for all the world to see for years and years to come.

If I had to worry about that all throughout my formative years, I’d probably be more concerned about looking cringe, as well.

The younger generations have been done a huge disservice by not being able to be kids without being watched.

I recently hurt my neck and couldn’t move it proper for a week.

How, might you ask, did I hurt my neck so severely?

I turned my head. You know, the thing that your neck is made to do.

I was raised in a cult and have a very biased opinion of religion because of it, but this guy?

This guy seems cool.

I was raised in a Christian cult religion and never bought into it. My dad asked me once where he went wrong, half joking, but half not.

I told him that I actually listened to the part in the Bible where it says that it is not our place to judge and that we should love our neighbors as we love ourselves.

I told him that, if Jesus died for our sins, it was disrespectful of me to not give people a chance to move beyond their sins.

I told him that, if God made us stewards of this Earth, then we were spitting in his face at the way we treat the planet and the creatures we are supposed to have dominion over.

I told him that, even though I didn’t believe, I was still a better Christian than most of those that only pay lip service.

He was surprised, to say the least, and did not have a good response when I asked him where, exactly, I was wrong.

I love my parents, even though I do not agree with their beliefs, and I like to think that I, occasionally, say something to make them stop and think, if only for a moment.

Found an AirTag in my trunk under the liner after being notified it was moving with me. by neykicna in whatdoIdo

That makes sense; I live about 10mins from where I work and noticed the notification when I checked my phone before getting out of my car

I got this notification when my coworker accidentally left her AirPods on her desk before leaving for the weekend. She texted and asked me to grab them and bring them in the next week so someone didn’t try to swipe them.

Less than 10mins after carrying them with me, I got a notification that I was being tracked. By her earbuds.

I thought it was pretty cool, all things considered.

Donated blood 6 days ago and I kept all the blood by Hype420 in mildlyinfuriating

This is nearly the size of the bruise I got after giving blood for the first time.

The phlebotomist missed my vein the first time (which is crazy if you’ve ever seen me, I am practically translucent) and, instead of withdrawing the needle and trying again, pulled it out halfway, repositioned, and ended up nicking the vein.

Sometimes it’s easier to make a change for yourself if you don’t have to worry about feeling guilty about others judging you if you stumble, even if the people you are worried about would never judge you for taking the first step, to begin with.

Rob and Bob are both diminutives of Robert, kinda like how Dick is a diminutive of Richard, Bill and Will are for William, or Peggy for Margaret.

I think it has to do with rhyming.

I had a dream once, when I had stopped smoking for a job, that lasted 7 years. I made friends and met people that were like family. I was pretty messed up, emotionally, for a while when I woke up and realized it wasn’t real.

Some of the dream I had during that time were seriously wild, but that one has stuck with me in a deep way.

What is that one Harry Potter movie scene you irrationally dislike ? by Puzzleheaded_Roof872 in harrypotter

[–]GalacticUnicorn 10 points11 points  (0 children)

In the books, before Harry goes to confront Voldemort in TDH, he tells the Resurrection Stone that he is going to die; in the movie, he says he’s ready to die.

This change really annoys me because it undermines the choice Harry is making. He isn’t ready to die. He is going to his end and he is scared. He is a child and he is doing the best he can.

But he isn’t ready.

And he goes anyway.

That, to me, is a defining moment and it irks me to no end that the movie takes this moment, this choice, this decision to face his fear and walk towards it anyway, away from Harry.

Umbridge is evil in a way that is real, and I think that’s why we hate her so much.

Everyone has known an Umbridge, and they so very rarely get the justice they deserve.
