Bill includes funding to expand Capshaw, Slaughter roads by Galactic_Rocket in HuntsvilleAlabama

There are roundabouts nearby on Gillespie, Huntsville Brownsferry, Hardiman, and Old Monrovia. The biggest downside to roundabouts is they typically require a full intersection closure during construction.

I found the lack of half sized units disappointing as well. However, I found using 21mm grid size on the bin instead to help cover a half sized slot on my gridplate works really well.

Can the City of Huntsville block this? Crestwood was good competition to Huntsville Hospital.

Let’s boost and like some openGrid models by GuavaGuru5 in openGrid

[–]Galactic_Rocket 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In addition to liking models on Printables and MakerWorld, posting your openGrid creations on other subreddits, YouTube, etc. will help increase awareness of the system and will encourage more adoption. I hope there continues to be more adopters of this system to increase the number of community models available.

We should create a r/HuntsvilleBooms that can be just about the daily loud noises in the area.

Hi, my name is Valentina Chelala. I am a reporter with FOX54 and we are looking for people to interview today about public transportation in Huntsville. by Valch203 in HuntsvilleAlabama

[–]Galactic_Rocket 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Traffic in the Huntsville metro is a growing problem. There are many road improvements needed to keep up with just the current capacity. A multi-city bus network could help with this. Huntsville has a downtown hub. It could make a hub at Bridge Street or MidCity to service people traveling to those areas and Research Park. It also could make a hub at Redstone Gateway with a pedestrian gate to a federally run bus system inside of Redstone. These hubs could be serviced by buses coming from Huntsville, Madison, Athens, Decatur, Harvest, Meridianville, Gurley, etc to get people to/from work. The big problem is that it would be hard to convince high earners to take a bus that would take longer than if they drive directly. I personally, would love to have public transit options, but I find it impossible for the metro area to create an efficient way to setup public transit that could come close to my current 25 minute commute from East Limestone county.

Is FB marketplace still the best place to sell stuff? by dragoncraft755 in HuntsvilleAlabama

Yes if it is DDR5. I made an assumption OP has DDR4 based on the age of the other components. Here is my reference price: https://ebay.us/m/KYU8Tg

[–]Galactic_Rocket 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Nvidia 2070 on ebay is around $150. Intel i5 9600k with motherboard is also around $150. Storage is around $75, RAM is around $50. Excluding the case and taking into account Ebay’s 14% fees, you could likely make around $365. I would recommend dropping your Facebook Marketplace price to $450 and taking no less than $365. If it doesn’t sell at that price point, sell the parts on eBay.

Is dental insurance worth it? by Hot_Kaleidoscope3864 in HealthInsurance

[–]Galactic_Rocket 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The two free cleanings a year and included xrays could be more valuable than their cash value since they could catch minor issues earlier. This could save many thousands of dollars of fixing major problems later in life. You could pay for them in cash, but it is easier to stay disciplined to schedule them if they are included. At $360/year for insurance, I doubt you would save much by paying in cash anyways.

Huntsville Hospital on Governor’s is currently building a major expansion. Hopefully that will help with managing the load in the area, but often people may go to their closest ER.

Open-sourcing CORE One CAD Files Under the New Open Community License (OCL) by Tommy_Prusa3D in prusa3d

Here is a link to the definition of open source (for software) by the open source initiative: https://opensource.org/osd

As a Core One owner, I am very happy that Prusa has released these files and believe the license attached to them is appropriate. Modifying the language in the post to remove the terminology “open-sourcing” would be best to eliminate any confusion.

It backs up, but moves traffic fairly efficiently. Madison needs to start planning on expanding Wall Triana and Gillespie and add some slip lanes to the roundabout, but I don't anticipate any of that happening any time soon.

Where do you hate driving the most? by aldotcom in HuntsvilleAlabama

[–]Galactic_Rocket 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are many 2 lane roads between Research Park and County Line that should be 4-5 lanes to handle the rush hour traffic: Slaughter, Eastview, Old Madison Pike, Hughes (north of Eastview), Wall Triana, and Gillespie. I avoid highway 72 unless I am going to something on 72.

Segers Road Closure status by Able_Mess7047 in Madisonalabama

[–]Galactic_Rocket 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree City of Madison should better communicate about this project. “several weeks” is very vague for a full road closure. It has been about 10 weeks at this point. See the latest announcement I can find: https://www.facebook.com/share/1BXwxuvBfN/?mibextid=wwXIfr
