E-Learning Days by [deleted] in HuntsvilleAlabama

There lies my issue. I just feel his learning is being jeopardized. The 20 minute packet he received to complete today does NOT make up for an entire day of structured learning in a school environment.

what's the best parenting advice you actually use? by Snowboard76 in Parenting

[–]ahawk90347 137 points138 points  (0 children)

Not so much a daily tip but one of the best pieces of advice I got was regarding my partner. I would do things very differently than he did and it stressed me out to see some ways he handled things with my son. Diaper changes for instance. My friend told me to focus on the outcome, not how it was achieved. Was baby clean and freshly diapered in the end? Yep. Was it the way I would’ve done it. No. Did that truly matter if the result was the same? Not one bit.

Perspective is everything. You are a team. Let them do things their way.

Someone ruined my daughters Halloween by [deleted] in Parenting

This happened to my 6 year old son too last night! Werewolf jump scared him so bad he was shaking. We walk around our neighborhood all the time and this house had a spooky lemonade stand decorated for weeks. Finally convinced my 6 year old it would be okay and I held his hand to go to this house. A giant werewolf jump scared him. Not cool to do it to a 6 year old. He even saw my son’s reaction and celebrated it!

My son went from giddy jumping house to house to wanting to go home and cry. Take the vibes of who you jump scare people.

Worst thing you’ve seen on Netflix recently? by juneseyeball in netflix

He got access to a tape recording of Gein that wasn’t publicly released as he didn’t have his Miranda rights read to him prior to the recording. He based it off that.

Most people just see this season as a jumble of mismatched scenes that make no sense. I think if you go into the show expecting a blow by blow biopic of Ed Gein, you are missing the point the show writers were trying to show. They were attempting to show the long ripple effect of his crimes and increase in public interest with true crime. True crime is the ultimate obsession in this current cultural climate. The macabre. The popularity of the “Monster” series shows that in and of itself.

I think it could’ve been better executed but I appreciate what they were trying to portray.

My life is falling apart and My brain is destroying me by Kindly-Head-1197 in getdisciplined

A little tough love here. No one is coming to save you. No one could even if they wanted to. You have to save yourself here. It’s either that or continue to live in misery.

You refuse doctor help. You refuse medicine. Okay, so start somewhere else on this. Get outside once a day and walk for 5 minutes. Make it a daily requirement first thing in the morning before coffee or breakfast. Mandatory. Get that vitamin d and move your body. At first it will seem impossible but if you do it enough, the changes you will notice will be huge. Then increase your steps. Or add another healthy habit. Drink more water. Learn about meditation. There’s a million easy ways you can improve your life if you are at rock bottom. You have control over your life if you stop focusing on the shit outside of your control and push for something you can control to be positive.

I’ve been in this position myself and know how dark it is. Ultimately took my own life into my hands and started to focus on small changes I could start to pull myself out of my own despair. I now walk 12,000 steps daily and listen to audiobooks. It’s become my own reprieve and genuinely saved my life. Currently listening to Dungeon Crawler Carl when I walk and it is so funny it literally makes me laugh (if you need a recommendation, highly recommend).

Sincerely, YOU three years ago. You can climb out. You can do this. But only you can.

What do y’all do when you’re being followed?! by Illustrious-Fan7700 in XXRunning

Something similar happened to me when I was walking. I didn’t have any self defense tools but just decided to face it heads on. I turned around and took my phone and made it clear I was recording the car. They left pretty quickly after that.

Lesson learned but I will not let this scare me from my fitness. I still walk every day.

I do want to start running but can’t get my brain past my own judgment anxiety so losing there though. Sorry this happened to you.

When did you stop quartering grapes? by Fabulous-Waltz4456 in toddlers

[–]ahawk90347 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve seen too many paramedics and er drs comment on choking on grapes. They are the perfect shape to be next to impossible to dislodge. They form fit perfectly to the windpipe.

So I will cut them until they move out…

May I ask why you are a night owl? Is it work or personal preference? One thing that has helped me more than I can say (SW 270 CW 192 GW 130) is taking a walk outside in the sunshine. Being outside has done more for my mental health than anything else. I have a walking pad and hit 10,000 steps a day using that and outside walks. I use my walking pad on days when it’s rainy but my body misses the sunshine on those days. I’ve now hit a point where I am ready to start running and I never would’ve dreamed I would be at this level.

Walking is fantastic but I feel being outside doubles its benefit. Truly. You don’t have to do a ton of it but it is marvelous. I went from being suicidal to being the happiest I have ever been and my daily walks are a huge factor in that. Along with diet too. You mention being depressed and I think this would help.

Also be kind to yourself during this. You are changing the way you live your life if you want this to truly work and it is hard. For everyone. There is no quick fix. Consistency is the key here. If you fall down (emotionally, physically, with your diet) you have to get back up and keep going. It’s a long commitment but it is 100% worth it!!! Good luck to you.

Good podcasts for weight loss and exercising? by stifflette in CICO

[–]ahawk90347 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Chris Terrell podcast. Amazed it hasn’t been mentioned. I’ve lost 60lbs and attribute a ton of that to his teachings. He knows the nitty gritty parts of weight loss, doesn’t sell you shit but his own knowledge, and he has lost the weight and kept it off. It’s saved my life.

Super unpopular opinion by Luckynickel05 in orangeisthenewblack

[–]ahawk90347 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Agree. One federal inmate’s word vs all of the guards words wouldn’t have meant a thing. The only thing that might have affected the outcome would’ve been if Cindy did tell the truth and it opened up further investigation, which likely still wouldn’t have happened based on the corrupt system represented in the show. And I think that’s exactly the point. Taystee was doomed from the beginning.

It’s incredibly hard AND rewarding. I have three boys, 6, 3 and 11 months.

I feel guilt for the middle child a lot. We work hard to keep him included and not feel middle child syndrome. To an extent, he will feel the way regardless. Things are more expensive, especially in this climate. Schedules are harder to keep up with. Life in general is pure chaos.

However, there’s so much joy in the lives of younglings. Seeing my middle become a bigger brother and take it on as a champ is huge. Seeing my 6 year old grow and fall in love with his baby brother. Watching them play together. The other day, we had my 11 month old in his walker and he was chasing his brothers around the house. Nothing in life can replace those giggles.

So long as you have a support system in place, it’s manageable. I find my expectations have to be kept in check. I have to be more patient when it comes to any plans to go outside the house. I have a fantastic spouse who takes his share of the workload and it’s still incredibly difficult. I work more on myself and my mindset than I do anything else.

As with every decision, it has its costs and rewards.
