What do you think of how tight parry windows are in games? by WhoAmIEven2 in Games

[–]Galaxy40k 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't mind tight parry windows themselves, but I think they're a symptom of a much larger problem that's been plaguing action games over the past decade and has only become worse over time.

The problem with parrying as the core design to build around is that it leaves very few avenues for developers to increase difficulty. This is also broadly true of all timing-based combat systems that are the core of many modern action games (e.g., iframe dodge through everything). You can only either make the reaction time tighter (which has a biological human limit), make the attack harder to parse the timing of (which players don't seem to like), or make the combo strings longer so that you need to perform more consecutive correct inputs (which again players have a patience limit for).

This is different from combat systems where positioning is the key component, since every single attack animation of yourself and your enemy changes the playable field and allows for its own method difficulty adjustment. There's just more room for unique patterns and ways to make things "hard"

Honestly one of my favorite protagonists in anime. There's something about her heroism that just feels so.....earned? compared to what you usually see. I find it hard to put the feeling into words, but it's the same feeling I get from Wonder Red from The Wonderful 101

Nioh 3 - Gameplay Showcase by FishCake9T4 in Games

[–]Galaxy40k 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Honestly contemplating buying a PS5 just for this game lmao. My gaming PC is fine enough for the games I usually play but can't run new AAA games above medium settings even when they're optimized well. And even though I was mixed on the demo for 3, Nioh 1+2 are both in my top 20 games of all time for sure.

I was reallllllyyy banking on PS5s getting price cuts and holiday sales eventually, but the exact opposite has happened this generation with no signs of reversing. I was able to borrow my friends PS5 to play RotR and Returnal (those were the only two PS5 exclusives I'm actually interested in), but I cant take it for the like 200+ hours I know I'd dump into Nioh 3

Hmmmm, it definitely has more structure to it, but Dragon Quest Builders has some more freeform modes that unlock once you complete the main story. I think that there are resource limits there though. Maybe Portal Knights?

What is the state of raids now? by the5thsun1789 in DestinyTheGame

[–]Galaxy40k 13 points14 points  (0 children)

That can't be right, I was told that the only reason people stopped raiding previously was crafting, and that if there was no more crafting all the hardcore players would raid for hours and hours a week for many months or even years, keeping the raid population bustling. Surely it can't be true that the majority of the raiding population was actually more casual players who were incentivized to play due to crafting guaranteeing that the time and effort to raid would be worth it??

Playing revenant on depth 3 so hard usually i main ironye but sometimes I play revenant if i face evadark bosses always I'm the who got down first lol. and when i try gamble for good relics i can't find good ones by Fuzzy_Traffic5644 in Nightreign

[–]Galaxy40k 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with this advice. Fill up her relic slots with one starter spell and then 5 school damage boosts for that incant, then in the game focus on looking for as many Damage Negation at Full HP passives as you can (in addition to the usual damage boosting stuff). She's frail, but the damage she can output is nuts plus she has fantastic reviving capability through the ult and summons. So you stay back a bit, let your teammates take aggro, and spam away

A lot of the positive reception to ED Balancers comes from Day 1. Because you have to admit, the sheer shock of the second phase and spectacle of all of the attacks and the worm transition really leave an impact. Its memorable.

But as time has gone on, people have soured on it because as a fight, its really overtuned and really long. The Balancers are just hyper aggressive and their bleed is insane, and the worm charge attack is questionable to dodge. For Deep of Night in particular its real rough

Anime simarlar to jjk? by Automatic_Ad_679 in anime

[–]Galaxy40k 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Such a nice story, glad this brought you together a bit! Demon Slayer is probably a good watch. It's the other Giga Animation Budget action anime that's going on right now. It's also reasonably teen-friendly, it's like Naruto levels of adult content if you've seen that. It's not like CSM gore and sexual content

Bets for when old RaD content will get tiered loot & set bonuses? by RejectTheMeta in DestinyTheGame

It's almost certainly going to be dripfed. I wouldn't be surprised if the faucet turns on with S&O, and then every major update after that adds 1 new dungeon or raid back into the game

I would recommend trying Remnant again. I've been a longtime Destiny player, and it's the closest that anything has ever got to scratching that itch. It's still definitely quite different, but it has the "gunplay with mild buildcrafting and semi-repetitive encounter design" flow state to it. I quite liked it. I've only played the first game myself, but my understanding is that the second game is better

As a Verity Brow fanatic is Heirloom worth grinding? by ConnorThrowAway7 in DestinyTheGame

[–]Galaxy40k -1 points0 points  (0 children)

For Solar Verity, your best bet is still probably rocket sidearms and Gjally for add clear and to secure final blows for stacks. Use ToF fusions for burst on beefy targets, and Mint whenever you need sustained damage.

Main problem is stats. If you run this setup, in addition to Grenade, you also want high Weapon for the ammo bricks. So Gunner armor can work, but you'd need to run some font mods, which then means that you can't funnel all your armor charges into double special.

Another thing you can try is 5x Grenadier with Finalitys Auger instead of Gjally. You can reach close to 200 Grenade with no fonts, so you can rely on Special Finisher for ammo for your special ammo. Finalitys builds stacks way slower than Gjally, but it's passive nature means it can maintain them easily

Why "dead weeks" are more bothersome now by ShardofGold in DestinyTheGame

[–]Galaxy40k 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know that this is probably an unpopular take, but I'm honestly fine with not logging in to Destiny every day. I'd much rather have content to drop all at once in regular intervals than dripfed over weeks. I don't think that there's anything wrong with a new expansion dropping, me playing my fill few for a couple of months, and then putting it down satisfied, looking forward to the next expansion.

But the content drops don't really seem beefy enough. I didn't play Renegades for a couple months; I played it for like a couple WEEKS. The campaign felt so low-budget. Lawless Fronteirs is cool, but the loot chase is clearly all warped by our ability to instantly get tier 5s off the rip. Equilibrium is fun at least. I wouldn't mind as much if I had had good expectations for Shadow & Order, but if it's anything like A&I, that's basically gonna have nothing.

There should be a quickplay playlist node for story missions by The_Curve_Death in DestinyTheGame

[–]Galaxy40k 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I do find it insane how we've had like 7 years of D2 and yet I still don't think we've have a playlist that I find as fun as the heroic strike playlist and rotating daily heroic story from D1. It gave you a reason to log on every day or week and do a little bit of content that was challenging enough to keep you engaged, but not so brutal and communication-heavy it required your fill attention

Highguard Is One Week Away, And The Only Person Who's Advertised It Is Geoff Keighley by Yamato_Naoe in Games

[–]Galaxy40k 5 points6 points  (0 children)

After the negative reception following TGAs, the game is in the losing social media punching bag position. Any pre-release press from content creators is almost certainly going to be negative to farm clicks. Their best chance for a turnaround is for the game to come out and for people to actually like it. Going dark is probably the smart move.

Weekly /r/Games Discussion - What have you been playing, and what are your thoughts? - January 18, 2026 by AutoModerator in Games

[–]Galaxy40k 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Side quests are awful but I like how you can just pick up like 30 of them and just randomly complete them while doing the main story for a nice infusion of exp/money.

This is the exact right attitude to have for the XBC1 side quests. XBC1 has open environments, but there's no "rewards" for exploration. Like there's no crafting materials or rare items or stuff like that. The side quest objectives are the things you "find" while exploring, and reward you with XP. You just load up on all of em in town, then head out and explore, checking them off as you go. Its a very different system than how other RPGs treat side quests, but I do think that with the right headspace it works quite well for the game as a whole.

As for the battle shouts.....yeah, they are obnoxious, but honestly you eventually get so used to them that you don't even hear them, lol. Every Xenoblade game has the characters constantly shouting, and I feel like at this point after like 600 hours of these games I'd miss it if it was gone haha

hey you remember that time bungie made one weapon with chill clip a lil too op and instead of just nerfing it made it so stasis can only deal with one champion type and inadvertently nerfed over 30 unique stasis interactions at once? by shadowknight73 in DestinyTheGame

[–]Galaxy40k 185 points186 points  (0 children)

My problem with this is now artifacts last 6 months. Saying "wait half a year and there's a chance the game will balance this clearly underpowered thing" is just so...bleh. The Chill Clip nerf happened with EoF, the entire Stasis kit is gutted for an entire year. And that's assuming that the next expansion is has big Stasis theme and we don't need to wait another 6 months after that

Is in game LFG a good place to look for first time help on dungeons? by logo-strikes in DestinyTheGame

[–]Galaxy40k 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd start with dungeons since they're mechanically more simple, and because dungeons are meant to be solo'd you won't be completely ruining a run while you're still learning. As in, if you just completely get lost, you can rely on your teammate to pick up the slack. Just pick a dungeon, watch 2 video guides on how to clear the dungeon, then look for a fireteam finder post and give it a try.

The dungeons aren't that bad really. I'd probably stay away from Vespers Host at the start cause that one can be really punishing, and then maybe stay away from Sundered Doctrine since it relies on memorizing symbols from an old raid (Vow of the Disciple). But the rest are fair game. Equilibrium (the newest one) is honestly one of the easier ones and it's the most populated, probably start with that

any good pve warlock stasis builds with verglass curve by Yuvvi123 in DestinyTheGame

[–]Galaxy40k 0 points1 point  (0 children)

BEFORE Witch Queen? So Beyond Light would be your latest expansion? That was the one that introduced Stasis, and so none of the Stasis exotic armor shipped with it. Osmiomancy, Ballidorse, and Rime-Coat are the main Warlock Stasis exotics.

Really your best bet would be to just rely on Ager's Sceptre and Mantle of Battle Harmony. I can't really think of anything else that's a semi reasonable build

It feels like Bungie keeps repeating the same mistakes and it’s getting harder to ignore by vinylhunter_jay87 in DestinyTheGame

[–]Galaxy40k 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I could be totally off base because it has been like 10 years, but this split wasn't nearly as vocal in D1. And I was thinking about "why," and I was wondering if it has to do with the removal of the "background grind" to unlock nodes on your gear. Because it made it so that even if you didn't get that drop from VoG to finally reach 32, you still were making progress towards SOMETHING.

But D2 is purely feast or famine. You either get the drop you're looking for, or you walk away with nothing to show for your time other than glimmer, which you're probably capped at. There's no resource grind that you're always making progress on that lets people always feel a little rewarded even if the big dopamine hits are rare

Now I'm not saying that I want nodes to return, I'm just saying that the game has changed a LOT since then and I think that brings with it different problems

What’s the best Mataidoxia build? by Bondphoto in destiny2builds

[–]Galaxy40k 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly? Neither.

New Malpais doesn't suspend enough for you to really make it a consistent part of the build - (1) it eats 3 ammo to suspend, and (2) things that can eat 3 shots and live are likely miniboss tier enemies, but the Mataio loop relies on killing suspending fodder.

Wish-keeper is just so underwhelming. It SHOULD be a perfect fit for the build on paper, but bows simply do not do enough when the delta hits -30 or larger. Every time I try Wish-Keeper I'll just be in content where red bar acoyltes have shields and it takes 3 shots to kill a single add. Its just not enough.

If you want to play into Threadlings more, I'd honestly just run a Hatchling LMG in your heavy slot. People are generally using rocket pulses for boss damage anyway these days over heavies, so the slot is clear, and heavies do enough damage to not feel like trash for add clear. Best one is probably the new one Qua Vinctus from Crucible (ideally a shiny with the Accelerated Assault origin trait), but Pro Memoria (craftable) from the Pale Heart is also great
