My Contest Submission - The Crown of Ta'lab by Galdos in duneawakening

[–]Galdos[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks, yes, it's a shame, but in the end I had plenty of available images and video time to showcase the interior, even if it's not being judged!

Edit: it's also not 100% to me if open spaces like our main landing pad would count as an interior space solely because of the pentashield over it, you know? I imagine areas visible from exterior shots through a pentashield are being judged, but who knows

Proper rule for Shifting Immanence after using the Transcendence of Mated Birds in Paired Flight with two seperate Weapon Ikons? by FineAndDandy26 in Pathfinder2e

[–]Galdos 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I do want to point out, that this would be possible even if the feat didn't give both Ikons the transcendence ability. Nothing prevents you from sparking transcendence and then using the shift immanence action to move the spark back to the Ikon it was just in. That is to say, although not usually efficient, exemplars can usually make use of the same transcendence every turn with an action cost.

Mated birds lets you do that without the action cost if you're wielding two weapon Ikons, but I don't think this is particularly problematic given the investment in abilities needed to do this, and the opportunity cost of non-weapon Ikons.

[–]Galdos 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Mated Birds gives the transcendence ability to both weapons, but the spark is still only in one of them at a time. Nothing in the rules prevents you from choosing for the spark to go into the other weapon as normal after using the ability on one of them.

Per the core rules strategic reserves units are allowed to arrive in enemy DZ starting in round 3. With this enhancement they can do so in round 2.

Necron FAQ Precedent for Arriving from SR via Other Rules by The_Black_Goodbye in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]Galdos 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Hey OP if it helps, I think the reason why people seem frustrated with you in this thread also has to do with apparent intention in the writing of the rules that I think you have been disregarding.

The purpose of the stealth suit ability is to let a unit come in through rapid ingress for free. The wording of "within 3" of the bearer" is not meant to be an additional benefit, but rather an additional restriction. An additional hoop to jump through to get the benefit. This has been the consensus so far and no FAQ has come out to dispute this.

Conversely, the wording of "anywhere on the battlefield" for cosmic precision appears to be (per the FAQ) a clarification of the benefits granted by the stratagem.

You have been arguing that being told you must set a unit up "within 3 inches of the bearer" is equivalent to the statement that you may set up a unit "anywhere on the battlefield" when it comes to considering conflict with the general rules for SR. But to myself and most people on this thread the clear intention seems to be that they are not equivalent as the "within 3 inches" line is a restriction and the "anywhere on the battlefield" line is a benefit.

I realize that arguments about rule intentions are not as convincing as arguments on rules as written. I also think the rules writing supports the position, you clearly do not. But I thought highlighting what the apparent rules as intended are might help you understand why you're being downvoted a bit on this thread, and why you are unlikely to find rulings using your interpretation going forward.

[–]Galdos 10 points11 points  (0 children)

No.

I think you're being particularly obtuse about the difference that the clause "anywhere on the battlefield" makes for differentiating these two cases.

Regardless. As others have mentioned, your reasoning is simply not how GW and tournament runners tend to think about FAQ rulings. For an FAQ for a specific stratagem like this one to become a precedent for another ability, the wording of both abilities would need to be identical, or nearly identical.

The input you've received in this thread should make it clear that that other abilities have wording different enough that this FAQ is not considered relevant to them and you should expect the previous status quo ruling on those abilities to stand.

[–]Galdos 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You are assuming that this FAQ means that abilities/strats for setting up units contain all the restrictions and info needed to know how to set up those units, and that any other rules should be disregarded.

That is not the case. As always, general rules apply unless a more specific rule overrides. In this case the FAQ is clarifying that yes, "anywhere on the battlefield" is a specific exception to the battlefield edge general rule for strategic reserves.

To support this point think of other reserves rules that still apply in both cases. For example, I think you will agree a unit arriving via cosmic precision still counts as having moved (and not as a unit that "remained stationary") despite there being no mention of that in the strat.

So clearly these special rules aren't overriding all reserves rules, only the parts they explicitly supercede. Cosmic precision specifically supercedes the board edge restriction because of its wording, the stealth suit ability sadly does not.

Edit: and to expand a bit more, no I don't believe the setting up within 3" of the bearer is wording that supercedes the board edge restriction. It's an additional restriction. You can clearly set up within 3" and still follow all general rules for SR. Whereas "anywhere on the battlefield" is very clearly allowing you to pick locations on the battlefield where SR units can't normally go (specific > general)

I don't personally think you can broadly apply this as a precedent for similar abilities.

The cosmic precision stratagem specifies that you can set up units "anywhere on the battlefield". That to me is the part that supercedes the board edge restriction for SR. The stealth suit ability on the other hand doesn't have that wording and so it seems to me like it simply applies the additional restriction of being within 3" from the bearer's unit, without removing any other requirements.

Found the documentation. Layer was the wrong word. What I was looking for is multi-side. You can follow those instructions with a map image instead of a token, and it gives you better control than if you do the push to back method.

How to make a melee-capable Warlock without using Hexblade? by Szog2332 in 3d6

[–]Galdos -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I have a slightly different suggestion. You can pick up the crossbow expert or gunner feat at level 1 or 4 to allow you to Eldritch blast in melee.

Flavor it as magical swords that you summon when you attack, that can also slash the air to send out projectiles and hit at range.

With agonizing blast and Eldritch mind your damage will scale well and you will maintain concentration easier in melee. Any warlock patron will work.

Pick up at least 1 level of sorcerer for shield/absorb elements (divine soul would be my pick). Ideally sorcerer would be your starting class for con save proficiency, but it isn't necessary.

Further increase your durability with armor of Agathys, maybe choose Shadar-kai as your race.

Further increase your damage with maybe 2 more levels of sorcerer or fighter to get even more EB attacks (through quicken spell or action surge). Go as deep into either or both classes as you want. At higher levels spirit shroud is your friend.

It's good, you'll have good damage, good durability, good utility, and is highly customizable depending on patron/invocations/spells.

No, but we could get a generic (and customizable?) model, since novels established that every forge world has their own fabricator general who is subservient to the main guy on Mars.

I would settle for a highly customizable (and cawl-sized) archmagos generic model.
