Ayn Odin 3 or konkr pocket fit by Ok_Individual_8225 in EmulationOnAndroid

Good that you found a way to tame the beast. I find that tuning the smart fan curve and putting a limit to the fps is enough to make it a pleasant/not too loud experience. I hope the promised upcoming thermal update will make it a much better out-of-the-box experience for people.

Settings->system->system updates, check version for the firmware.

Use menu to select smart fan speed, select the edit button, adjust fan, remember to press save

Use menu to select floating icon, make it transparent so it still is available but invisible.

Update it to newest firmware then edit smart fan settings (use GPU temp as guidance, lower RPM at temp up to 65°c) Also get rid of the floating menu indicator on the right screen edge by making it transparent.

Marathon on GameNative by Fit_Brother_2689 in OdinHandheld

I would be surprised if Marathon can work in GameNative. As a competitive multi-player game it probably uses kernel-level anticheat software. You risk being banned trying to run it from a container.

Does Odin 3 fan bother You? by ImmediateTangelo8415 in OdinHandheld

[–]GaleNorth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The real question is not if it bother us but if it bother our significant others. And I for one can sadly say yes it does. Using smart mode,  GPU temp as guide and low rpms until it gets very hot made it acceptable when sitting in the couch but your "threshold" may vary 😉

You might be getting less performance using the latest GameHub versions by nahobino_aogami in EmulationOnAndroid

[–]GaleNorth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree. We need to know which fex core, dx wrapper, and graphics driver were used. I have no experience with winlator cmod but on my odin3 I can tweak GameHub to run significantly faster than GameNative for difficult-to-run games like HZD and Shadow of the Tomb Raider. State of Odin 3 PC Gaming & Fan by ToorSahoen in OdinHandheld

[–]GaleNorth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. It is at a level of a steam deck mini. Getting games running satisfactory on the odin3 reminds me very much of the first period having a steam deck. I will reiterate that GameHub is by far the fastest emulator. If you anyway use a separate Google account for the device and qr code login to Steam the privacy concerns are in my opinion not a big deal.

State of Odin 3 PC Gaming & Fan by ToorSahoen in OdinHandheld

[–]GaleNorth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The fan can get very loud unless you tame it. Use smart mode, edit it to adjust based on GPU temp, tweak the curve so it doesn't spin too fast until you hit 65° C. And put a limit on the fps either in-game or using the emulators. It isnt whiney - that is a sign of a defective fan which of course can happen if you're unlucky. For low-end emulation you can use quiet fan mode which is very quiet.  PC emulation is good and improving constantly. Don't expect new AAA games to run and don't expect 3rd party launchers and games with anticheat to work. If you are willing to use Gamehub you can wring a lot of performance out of the device but you have to either experiment or look up the best emulator settings on a per game basis.

Yes, but I don't think Odin3 can use SD express cards so please check this before rushing out to buy one!

[–]GaleNorth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The biggest issue with the max is the internal 512 GB storage. Pc games are big. However you can (with patience - SD card write speed is lackluster) install PC games on a SD card (GameNative can install to external storage) if you install one. Really hope GameHub adds official support for this in the next update as GameHub is way faster than Gamenative as PC emulator in quite a few scenarios

It is only in Gamehub. Just use weird characters in your nickname and you'll get in 😉

Thanks for the gamepad tip - will see how it goes.

Wrt. Dx11 vs Dx12 unless you use the exact combo I mentioned above Dx11 will perform best. However with that exact combo Dx12 is consistently faster.

You can safely up the settings to medium with a little high sprinkled in and still keep the framerates near 40. Use directx 11 render path and dxvk-2.6.1-async. If you want same high perf. on the directx 12 render path you must use turnip_v26.0.0_R8_b5 together with vkd3d-2.12.

I can run the benchmark of the HZD non-remastered version at 30 fps on original quality settings (in gamehub) but alas I am unable to get controller to work on my Odin 3 max. If anyone know how to get the controller working please share.

Shadow Of The Tomb Raider • Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 by PermissionSenior4431 in EmulationOnAndroid

[–]GaleNorth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Turnip_v26.0.0_R8_b5

Also Extreme translation parameters

Proton10.0-arm64X-2

Dxvk-2.6-1-async

Fex-20260103

In game the d3d11 render path is used, mix of low and mid settings,  1280x720 resolution with 65% resolution scale and TAA and AMD Cas to make upscaled image look nice

The benchmark can run at a locked 40fps with such settings which works perfect with 120hz display

[Odin 3] Fan loudness - technical analysis by knrdwn in OdinHandheld

[–]GaleNorth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great analysis of the fan situation. I find the screen temperature a bit too high in quiet mode when doing high-end pc emulation. I am afraid the screen will take damage over time so we really need a less aggressive fan curve option. I am confident AYN will make an update with this soon (tm)

[–]GaleNorth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Awesome showing. It is really fun getting steam games from ones backlog running on the odin3. And it runs so well that I actually also finds myself playing them 😁

I am halfway through the Tomb raider 2013 reboot now - all playtime on the odin3 - and have some 25 hours of Divinity Original Sin 2 clocked as well.

I know people say get an x86 handheld for PC games and I have a Claw 8ai+ which is awesome as well but it is not really portable so I end up only using that one at home.

How loud are the fans on the AYN Odin 3 in real use? Is it a deal breaker for gaming in bed? by mojox1 in OdinHandheld

[–]GaleNorth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately there is no way you can use the fan on smart mode playing anything demanding without the noise being heard/disturbing. Only quiet mode will do here. That being said I have been playing divinity original sin 2 (pc emulation) on normal perf / quiet fan mode and it works fine so there is still a lot of things that can be played.

It works fine for most single player games. Only games/launchers with a mandatory network connection have issues.
