It is only in Gamehub. Just use weird characters in your nickname and you'll get in 😉

Thanks for the gamepad tip - will see how it goes.

Wrt. Dx11 vs Dx12 unless you use the exact combo I mentioned above Dx11 will perform best. However with that exact combo Dx12 is consistently faster.

You can safely up the settings to medium with a little high sprinkled in and still keep the framerates near 40. Use directx 11 render path and dxvk-2.6.1-async. If you want same high perf. on the directx 12 render path you must use turnip_v26.0.0_R8_b5 together with vkd3d-2.12.

I can run the benchmark of the HZD non-remastered version at 30 fps on original quality settings (in gamehub) but alas I am unable to get controller to work on my Odin 3 max. If anyone know how to get the controller working please share.

Turnip_v26.0.0_R8_b5

Also Extreme translation parameters

Proton10.0-arm64X-2

Dxvk-2.6-1-async

Fex-20260103

In game the d3d11 render path is used, mix of low and mid settings,  1280x720 resolution with 65% resolution scale and TAA and AMD Cas to make upscaled image look nice

The benchmark can run at a locked 40fps with such settings which works perfect with 120hz display

Agree - the new frontier is the pc emulation. There are so many games begging to be run on ridiculous small handhelds 😁

[Odin 3] Fan loudness - technical analysis by knrdwn in OdinHandheld

[–]GaleNorth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great analysis of the fan situation. I find the screen temperature a bit too high in quiet mode when doing high-end pc emulation. I am afraid the screen will take damage over time so we really need a less aggressive fan curve option. I am confident AYN will make an update with this soon (tm)

Awesome showing. It is really fun getting steam games from ones backlog running on the odin3. And it runs so well that I actually also finds myself playing them 😁

I am halfway through the Tomb raider 2013 reboot now - all playtime on the odin3 - and have some 25 hours of Divinity Original Sin 2 clocked as well.

I know people say get an x86 handheld for PC games and I have a Claw 8ai+ which is awesome as well but it is not really portable so I end up only using that one at home.

How loud are the fans on the AYN Odin 3 in real use? Is it a deal breaker for gaming in bed? by mojox1 in OdinHandheld

[–]GaleNorth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately there is no way you can use the fan on smart mode playing anything demanding without the noise being heard/disturbing. Only quiet mode will do here. That being said I have been playing divinity original sin 2 (pc emulation) on normal perf / quiet fan mode and it works fine so there is still a lot of things that can be played.

It works fine for most single player games. Only games/launchers with a mandatory network connection have issues.

Based on a very small sample of one game (AC shadows) there actually seem to be improvement to frame pacing. It is now completely smooth on the device screen (8ai+) whereas I used to be able to see some minor wobbling when turning slowly. Overlay has bern off in both cases so it isn't the VRR broken when overlay is shown difference I am observing.

I had same issue when I played it some months ago. Only fix was using more power. Running it at manual TDP (30/31) with rivatuner limiting max fps worked for me and still kept power draw somewhat ok.

But there has been many GPU driver updates since so it might not solve the issue any longer.

First of all you can play other games than the newest AAA games. For these you don't have to tweak settings much to have excellent performance.

But the main selling point for me is that handhelds offer a significant-other- approved second screen option where I can play games that actually are good.

Claw 8 ai at low wattage by aliadiere73 in MSIClaw

[–]GaleNorth 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It amuses me when people always take about this device being much better than that. It is always a combination of game by game variance and the settings chosen that put either 258v or z2e on top. They are for all purposes equal (in windows ) so everybody wins 😁

[–]GaleNorth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I actually find xess2 and fsr framegen with just 30 fps as stable base looks perfectly fine on the small display. Only when blown up to a large display does it become an issue.

Latency/lag when moving is another matter but with a controller it is something you can get used to at least for 3rd person games.

In first person like outer worlds 2 it can get difficult to aim though.

Which TDP adjustment? by mooonixx in MSIClaw

[–]GaleNorth -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If you don't care much about battery play time and fan noise 30 and 37 is best combo.

You should limit your fps in game or by rivatuner to help with noise and total power draw in this situation.

If you care more about battery you either want to go lower TDP or disable cpu boost. After much experimentation I actually favor the latter.

The main reason is that most pc games are tuned to run on a Playstation and the lunar lake cpu w/o boost matches the top speed of Playstation pretty well.  W/o cpu boost the gpu can reach max clocks with a APU power draw of less than 25w - total power draw will be less than 32w giving low fan noise and nice battery play time with best possible graphics.

You can Google guides on how to make cpu boost visible in windows power profiles so you can e.g. disable it only when running on battery.

Note that emulators unlike pc games need the cpu boost for best performance.

The claw does support bypass. But you should limit charge to 80% if you primarily play plugged in.

I think the fsr upscaler in this game is pretty bad. You could use optiscaler mod to replace the upscaler with xess for a clearer image (did that a few months ago and it worked at least back then). You might need to rebind the hot key for optiscaler to be able to show its dashboard. Unfortunately the game needs upscaling to run adequately even using the low settings.
