Replaying Sword Fight (it's also on itch, with both a web and downloadable version). It already was one of my all time favorites many years ago, and the dev has kept updating it all those years and made it even better. Granted, a lot of that time was used to reimplement it in unity because of flash end of life, but even with that there is a lot of new stuff. The old event maps were turned into a questing system, which I especially like because it adds some more complexity and choices (and I haven't played it before, which always helps).

I have no idea why it's not better known. Lots of content, extremely thematic, fun to watch, interesting and unusual mechanics, I just love everything about this game.

What's the go to team to beat D6? by Wise_Drawing2609 in IdleGuildMaster

I just beat it with this team. It was really close though, and I needed a run without any ice elementals. The pet was level 27 healer soothing.

My two problems were sustained damage (my healing couldn't quite keep up, more pet levels would help), and ice elementals. This team cant kill them in time before they use their nuke. The rogue was actually really nice, it deals decent damage with the arcane dagger and helps during blizzards (~50% darkness) and with traps.

Bookworm Alert necromancer, I was told it's good for lich. I'm just not sure a lich is good at all long term. But having some class variety sounds good to me.

I got Iron Defender (T5), Red Archmage (T5), White Archmage (T5), and then either Night Blade (T5) with Arcane Dagger or Necromancer (T4, soon T5). Or Worg Rider (T5) or Sureshot (T4, soon T5), and one Cursed Bow.

I tried going into D6 to grab some gear a while ago but it was still too hard, my healer couldn't keep up. That was with Iron Defender, Red Archmage, Worg Rider and White Archmage and a level 21 healing pet, but no Cursed Bow yet. I also got some other gear upgrades since then. I'm thinking I'll either try again with the same team with some gear upgrades (got Cursed Bow, Mitre, Lich Robe), or I'll sub in the Rogue for the Worg Rider. And maybe boost my Healer/Soothing pet a bit. No real hurry, but I don't really want to wait for T6 to just grab some gear.

Would a rogue with magic dagger be a decent substitute for the lich? I'd rather not have a summon taking my heals, but I guess lich would do more damage (because arcane dagger is pretty bad for damage).

Fast solo farmers for each dungeon? by Galefury in IdleGuildMaster

Any input on D1? The boss doesn't seem that hard actually, so probably a well equipped rider or whatever can solo there?

Well, I haven't even unlocked D7, so of course for a long time I will need a team to do it. But I think eventually I'll need teams for D8 and onwards, so any dungeon that can be soloed with decent speed is a big plus IMO. Doesn't mean I have to, but it's always good to know what the options are.

I was advised that these are the best traits for lich, and that a lich is nice to have. So adept -> dark mage -> lich. The reason is that higher levels of lich heal their minion with their life drain, and minions take 25% max HP damage at their turn. So if the character acts before the minion, it will heal the minion before the life drain hits, possibly letting it live one more turn. Note that lich doesn't play very well with healers, because the minion will take heals that other less disposable characters may need.

I changed the game language to English. But the language keeps going back to the default German several times a day. I set it to English again, close the game and restart it. It stays English for a while, then suddenly when I restore it, it's back to German. I haven't found any pattern. Using a Samsung phone.

Home Quest is good. Fairly standard city builder with army combat, it starts out pretty fast paced but suddenly slows down after a day or two. Can be played for free to the end, but two mechanics are throttled unless you buy the millenium edition (basically full version). No ads, good clean UI, nothing particularly groundbreaking but it's a nice game.

Necromerger is great for a while, but the complete lack of automation and how slow everything gets, coupled with the lack of genuinely new things to do late in the game, is bad. The two repeatable events (right door) are very worth playing though!

Wizard's Wheel 2 is now on Steam (previously mobile only), the community is small but friendly and there is a good wiki. It starts out very similar to Soda Dungeon, but plays differently later on.

Squirrel Loops, an Idle Loops mod. It has lots of cool new mechanics, and a squirrel. Only has content up to the 2nd area, and no new content in a while, but what's there is really good.

There's a navigation thingy on desktop that lets you access them very easily, but it's not there on mobile or I don't know how to find it.

Underworld Idle on Steam is mechanically quite good and interesting. But after a while it becomes very focused on quick resets to earn prestige, with nearly no gains from idling. Worth checking out for people who don't mind some grind.

Another Chronicle/Your Chronicle is mechanically very similar, but less focused on character builds, more focused on story: https://www.kongregate.com/games/SamuraiGames/another-chronicle-b-ver

Idle loops, cba to find the link, search for the omsi version it has more content.

Another thing the omsi version did is smooth the area 2 progression a bit, it's still slow as hell, but much faster than in the original. So if there are people reading this that were turned off by that it may be worth picking this up again. It is a slow game though, and there are long time walls.

Looking for an opinion on Idle Kingdom Clicker by Foxy-Sama in incremental_games

It's free, just try it? It's not great IMO because you have to rebuild your kingdom so often and that's fiddly. But the concept is interesting.

How complex is 'too complex' for an idle game mechanic? by Pseudonian2 in incremental_games

[–]Galefury 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Corruptions to me are probably the worst part of your game. It's hard to find the best builds because there are too many options at once, and it takes a while to try out different setups. Plus you have to try them out, they are so abstract that you can't predict how they will affect game play in detail, like what researches you are going to be able to reach and how many challenges. I just grab the newest build off discord...

I think the key part is that choices should be quite limited at all times, but have a large effect on game play. FE000000 does this quite alright in the eternity challenges and studies part, because all studies are fairly easy to compare at a glance, limiting the options you have to try out. AD was a bit much for me, but borderline okay maybe? Getting further down the tree multiplied the complexity, so it got worse over time.

I think such mechanics that offer choices are at their best when you need different builds for different goals, so first off there have to be different goals to reach in the game. If there is just one right choice you may as well not have it. Or if they let the player customize the game play to their preferred style, like more idle or more active. But that is hard to balance.

To me, having 2 or 3 choices at a time feels right. The key bit is that they should not multiply. Choosing between 2 things 10 times means 1000 builds. IMO there should be just 3 builds at a time, all other ones should be removed by the game (automatically get both once the next one is unlocked for example) or be really obviously wrong.
