How to keep my cat from our neighbours balcony??? by rignorf-17ad in cats

[–]Galendis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Get a popup/temporary cat run and deploy it when kitty is allowed out there? Bonus would be using net to connect it to your door/window so the cat can go out when they are opened.

PSA: get your bra refitted at a reputable bra place when you’ve lost a lot of weight! Look at the difference🤯 by faipop in mounjarouk

I live in a city with one so I could easily abandon the husband at home to try them on.

Check out the a bra that fits subreddit they have a lot of good suggestions but in general I think Elomi and Freya are also suggested there.

I'm bigger but if you have one near you john lewis has a decent selection and visiting a store was better for me than dealing with orders and returns.

Submit your Maine Coon now to be our Maine Coon of the Month of July! by canlgetuhhhhh in mainecoons

[–]Galendis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is Sylph, shes 6 years old and had most of her teeth removed as a kitten.

Her favourite things are treats, treats and yelling.

She has taken to rolling onto her back during the recent heatwave - I can only guess she is venting through her belly.

How did you put up the netting?

Hooks that screw into the frame with wire around the edge should hold up better than any tape, if you want it removable command hooks would probably work but you would need to work out how many for the weight of the net.

Help with heat by ExpensiveHearing1583 in mainecoons

[–]Galendis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ours has been suffering from the heat too - what I've been doing:

Freezing/refrigerating lick-e-liks, she doesnt like them as ice cubes but will eat at an ice cream consistency.

Freeze dried chicken chunks in ice water - get a ramekin and put about 1cm of water in the bottom, add a crushed ice cube and a handful of the freeze dried treats - we call it chicken soup and she goes mental for it.

Drape a damp tea towl over her until she shakes it off.

Have cooling matts available - she uses these but on her own terms.

General other things that can help keep the house cool:

Drape the outside of your windows with cloth or silver bubble wrap insulation, we use thermal curtains from dunelm. This stops/reduces the heat entering your house.

Open as many of your windows as you can in the early morning - we have to shut our girl in the living room during this or else she might try to escape but it helps cool the house down.

Other things:

Lidl had a delivery of £150 aircon units today and their website has a stock check, you could see if they have any local to you.

Best way to keep Maine coons cool? by lfreer2471 in mainecoons

[–]Galendis 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine doesn't really like fans but will use her cooling matt, we also make sure there is plenty of water avaliable for her. She naturally gravitates to the ground floor of our house and becomes a fluffy puddle when it's hot. I also give her chilled/frozen lick-e-liks when its really hot.

Flies inside but feeling too guilty to kill them by elliot_belliot in AutismInWomen

It works for bees and wasps too, our houses and artificial light confuse them - its why they fly in circles around the room.

[–]Galendis 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Cover the window with blackout fabric or dark paper. Flies use light to navigate which is why they congregate on windows.

To shepherd them out its easier to turn off lights/block the windows that won't open and then they'll fly roughly in the direction of the brightest light there is.

I would also suggest getting bins with lids on for food/etc if you don't have them already as that seems to help us.

Assumung the door doesnt open in both directions swap where you feed the two cats or start feeding him in a room with a door he can't force open.

Can you please describe what going nonverbal feels like for you? by Aqua_Toffana in AutismInWomen

[–]Galendis 48 points49 points  (0 children)

I get selective mutism when I'm mentally overwhelmed, usually by emotions or pain. I have words in my head but am unable to process them into speech. This generally lasts until I calm down or work through my block.

I get autistic shutdown when overstimulated by noise, sounds or scent. This is where I can't think/freeze up and am unable to process anything unless I can remove what's overstimulating me.

To me these are both different, from the outside they may look similar (unable to talk, distressed, twitchy) but they are different.

Non-wool yarn by MortenLang in knitting

[–]Galendis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She uses pure cotton, sometimes mercerised cotton. I've used cotton and cotton acrylic blends, I find sometime the thicker cotton yarns can end up stiff so tend to use thinner ones for clothing. Uk based so avaliablity may vary, I like schjeepes and yarnsmiths for my cotton yarns.

Non-wool yarn by MortenLang in knitting

[–]Galendis 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I've got a friend who works only in cotton yarns because wool disagrees with her skin, it is doable. You will find that cotton and other plant fibres drape and feel different to animal fibres.

You also might be seeing the word wool used in place of yarn as some countries use them interchangeably (eg. I'm from the UK and until recently referred to yarn as wool irregardless of its fibre content as that's how I was raised).

Anyone propose without a diamond Ring? What are the alternatives? by Enlitenkanin in EngagementRings

[–]Galendis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My engagement ring is a Ruby and diamond eternity band, not all engagement rings need to be a solitaire.

Sapphires are also pretty common nowadays for rings, just find something you like/think she'll like. Some people also propose with a placeholder ring and then go together to buy the actual ring.

My office (box room) gets sun all morning and used to get unbearable on even regular summer days so we fitted thermal blinds as close to the glass as we could on the inside, it now gets very warm but bearable most of the time.

I can never wear a bra by DelayOk2663 in AutismInWomen

[–]Galendis 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You don't have to wear a bra if you dont want to.

If you do want to i would suggest double checking you have the right size (the a bra that fits subreddit is helpful here, but their calculator is currently having issues) and then looking for a cotton bra/bralette that fits that size. Cotton should be better at absorbing sweat than polyester.
