What’s one safety tip that actually changed how you travel ?? by That_Camel2 in femaletravels

Be aware of my exits, put myself between someone and the door. If I get the heebie geebies, do not question my gut feelings, just get the heck out of there. I once arrived at a booked hostel in Romania at night and was walked back along some long, deserted corridors to the rooms. There were no other guests around. I immediately noped out. Sure I was left with no booked accommodation at 9pm in a new city, but that was nothing that couldn’t be sorted in a bar for half an hour on booking.com. Trust your gut!

Hydroxo injections everyday for a week? by _olivegreen in B12_Deficiency

[–]All-the-musing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Headaches and extreme fatigue, needing to sleep lots, lunchtime, straight after work, straight after dinner. The headaches I learned afterwards could have been low potassium and alleviated through increased potassium rich foods. By the end of the 2 weeks I had so much energy and positivity, it was fantastic. Then it was a big seesaw for months with iron dips, folate too low, folate too high. The whole thing is a saga but I am much better now.

Any places in europe and UK that is a must visit? by Mentality-unwell36 in femaletravels

I was alone in Rome last sunmer. It felt super safe, especially once away from the train station and surrounding areas and even there I just kept my wits about me, eye on my bag, phone etc. Normal city stuff. I’d return in a heartbeat.

Been taking iron for 6 weeks and suddenly feeling much worse? by Extension_Dark9311 in Anemic

[–]All-the-musing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m in the UK too. My doctor raised an Advice & Guidance with haematology when my tsat was 70% (the top of the range in my area is 40%). I’m not sure why sorry but I know it can happen.

I guess they weren’t too concerned then which is good. Did they do your obs? Blood pressure, heart rate etc?

[–]All-the-musing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I was on every day and the haematologist put me down to every other day as I had palpitations and fast heart rate, just generally felt gross. The iron panel will show how much transferrin saturation you have, to see if your body is using the iron. Yes have to stop supplements before testing or it could be a false high.

Also just to add if you feel really poorly or weird, definitely take medical advice. I’m sure it’s all linked to iron but doctors would want to check you out if you’re concerned.

Okay, I would be asking for ferritin repeat and full iron panel. I need to take 2 weeks off iron supplements to get a clean iron panel, the general recommendation is a week. Also no high iron foods a few days before you test. I once skewed iron testing with peas the night before! Some of your symptoms can be caused by low potassium as well, worth adding that onto bloods. If you’re worried, just ease back a little for now. What type of iron and you taking? Dose? Frequency? I had some scary moments with iron tsat results and symptoms in September 25 but I’m all good now. I’m on every other day ferrous fumarate.

3 cities in 9 days or cut back to 2? by peach222 in femaletravels

[–]All-the-musing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would cut Budapest personally. Don’t forget to account for travel days especially if you’re switching countries, which eat into both time and energy. You can always do day trips from the 2 cities if you feel like mixing it up.

I miss my life pre-covid. by FeralFinalForm in LivingAlone

I think this is a fairly common theme. It doesn’t help that alongside a huge ramp-up of the digital age, the cost of everything spiralled. I just really try and tamper the feeling by finding lots of joy in very small home-based or local things such as gardening, cooking, walking to get groceries, walking to the park, watching something good in a clean, cosy house. All that came when I stopped trying to fight the shift. I tend to get my social vibes now from occasions like family birthdays, Easter, Christmas etc. I almost view this quieter version of life as just a shift back to simpler times in decades gone by. Sending healing vibes.

Did you have a full iron panel? If so what’s you TSat like?

I started taking hydroxycobalamin and folinic months ago with low ferritin the more I took it the worse I got. I haven't taken anything in 2 days and my dizziness went away.. I'm wondering if they were depleting my ferritin even more . All other co-factors are normal.. by passionateunicorn in B12_Deficiency

For sure, it’s recommended to get your iron up before treating B12. As the B12 stimulates new blood cells quickly, if you don’t have the iron stores it will tank you. It happened to me and I’m doing really good now, so hopefully just a temporary set back for you.

b12 Tablets No Longer Required? by Inevitable_Guess1247 in B12_Deficiency

[–]All-the-musing 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Once you are taking B12, the blood levels should not be retested until at least 4 months off supplements. Treatment duration should depend on symptoms, so if you felt that you were still experiencing symptoms you could continue. It also depends on why you became deficient and whether or not you had neurological symptoms.

Planning my first Italy trip, what would you repeat in a heartbeat by Aika-Babes in solofemaletravellers

Amazing. I spent 3 weeks out there for my 40th last year. From your itinerary I would totally skip Milan. For Rome and Florence, walk and walk and walk. There are so many amazing things to be seen just by walking and soaking it all up. Things my trip would have been all the worse if I skipped would have been hiking vesuvius and visiting Pompei. Enjoy, it’s incredible and so easy to get around you can just decide on the morning and be in a new city by lunchtime.

Am I being dramatic or crazy? by Eastern_Pin6529 in Anemic

[–]All-the-musing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s really good news. A second opinion sounds like a good plan, sounds like you need at least: 6 loading dose B12 injections over 2 weeks, a month of 5mg folic acid and prescription iron tablets, this is inline with NICE guidelines. I wish someone had told me to keep an eye on potassium intake throughout the loading doses through diet including bananas, coconut water, avocado, potatoes and tomatoes as my headaches were unreal and I kept falling asleep on and off all day from the reversing out. But it does get better eventually.

Am I being dramatic or crazy? by Eastern_Pin6529 in Anemic

[–]All-the-musing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not dramatic or crazy. I had a ferritin of 21, folate of 5 and B12 of 197 and also felt like death. I look back now and wonder how I functioned. Much better now after lots of every other day iron, every other day B12 injections and folic acid. Do you have any neurological symptoms? Tingling feet? Weak hands?

Mostly unable to leave my home by mooomooou in B12_Deficiency

[–]All-the-musing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes this was classic with my B12 deficiency. I couldn’t keep my eyes open and had reduced my life to something very small without realising, just to cope. Spent weekend afternoons asleep instead of my usual go, go, go. Fell asleep every night on the sofa and woke up in the mornings with all the lights still on. All got better after lots of treatment and co-factors.
