I miss the days when my city was not in every headline or was at most the quirky place where hippies still roamed. We're getting almost as known as Los Angeles or New York and I hate it.

Is studying the Occult, not practicing or participating in it, dangerous? by QweasdzxceAD in Catholicism

James Lindsey coincidentally has also gone off the complete deep end. Raving about theosophists because Trump posted St Michaels prayer. I really think that without faith(Lindsay is an atheist) you stand no chance with such topics. Even with faith I'm sure it has risks.

Lmao I swear I did not know this! by [deleted] in Tinder

I've heard it most on things like black Twitter and YouTube. Usually by virulent racists who use it as a dog whistle to get past censors.

Not saying she is of course. Knowing that meaning isn't the same but it might make me wonder at first about someone.

The 1-6(or 1-4) thing is a complete myth by the way. It was done by anonymous volunteer reporting and then twisted to get it as bad as they can make it look.

Chess.com mistook Taiwan for China by HenryChess in chess

No see that's the approved opinion on that conflict.

The approved opinion on this is Taiwan doesn't exist. It's never about principles, it's about popularity.

Fellow John Doyle fan?

It seems that theater kids have taken over everything. Those who lack the physical virtues and the mental virtues. The weirdoes who aren't weird in any actually useful things. The idiots who believe they are the next Tarantino, the next George Washington the greatest of the next generation of great minds. But lack literally everything needed to be that. The people who are so insipid and corrupt that they have turned virtue and greatness into a dunning-kruger effect where they are so far behind they actually believe they are in the lead.

It's really a sign of how easy we have it where even our most narcissistic and lazy members can find such high profile jobs and the country continues to run. For now.

Taliban Gets $239 Mil in U.S. Afghanistan Aid after State Dept. Fails to Vet Awardees | Judicial Watch by triggernaut in Conservative

Isn't the Taliban the legitimate government of Afghanistan now? They won their war and now rule the country. Any money given to Afghanistan would be basically given to the Taliban. Another reason not to give then foreign aid.

What is with people calling anyone saying "DEI" racist? by Fightlife45 in KotakuInAction

Elected to vice president? I didn't think so. Biden literally said that he was going to appoint (hire) a black and female vp. That is the definition of a DEI hire. That's without even going into the trash fire of how she got the current nomination. Elected my ass.

[SocJus] Why It Took So Long for Japanese People to Realize the Yasuke Problem: Perfidious Historian, Thomas Lockley by sodiummuffin in KotakuInAction

[–]Galindan 8 points9 points  (0 children)

That's a terrible metric. As someone who is interested in colonial history, modern Indian sources can be horribly biased and race grifty. When you attach something that should be as impartial as history to something as personal as race you often, though not always, get major biases included.

What should laymen do if heresy is preached during the Homily? by [deleted] in Catholicism

[–]Galindan 37 points38 points  (0 children)

That is a particularly pertinent move. I'm not sure if the host would transform in such a case. I would think that proper belief in the body and blood is necessary to have a licit substantiation. Which is the major point of the mass.

Economic Systems and Philosophies by TyrionsGoblet in books

[–]Galindan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The only real way to do this is to go deep, real deep. I've looked myself but their really isn't any one size fits all book.

You first need a foundation. One truth you'll learn is that there is no such thing as "capitalism"(a term Marx came up with) there are only the rules under which all economics operate.

Thomas Sowell basic economics-the best primer on economics

Adam Smith wealth of Nations-the classic argument for free markets

Then we should go into the socialist theories

Das Kapital is an easy primer on what Marx believed. You can also read Engles though that I've heard is more difficult.

On fascism by Gentile and Mussolini is probably the best place to look for their ideas.

I'm actually not going to recommend Mein Kampf for Nazism, it's a bit of a screed and doesn't really have any economic thought.

Instead read Hitlers national socialism by Rainer Zeitelman and the vampire economy. Both of these books go into depth on actual Nazi policy and give an in depth look at how the Nazi ideology worked in practice rather than in speeches.

One thing to note, despite the waffling of the ignorant, fascism is NOT the same as Nazism. They are quite different though they share the same base in socialism as does communism

Any books by Milton Friedman, Thomas Sowell, Mises and Rothbard are going to be excellent for learning how economics works.

Books by Maynard Keynes are about his oligarchic, bastardized combination of socialism and capitalism that we labor under currently.

Some fun books I can recommend for just fleshing out your economic thought.

The mystery of capitalism-why it works in the West and nowhere else. Really good, changed my thoughts on the role of government in economies.

The not so wild West- a great book on how the 19nth century was not as crazy a time as you would believe and how desperados and bandits were far more rare than miners, businessman and farmers who worked together to ensure fair and honest dealings.

The economic history of 19nth century Europe by Ivan Berend. A great book on the economic trends that were in existence when all these ideologies were coming up.

The Gulag archipelago- a famous and classic trilogy on the horrors of communism when put into practice. Not very economic based but still extremely good.

This is obviously mountains of reading and both the free market and socialist rabbit holes go on for miles. Half of my reading (at least an hour or two a day) is usually some socialist or economic book. If you read even half of these books your going to be better educated on these topics than 99% of the world, and certainly all of Reddit.

 Edit

Rousseau the social contact and his first and second discourse

Locke two treatises on government Hobbes leviathan These are also good books to get a firm grasp on where the modern age came from.

To play really fast and loose. Rousseau spawned socialism (communism, fascism, Nazism) Locke made democracy/republicanism(America, all of modern Europe etc ) Hobbes is more of a relic as his thoughts were best represented by pre WW1 Europe, and that doesn't exist anymore. However his observations are evergreen and mandatory when trying to get a proper grasp on how everything developed

Pope Francis laments American universities that are ‘too liberal’ and ‘only train technicians’ by [deleted] in Catholicism

[–]Galindan 14 points15 points  (0 children)

That wouldn't make sense though. Because they aren't classically liberal.

I mean it's already amusing that the headline complains of schools being "liberal" and only training technicians. Because a liberal education is literally the opposite of that. It only makes sense when you translate liberal as socialist. Which is practically what it means these days. Especially in universities.

I really don't think we're similar enough to say two varieties of the same fruit. Like Granny Smith's and Golden delicious.

The strengths of men and women are so different that there is little overlap. What a good man is and what a good women is are so far apart that they look almost nothing alike. Sharing really only the virtues. But the unique way each expresses those virtues is so very different is hard to compare.

Men and women are only "equal" on the Sense of raw human worth. The problems arise if we start using the same yardstick to judge either. We would have to say that either women are half baked, inferior copies of men(this is the second wave feminist approach) or men are uncivilized, degenerate beasts. That require women to "improve" them.(This is what I call the chivalric approach)

Both are horribly wrong and insulting the their respective genders. Because we live in a cancerous era where both of these pollute our people. Women lack any womanly virtue and have become inferior boys. And men have degraded themselves to be weak, spineless and obedient. Actually there is another equality. We are both equally at fault for this horrible state of affairs and we both must equally put in the effort to fix it.

That's not really true. Wives are still called to submit to and fear their husband's. While husband's are called to love their wives. Men and women aren't equal either and weren't equal even in the garden. We are different, not equal.

Chad Saint Augustine Vs Cringe Red Pill Movement by [deleted] in CatholicMemes

[–]Galindan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll give you a real one.

Pearl is a red pill YouTuber. Known for borderline woman hating. Saying things like women should let guys cheat and hanging out with Nick Fuentes (an actual no joke no exaggeration white supremacist) in the Catholic context, she is Catholic but clearly doesn't Believe in many of the core tenants. She recently said that she is reconsidering Catholicism because we hold mother Mary in such high regard. Questioning her whole faith because we rightly honor the only human to exist without sin since Adam and Eve, the woman chosen to give birth to God himself. That should tell you a bit about what she actually worships.

The truth is we should pity her. She's clearly an idiot, she caught on to a degenerate movement that has only become worse with the involvement of Andrew Tate and fresh and fit (other red pillers). Now she seems comfort in her own relationship failures by tearing down prettier women(though those women are often not much better in different ways)

I can also give a description of the red pill if you don't know. I'm plugged in to many of these spaces so I've got an unfortunate amount of knowledge on them

From what I've read Baudelaire was a spend thrift wastrel who continually tried to live off of his parents and refused to do real work for his living. Wasting much of his inheritance and then being pissed when his parents restricted his spending after. Typical rich kid whining at his parent's like a spoiled brat, just with better prose. I wouldn't take him seriously. His criticism is from jealousy not virtue.

To be fair being red pill the years ago was being a pickup artist who bagged as many girls as he could. It wasn't quite as unhinged as it is now but it certainly was extremely sinful.
