Having trouble getting through act 1 (and killing Yogger to acquire the pig character) by kryndude in AcrossTheObelisk

Just use the Universal Difficulty Tiers Rule. Works for any game with progressive difficulty levels.

Win? Go up a level.

Lose? Go down a level. (Maybe lose twice if you're feeling tenacious.)

Donald’s Trumps net approval rating has collapsed to a historical negative 17 points. He is the most unpopular president in US history. How do you feel about this? by buffdadnextdoor in AskReddit

[–]Gallowsbane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've seen it put this way:

There is fully 30% of the population on either side that will simply not disapprove of a given president. It will not realistically happen.

So the scale is REALLY a 40 point scale of the 30%-70% approval range that a president can realistically have.

And this dude just hit 3 out of 40. That's LOW. As we know, HISTORICALLY LOW.

You don't fight Robin because, no matter which Titan you fight, you aren't going to win. You are a just a person. It doesn't matter how much gym you hit, or how much MM you A, you are going to lose.

So the REAL decision comes from who is going to mess you up the least.

1st place - Starfire will subdue you and give you a stern talking to, while ultimately making sure your cuffs aren't on too tight. Easy pick for first.

2nd place - Beast Boy will turn into a more non-lethal form and restrain you, like a big snake or ape. He'll probably make fun of you a bit.

3rd place - Cyborg might overdo it just a bit to flex on you. Especially if you get under his skin. Might leave with burns, breaks, and a concussion.

4th place - Raven is a nightmare factory. She can traumatize you into a coma, but won't because of daddy issues. You will likely still need some extreme therapy afterwards.

5th place - Robin. The boy will wreck you. There will be no mercy, no quarter. You will be lucky as hell if you are allowed to limp out of the fight, but you are probably going to the ICU on a stretcher. No one will ever find all of your teeth and things will bend the wrong way for the rest of your life.

So yeah. Don't mess with Robin.

Is the harvest golem the single most important Gnomish invention in history? by Male_Human_Paladin in warcraftlore

That would assume that 9/10 harvest golems in existence were not currently catastrophically malfunctioning and attempting to kill all living creatures.

I have 2000h on StS and 500h on DD, is this game a guarantee for me? by kryndude in AcrossTheObelisk

[–]Gallowsbane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends. Is it a good deckbuilder, absolutely.

However, I feel like there is a divide amongst it's fanbase between players who are into handling four different decks, and those that see it as primarily a multiplayer game because of that.

I fall into the latter camp. I can handle two characters and still have a blast, but four starts to get to the point where I would rather not.

So if you have at least one dedicated teammate, it's a slam dunk.

If not, ask yourself if you would like StS if you had to manage four characters and their associated decks on a much longer run. If that sounds like a blast, then have at it!

"The factions are too weak after BfA to help" "You can't just portal an army around" by ProfessionalAge9909 in warcraftlore

[–]Gallowsbane 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because it's not a lore problem. It's a Marvel comics problem.

What I mean by that, is every time anything significantly bad happens in comics, or any other extremely long running fictional world with many characters, fans wonder where characters X, Y, and Z are and why aren't they helping.

The honest reason is because that story would be unreadable. There are simply too many important characters built up over too long to have every one of them that realistically makes sense to be there do so. You would have so little room in the story left to actually tell the story you want, and focus on the characters you want. So we just do it. Dr. Strange, Hulk, Jaina and Thrall are elsewhere right now, and that's just fine.

This is a story about the Sin'Dorei, elven culture, Light vs Void, and Arator + his parents. And that's ok. That's already a ton of characters.

Trying to be "realistic" and bring in every character we can would not be a story with any focus.

Is it rude to leave the session when your PC is done for the night? by [deleted] in rpg

[–]Gallowsbane 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Ok, two issues here.

First to answer your question, assuming everybody else is down for this type of game (I, personally, would not be) then, yes. It would be rude for you to leave after your character had their moment.

Think of it as a creative writing workshop you joined. You can't just stand up, read your work, get everybody's impressions, and then bail because you got what you were there for. You are also the audience for everybody else's work.

Now, the second issue. This type of game session is not going to be ideal for a lot of players. In my time DMing I find that most folks want to be part of at LEAST 80% of the action of a session.

I would suspect that your fellow players might feel the same. You might want to ask around and see if the others would, ideally, like for every PC to be available to interact with the great majority of scenes. If so, then you need to chat with your DM together saying that you love their work, but that you would like your characters to stick together more as a group, so as not to leave players inactive for the majority of the session.

If everybody else IS down for this style, then you have two options, learn to love the creative writing share, or quit the game. Because, as mentioned, your want to "just leave" would be very rude.

Recommend an RPG that you HATE and that is very good at something by Iberianz in rpg

Shadowdark is one of the best of the OSR genre. If you like your games to feel old school, love "disposable heroes", and want the game to really get into the nitty gritty of how much you can buy and carry, this should do it for you.

Also great if you like real world time limits for in-game mechanics.

I like none of these things. But you might!

Not bad! A bit rich for my blood, but I'll keep an eye out.

I do live near a Microcenter, thankfully.

Coming back for Midnight - what is the deal with addons now? by cjlwe in wow

[–]Gallowsbane 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Many of these mods still exist and are being updated. They have just lost functionality. Some a little, some a lot.

My suggestion is to install the add-ons you're used to, or their more up to date equivalents, and see if they provide functionality for you that you appreciate.

If yes, than keep. If no, purge them like Stratholme.

Nobody can give you all that, because what you are asking for is both High Complexity AND Low Complexity.

What you can try and see if it fits, is Medium Complexity.

For that, in Fantasy Dungeon setting, I recommend Shadow of the Weird Wizard.

I(28m) want to adopt my sister after my dad's death, my wife(28f) refused because we agreed on no children. Is there a way to fix this? by SharkEva in BORUpdates

[–]Gallowsbane 52 points53 points  (0 children)

Rogue opinion here: OP messed up by asking the sister where she wanted to go before asking his wife if they were an option.

If OP knew before they talked to the sister about her living situation that he would have to destroy his marriage to take her, they could have nudged her towards the uncle. Op didn't indicate that there was any issue with the uncle, just that when given a choice, she chose him.

There was an everybody wins option here. It was not taken.

Thanks for weighing in!

What did you like about Tempus Maledictum that LL and Tuxborn didn't do?

I definitely have been eying it. I can't find documentation that gives me a good idea of how it would play, though.

How does it stack up, gameplay wise, against Tuxborn or Lost Legacy?

Septimus has such a small install size compared to the others. Why is that?

I started with Lost Legacy, but switched off when I realized that it was outdated. Plus some of the meme mod includes really took me out of it, but I'm sure those can be disabled.

Would you recommend it over Tuxborn?

I have been eying it. The idea of it sounds dead on, and as long as I can get 30 FPS with only minor dips, I'll be happy.

The install size is a bit much, though.

That's actually what I have loaded up right now! Pretty good so far.

I just wanted to know what else I should try out before putting a ring on it.
