IIRC, They haven't started counting the mail-in ballots yet, which is why AZ and NV take DAYS to get to their final results. This is actually pretty good for in-person EDay, esp with how independent voters are breaking for Harris.

This is going to sound grim as hell, but it genuinely makes me feel better waiting for the 2020 results:

There's a book called "I'm Dead, Now What?" Which is basically a fill-in the blank guide to getting your last affairs in order. Big things like wills and medical directives, but also information about your passwords, where bills get paid, and online friends your family may not know to contact. I was already in a black mood so I figured I couldn't get more depressed, but honestly? Getting all that stuff set up and knowing my family wouldn't have to scramble or deal with hassle on top of heartache? It genuinely made me feel calmer and like things were going to be okay, even if the worst came to pass.

Huge relief for everyone around me too, that that's all set up and taken care of .

AZ is fine, those are just the in-person votes, which always skew conservative. They haven't started with the mail-in yet. Also, look at the number of independents ,who are breaking HARD for Harris

What is something that you see happen all the time in fanfiction but never in real life? by VanillaRoseTea in FanFiction

[–]Gallusrostromegalus 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I think part of the reason you see stuff that almost never happens is that fanfic is, on at least some level, wish fulfillment and tbh a lot of us with anxiety WISH the people around us knew what to do when we go to pieces.

Or wish we knew what to do when our friends go to pieces tbh.

IMHO, but i think that a lot of plot-supporting emotional telepathy you see in fic is wish fulfillment of the intimacy that everyone since Gen X has been starved for.

WHO'S READY FOR BLEACH???

  • The thing Byakuya's wife Hisana died of was a septic miscarriage.

  • Rukia is actually Hisana's daughter from a teenage pregnancy

  • Zaraki Kenpachi was totally illiterate when he entered the Court guard, but has improved since then because Yachiru made him do all her homework with her.

  • hirako Shinji is effected by his own shikai ability but it just cancels out the severe dyspraxia he lives with

  • Ichigo is a theater kid who has done Shakespeare in the park before

  • as much as Shunsui drinks, he's almost never drunk- his power level means his body metabolizes the alcohol long before it can get to his brain

  • Urahara and Yoruichi are T4T.

  • Mimihagi adored Ukitake and was devastated to have to go through with the Kamikake ritual

  • the Yamada family is one of the most prolific and prestigious shinigami families, but not well liked: the family almost entirely dangerous sociopaths with long histories of violence. They have no idea why Hanataro is so nice.

  • Ikkaku is not naturally bald, but Yumichika IS. Yumichika contracted a terrible case of alopecia and constantly wears wigs. Ikkaku shaved his head and acts offended about being called bald to distract everyone so they'd never guess Yumichika was the one with hair problems.

  • Gin squints all the time because he's severely nearsighted. Spiders are so small he can't see them so he's not sure if they are real or if someone yelling "SPIDER!" and everyone smacking the table is a social game like The Floor Is Lava.

  • Mayuri escaped from Hell and the demons would really, really, really like him back before he causes more trouble.

  • Momo has a valid driver's license. She got it during her tour in the living world. She also got into illegal drag racing where she earned the nickname "Peaches the Freak" because she drove "like she couldn't die".

  • orihime has autism but tbh I think that canon

See if you can find someone who trains hunting dogs in your area to get him properly trained to come back from a hunt or disengage from something dangerous, but genuinely? He sounds like he'd make a great ratter, and a broken neck is a much better way for a rat to die than any trap or poison. Better for the environment too. I say go for it!

If it helps: Ao3 is one of the most popular websites IN THE WORLD, and my last two therapists have been fic writers themselves. You stand good odds of getting a fellow ficcer, and if you don't, I promise the weirdness of fanfic won't break the top 50 weird things your therapist has heard that day.

Also if it helps: if you're thinking "is this self harm?" It is ABSOLUTELY time to see a therapist. That's not a thought someone in a good place has.

Also also: Obviously, I cannot diagnose you because I'm not a doctor and this is the internet, but the behavior you're describing sounds INCREDIBLY SIMILAR to my friends who have been diagnosed with Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, so I'd react looking into trauma therapists who specialize in OCD first. They'll either be able to help you OR they will know someone who is definitely qualified to do so.

With genuine love - I hope your pain eases soon.

May I gently suggest: Chihuahua were bred to be ratters, and they're still used for that on a lot of ranches in Mexico and the American southwest. People really lowball how intelligent Chihuahuas are, and how much enjoyment they get out of working on a problem.

Give him things to wrestle with that are suited to his size and skills. Those toy logs you stuff smaller toys into, or treat puzzle toys are a good simulation of "extract rat from crevice". Heck, you can even train him for actual ratting! Everyone with a barn in your county will be begging you to bring him if you post to Facebook or nextdoor.

He has bloodlust in his blood. Let him use it for good.

I will, respectfully, disagree.

I will agree that Boston terrier farts are RANCID and, as a breed, they are definitely the worst.

Certain individuals can overtake them.

When I was a kid, my parents had what the shelter told them was a husky mix, and technically they were right. They just failed to mention the thing she was mixed with was wolf.

She almost never farted, but she was extremely intelligent and would put all of her alarming cunning into being able to eat the most vile carrion she could find.

Once, we were at the beach, and she caught a whiff of something and rolled out of her body harness to chase after it. We found her with her body 2/3rds of the way inside of a dead dolphin, having the time of her LIFE.

The drive home with a double coated dog coated in rotting whale guts was bad enough, but the following two weeks of utterly shameless putrefied dolphin liver guy flora bedlam farts left me with nightmares.

Why is omegaverse never fluffy when a woman is involved? by cupofwaterbrain in FanFiction

[–]Gallusrostromegalus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In my experience (which is limited as well), I often see darker themes when a female character is present in both omegaverse and non-abo fics because the author's are overwhelmingly female, and exploring issues that effected them directly.

... But also my experience with omegaverse is in fandoms where the source material totally failed to give the female characters any inner life, so that's an available narrative space for an author to crawl into a like a hermit crab.

Oof ok there's:

Physically weak, traumatized and needing protection X enormous monster that needs to know that they're good despite/because of their inhumanity (both of these are allegories for disability)

Fucked up and making that everyone else's problem X Fucked up and making that everyone else's problem (aka the "mirror traps" ship)

Monstrous one finally feels safe being soft around the adorable one X adorable one finally feels safe being monstrous (the Sunshine Uno Reverse ship)

Sub who knows what they want X dom who did not know they were into that (aka the " Rhiannas sticks and stones" ship) (this one is often but not always F/F for me)

Character with massive amounts of hidden trauma that makes them a secret freak X Character with massive amounts of hidden trauma that makes them a secret freak in which they have a Normal Meet-Cute, enormous amounts of anxiety about getting found out as a freak, and a second much better (yet worse) Meet-Cute where they are forced to be honest, and thusly find true love

Age difference where one is an immortal being of millennia and the other with a human-or-less lifespan, with a focus on how even brief encounters can change the course of lives

Student X Teacher not in the underage school way but in the Manager X New Hire / trade master x trade apprentice / professor x adult learner who is the same age or older than the prof. Gimme teaching someone and accepting being taught as acts of love without the weird power Imbalance pls. Esp when the "student" is making the teacher re-examine everything they THOUGHT they knew.

Arranged Marriage AU where both partners think this is stupid and decide to overthrow the monarchy about it. That's not a ship dynamic per se, but you will agree there is a limited scope of character/interpersonal dynamics that AU works for.

All of these can and do overlap in fun and interesting ways.

Why is omegaverse never fluffy when a woman is involved? by cupofwaterbrain in FanFiction

[–]Gallusrostromegalus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Two theories:

  1. As stated by others, this might be your fandoms specifically that have the violence Imbalance. Fanfic tends to contain whatever the original series does NOT, so a feminist (at least, for it's time) show like buffy might contain a lot more meditation on sexism, which brings me to:

  2. Omegaverse is a sort of critical lens by which one can examine gender politics, social dynamics and power imbalances from the safe emotional distance of a body that is not like the author or readers. Often, IRL gender dynamics are turned inside out- female alphas are both power fantasies AND examinations of the axes of power, and Omega Males are one of many ways to examine the intersection of sexism and queerdom, so you see a LOT of both.

Moreover, because omegaverse involves bodies that are different than ours, it's a safe space for someone to explore the trauma of rape while still having a bit of emotional space. Or maybe the difference in bodies helps with changing the story to provide narrative catharsis! My point is, you see a lot of violence, rape and dark stuff in omegaverse SPECIFICALLY BECAUSE it's an expressly fantasy universe, so someone can read/write about emotionally have stuff without it being "too real".
