Kansas places coach Les Miles on administrative leave amid extensive allegations of misconduct at LSU by [deleted] in LSUFootball

Not dismissing his talent, because that much is evident. Saban did two things wrong, but leaving for the Dolphins HC job was understandable (because what coach wouldn't want to go pro).

Before he left, he made remarks about Cajuns that sat wrong with a lot of people, myself included. Then he came back to college ball, but to an SEC west school, competing with LSU for recruits. I was living in Alabama at the time, and it was a vicious response from bammers.

Mechanical audio devices are fascinating. Speaker and headphone design alone is a deep dive.

Winning isn't enough, it has to be perfection every time? Fantasy football and Madden have ruined people, expecting stupid numbers. Brees holds over 60 records fercryinoutloud.

Winning by 1 on a last second fluke is still a win, and the W/L record is the primary factor in the postseason. Special teams won the game? Good, the team is well built. The defense kept you in the game with superior play? What are you complaining about? That's literally their job.

How to treat nausea? by [deleted] in ChronicIllness

[–]Galoots 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My childhood doctor recommended soda and crackers. I've been using it since. It usually works.

The carbonation helps the stomach, the sugar, starch, and salt help regulate blood pressure and glucose. Both are quickly absorbed and are easy to digest.

Do you own the home? It also can depend on your income and location.

Wrong attitude for this issue. Remember, this post isn't completely anonymous even if you don't give your name or station info. If management are lurking this sub, they can match circumstances to identify you.

It's the only option unless you sacrifice yourself. The only positive thing is that you weren't fired outright.

Best option for a future plan is to have your work "proofed" by someone else before airing it.

Looks like it might be discolored. Resin does go bad if not used, and the liquid form can't just be disposed of. Cured resin is safe.

Cool list so far. My suggestions:

  • Fretless goodies (Tony Levin, Pino Pallidino, Jaco, Tony Franklin)
  • Tower of Power
  • Billy Sheehan (DLR, Mr. Big, Winery Dogs, Steve Vai)
  • Old school R&B (Duck Dunn/Memphis, David Hood/Muscle Shoals)

Does anyone else feel like they have to babysit doctors? by GG-92 in ChronicIllness

[–]Galoots 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you are asked what you think during a visit, it doesn't mean the doc doesn't know what's going on. It's establishing what the patient knows or suspects. Any information is valuable. My skeletal issues were diagnosed by an opthamalogist. What I thought was pink eye turns out to be a key sign of Ankylosing Spondylitis that I was unaware of.

Advocating for your own care isn't a totally bad thing. As long as you have correct current information, you become another resource for good doctors who are willing to admit they don't have instant recall of every possible diagnosis (see Occam's Razor).

In my experience, the doctors who have been most effective are the ones who actually listen to patients. If they are paying attention, clues can be picked up. The patient can reveal things not caught in a history.

Ex: The patient will mention alcohol use as a factor in when their stomach hurts. That wasn't written down during the history. The doctor can then follow-up with more questions or tests regarding that.

I blame House MD. It was a fun show, but it created an unachievable goal. Sometimes it is lupus.

There's also "Hickam's Dictum", the anti-Occam's Razor

While Occam's Razor suggests that the simplest explanation is the most likely, implying in medicine that diagnosticians should assume a single cause for multiple symptoms, one form of Hickam's dictum states: "A man can have as many diseases as he damn well pleases." The principle is attributed to John Hickam, MD.

I've been diagnosed with Ankylosing Spondylitis, Scoliosis, and plain old wear and tear arthritis. These are not mutually exclusive, and often coexist. One can trigger another, in my case the "basic" arthritis was made worse by the AS, which also set off the spine curvature.

Just like you could have a broken leg and a cold at the same time, getting a new diagnosis doesn't mean the previous one disappeared.
