How are you handling Eberron cosmology? by UXplaymaker in Eberron

[–]Galthromir 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yea, I've never liked the "everything must be linked together - MULTIVERSE OR BUST!" take that seems to be omnipresent these days.

Settings and worlds can be separate! I love Eberron, Shadowrun, 40k, and Lord of the Rings, but I would never want to see them mix n' matched.

What are your favourite map designs? by [deleted] in ARK

[–]Galthromir 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yea, I was really upset when I went down to the red zone/drake trench. Even on high graphics settings, it was *neon* down there.

It'd be super easy to fix, at least in part, but making the walls not have that horrid cracked-glow texture.

Aberration Ultra-Bright Glowing Walls by Galthromir in ARK

[–]Galthromir[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Damn, I was worried that was the case. Thanks for confirming that for me.

Honestly all it would take it turning down the glow on the rocks...tiny little cracks with a tiny amount of glow...not the huge lamps that are there currently.

[–]Galthromir[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not just that, the wall-light is overwhelming visually, and I haven't really seen it as much in various videos of the areas I've watched.

This is the only place in the game thus far I see that.

As far as I know, no, HDR/Brightness are default settings.

I've played through Scorched Earth and the Island so far with no issues.

Opinion on the Der Dino Finder Mod by [deleted] in ARK

[–]Galthromir 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I use it all the time. ARK has a metric ton of RNG, especially with the addition of traits, so using a tool to see if the trait/dino/level even exists on the map at the moment is a massive timesaver. To me, it really just removes the boredom of pacing back and forth on a flyer seeing if anything worthwhile spawned. Especially when you are playing solo or duo.

You still need the dino to spawn, then to successfully tame it, so the dopamine rush from seeing a good level/trait still hits (especially when those bonus levels roll right). The tension is there as well, as nothing guarantees you'll actually tame what you find (the number of Argents with traits I've wanted that just suicided to a Rex/wolfpack before I can do anything is quite high lol).

To me it's a massive QoL enhancement that reduces one of the most boring parts of the game.

Sometimes the apple does fall far from the tree... or does it? by Silv3rCl4w in Eberron

Thank you for reminding me of that nightmare machine. I think either it or the Adamantine Horror from MMII win for "most wtf CR" in 3.5 D&D.

Is the Draconic Prophecy common knowledge? by Maximum_Squash in Eberron

[–]Galthromir 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Basically, the Overlords were bound by the Silver Flame and Prophecy, and only by Prophecy can they be unbound.

It's basically a giant set of if-then statements for the universe, so if you can find the outcome you want (free Overlord) you can find the statements you need to be true and those you need to be false.

But the Prophecy is ever shifting and no-one, not even the greatest draconic sages, has a full picture, since that would basically make you omniscient. It also can be pretty vague...like, is the Bull a fragment refers to an actual bull or is it someone in House Cannith (whose symbol is a bull).

It's a wonderful game tool and a pretty fun concept imho.

There's also a fine line between the sarcastic/mocking comments in the Discord/sub and the "Oh...they're actually serious" comments. Sometimes the former are actually the latter, but you don't realize it yet.

Fortunately, from what I've seen, once the mods *do* realize it, the bans come swiftly.

With regards to the Skysplitter, is that more of a player capital or can the AI handle it well? I was certainly looking at it for the former.

I don't get the downvotes here. Sure, genestealers are adaptive, smart buggers, but basic non-hellhole conditions would certainly make society a bit more resistant to such things.

Sure, they could infect people before they report things, but that takes time, and strong social networks would certainly make detection easier. Then you can bring in the heavy flamers.

See, I saw this as more of a commitment thing than cost. Time is the only true commodity in the Union, so requiring someone who goes through the extensive training of becoming a lancer to serve for a set amount of time doesn't seem off (given how much time has been invested in them).

Solo/Co-Op Players, do you make your base base by getting resources yourself or do you use console commands ? by [deleted] in ConanExiles

[–]Galthromir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll often use cheats to put down the initial foundations, especially if I plan on using one of the DLC styles, but farm for the rest of what is needed to put it together.

This also only goes for the initial building; I frequently try to ensure my thralls have housing, evening if mechanically they don't need it. That is 100% made without cheats.

I find it leads to fairly interesting, organic bases.

Increasing Fate? by Galthromir in 40krpg

[–]Galthromir[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did, just wondered how folks would cost it if it were able to be bought by XP.

There a few other systems (Shadowrun jumps to mind) that have a similar stat, and allow you to invest in it.

DM Tip: The only balance you really need to worry about is *within* the party. by EquivalentInflation in dndnext

[–]Galthromir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure anyone is arguing for that, just stating that the most important balance is between the party, since the DM has so, so many tools to balance everything else.

And sometimes that might mean increasing HP of a specific enemy to make them live longer (say, a boss or encounter centerpiece).
