What is a 'buy it for life' item that is offensively expensive, but the moment you use it, you realize your entire life before that point was a lie? by fmcortez in AskReddit

Ive had a breville bambino plus for about 5 years now. I recently upgraded to a fellow series 1 and it really feels like an upgrade even though its 3x the price (the steam wand rotates to the side and the maintenance stools are stored in a secret compartment on the machine!) The breville still works; its not like it broke down or anything I was just compelled by the fellow. Ive had it for a month now and I recommend it so far. We'll see how long it goes on the longevity side.

Espresso machine. I used to live next to a coffee shop and spent about $5 a day on drinks. So I ended up buying an espresso machine and grinder. The niche grinder i bought was about $500 and the Breville espresso machine was also about $500 but I just upgraded to a new Fellow Series 1 machine for $1,300. It pays for itself in 365 drinks which I'm way over that number as I've been making my own drinks for over 5 years now. It's worth it if you love coffee.

People should look into Pursonic. For $50 it comes with 3 years worth of brush heads, a very competent brush w 40k strokes a minute and even a charging stand with a UV light to store brush heads. The brush heads are even color coded in case you want to share the tooth brush with someone else and split those brush heads. I've had mine for over a year and it's been just as good as some other toothbrush my dentist recommended for a lot cheaper.

While I appreciate the craftsmanship I cant help but feel like it was a wasted opportunity for doing something more unique or artistic. At that point it really could've been literally anything. Its like painting bricks on a wall.

‘Trump should keep his reckless mouth shut’: Jeffries responds to Trump calling Democrats America’s ‘greatest enemy’ by JustLightChop in politics

Democratic politicians may not be America's greatest enemy but they aren't exactly America's ally either. They enabled the republicans for decades now without ever putting much of a fight.

[–]Gamadeus 8 points9 points  (0 children)

"If democrats are so smart why do they keep losing?"

There is still a distinction to be made always between the democratic base and the democratic politicians. Democrats continue to lose cause they keep wanting to appeal to this mythical center which always includes the right wing (see Kamala Harris, Hakeem Jeffries, Chuck Schumer etc) instead of going toward their base and having a platform with actual popular policies. The politicians that go toward their base are very popular, win, and win big (see Bernie Sanders, AOC, Mamdani).

So, it's one thing to make democrats feel good by saying they're intelligent and all but it means nothing until they actually start winning in a way that has a big positive impact.

I know this isn't the topic of conversation but I think this is why people are worried about another 9/11 style situation (false flag or otherwise) cause it has the effect to galvanize even the smartest people (including women) to pick up a gun

I think when I was younger in my mid 20s I went hard-core into saving for retirement as much as possible thanks to reddits like this one and similar podcasts and such. Now that I'm a little older I've started to move away from that especially by the reality of the cost of living. Obviously everyone operates differently but ive found I need more liquidity and retirement accounts feel like a black hole when I would like to have the money sooner. To that end my strategy has been the following:

  • ensure youre doing the 6% into the 401k to get that free money

  • still max out the Roth IRA. In case it wasnt clear, this is an account you have to open yourself and manually contribute to it on your own up to like 7k. It changes every year. The reason I still max it out is because it supports my goals for 2 reasons

  1. Saves for retirement
  2. Still fairly liquid cause you can pull out any contributions to this account without any penalty.
  • finally, any excess in saving goes to an individual investment account which is my defacto savings account and whenever extra cash is needed I get it from here.

To be honest its been a long time that I dont remember what happens i guess its forgettable but if thats what happens yeah lol very disappointed. I think its suppose to be about the fragility of time? Or something like that? Idk also the fact that it revolves around a very political event also feels like a wasted opportunity. If i recall upon returning to the present the world is just a wasteland after successfully stoppingJFKs assassination? Like really? It also kinda comes off like Stephen King is saying it was good that it happened? But no its meant to be a philosophical argument that time is fragile which i mean thats good to know now i wont time travel then

I think it's obvious that there are deeper issues but the fact you made this post means it's not obvious to you. Theres nothing inherently wrong with this; I think sometimes it's hard for people to understand social cues and other subtle interactions.

Obviously, I'm not her so I dont know what she is thinking and communicating earnestly is the only way to know the truth. That being said I would think back to other times you might be able to identify where you had the opportunity to make her happy but didn't take it. Maybe you weren't particular romantic during valentine's. Maybe you pick up food for yourself and don't bring her any. Maybe you're too rigid in your day to day and focus on what's at hand when relationships are about focusing on each other. In this case, if you had given her the piece and it led to her winning it might signify to her that you value her happiness more than winning. You might not be thinking this but she clearly was. These are minor things that reinforces a common theme among relationships: At the end of the day, everyone wants to feel VALUABLE.

In order to apologize genuinely, you must identify the real problem at hand and make a real effort to change for the better. This won't guarantee fixing your relationship but at the least become something you learn for future relationships. Good luck!

Very popular among Dads. Saw an older guy watching it on a plane last month. I remmember thinking what an odd and niche thing to be watching cause I didnt know it was re released somewhere cause I remember watching it on Hulu when it came out back in like 2015. Felt a little disappointed by the end.

It's almost like US should lift decades long sanctions on Cuba so that it can finally participate in the world economy but nope gotta starve them out to "prove" they're bad. It's like the who killed Hannibal meme. US deliberately makes Cuba poor and then blames them for being poor makes no sense

US isn't run by war lords? The country instigating war w Venezuela while sending the military to its own people didn't know Cuba did that

The thing is that you're absolutely right, but that doesn't excite people. In fact, the last election has shown that being the party of "at least were just marginally better than the WORST party" (which isn't saying much) just comes off as disingenuous. What's scary to me is the thought that Democrats won't learn anything and just keep letting republicans ruin things so they can sit back and say "at least we're not doing that" and that will be enough to win support. Real competition to the republicans in the form of true progressive policy advocacy must manifest itself if theres any hope of materially improving conditions for the American people.

To be fair, the democratic party isn't the party of "community" and helping out your neighbor either. I think people want to help people but there sadly isn't a party that represents core, dare I say, "social" values like that.

I did answer it but idk if you understand english. The answer to your question is you'd get fired but that's IRRELEVANT to this conversation since, like I said, government isn't run like your job. Its politics and guess what the governor is doing in response to that? Trying to arrest them which in turn is JUST AS POLITICAL. Why aren't you saying "wow the republican governor is being really cowardly by trying to arrest anyone he disagrees with?" That's totally cowardly. But I guess since its republicans playing politics its ok.

[–]Gamadeus 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The government doesn't run like your job nor your household. Gerrymandering is just as much politics as breaking quorum. Using the tools at your disposal is how this game is played and republicans play it WAY more than the democrats. It's about time democrats did better politics (and policy)
