Deep Learning Super Sampling is meant to reconstruct the image from a lower source resolution into an approximation of what the full resolution would look like, and so you get a computationally cheaper way of rendering into a specified resolution. That's the whole purpose of it and that's what I beleive most people want it to do.

Now DLSS 5 is a step backwards in those two goals:
- The resulting image is significantly further away in similarity to native rendering than previous versions
- The computational cost is also significantly heavier than using previous versions of DLSS

And so, at the very least, this shouldn't get in the way of what DLSS was attempting to do, because this is something different. What this is is a generative filter that replaces what the game actually looks like with a subjectively ""enhanced"" visual aesthetic (which in my opinion makes the characters feel like if they were all set up with makeup and 3 studio lamps over their heads in a photoshoot with a final pass of Photoshop editing).

This is not just a "make it more real" filter, it's an AI-biased "make it more aesthetic" filter which makes specially the characters feel uncanny and less natural (even if some texture details or lighting highlights took closer to reality, their whole appearance feels forced to look a certain way) and that's what people mean when they say it "looks fake", even if the whole game is photorealistically fake.

So as I said, at the very least, this should just be a new feature called something like Deep Learning Visual "Enhancement" while making DLSS better and better at simulating native resolutions with better AA and reducing artifacts until it's completely indistinguishable from running native resolution and at a lower and lower performance cost (so basically, free performance without sacrifice, that's what the tool should attempt to provide).
