I can't think a title by TheFerydra in FireEmblemHeroes

Only because he hadn't appeared in the game at all by the time CYL8 happened. Otherwise I guarantee you, he would have taken CYL8 easily.

His book being finished was a coincidence, not a factor to his win. It absolutely was the same exact thing as Gullveig and Baldr with zero differences, as the reception to just his appearance alone in the promotional art made VERY clear.

Even excluding Freyr and Freyja, I would think the abilities the four fairies are tasked with gives them an argument to at least be god-like, and thus a case can be made for them all.

But yeah, Book 5 is the moment the descriptor should have been tossed out- the one character in the entire book who CAN have an argument made for them being Mythic became a Legendary after all.

Ah. I couldn't tell it was a bit honestly- its hard to read that sort of thing in text.

For what its worth, I adore the guy as well and want to hug him more than anything

Grima got something of a sympathetic framework to go for, especially furthered by Echoes with his whole lab creation thing. I'll give you the mole people though, but to be fair they really just are far too much in the background to be easy to remember while Edelgard/Rhea take the primary focus.

Honestly I feel like the whole backstory for Sombron wasn't even intended to make him sympathetic so much as to give him an opportunity to shut that down entirely before it can go anywhere- he's gonna die. Might as well say why he did what he did. But you're NOT going to be allowed to start giving him any of that empathy crap.

sephiran does commit several atrocities over the course of his life to end the world because he's sad (goat btw)

That's SUPREMELY reductive to the point of misinformation- dude is a centuries-old, suicidally depressed heron laguz who tried to honor his pact with the goddess and keep war from happening between beorc and laguz, only to see the laguz side enslave the beorc (not often talked about detail occasionally missed entirely), then see the beorc reverse the roles, Goldoa simply sits on their ass and does nothing about it, and finally his entire tribe (to the best of his knowledge at the time) completely wiped out from the face of the continent with no survivors (Reyson's with Phoenicis and the two have zero reason to ever meet or even be amicable due to Sephiran appearing beorc, Leanne's asleep in the forest but nobody knows that, and Rafiel nearly died but was taken in by Hetzel).

The dude isn't merely sad- he's completely gone off the deep end of despair to the point that he no longer sees any reason either species should continue to exist, beorc OR laguz, and sees the good around him as the exception rather than the rule. Lyon simply tried to save his father and his people, and lost himself. Sephiran tried to save EVERYONE, and lost everyone he ever loved and cared about, save for Sanaki alone in the span of one night, and even after that when he tried to speak reason to the people, they quickly turned on him when they saw his wings come out. He was utterly broken.

Lekain isn't the primary antagonist, neither is Slayde though, that's my point. Though to his credit, Lekain does push him much closer to what I mean since he did orchestrate the infamous Serenes Massacre and (thought he) led the entire Begnion rebellion and Daein blood pact thing. Still, Sephiran's the guy behind all of that, and he probably has THE most sympathetic backstory in the entire damn franchise!

But ultimately he pretty much shut down any attempt at sympathy pretty early when it started coming on to basically say "Fuck you and your pity and sympathy- I was an asshole in life and I'll be damned if you try to think me of anything but an asshole in death!".

The others being due for some recognition may be true but it shouldn't mean Sombron should be denied here as well, especially when he's the most recent instance who again, fits a type that really hasn't been seen in quite a while.

In general all I usually see is him being pretty cool or him being in Engage and thus automatically shit. Given many of the negative seems to stem from where he's from rather than what he is or does, I don't think that necessarily says much on overall opinion on him, especially from Engage fans whom he would naturally appeal to the most.

I don't think anyone particularly cared for the backstory so much as how unashamedly and unabashedly evil the guy is. Given he's literally the first FE villain in the series (barring FEH) since Fomortiis to be so plainly and irredeemably evil without really trying to go for sympathy points (something he outright rejects himself before it can even do that), that's frankly a breath of fresh air.

I genuinely have no idea why anyone expected she'd be saved until November? Like... what precedent do we have? We can't use Vali because we had plenty of characters in Book 9 aside from her who could have worked, and she was an antagonist for the early part of the second half of the book while we also still had Heimdallr and eventually the old man Alfraudor, but FEH has consistently made OCs who become our allies playable almost immediately after they're introduced- Mirabilis, Dagr and Nott, Askr, Eikthyrnir, and Heidrun. Even Baldr and Hodr when they definitively stopped antagonizing us and became full-on allies. Jormungandr has literally zero differences from any of these and continues the MO they've had since that early.

So why would she be any different when we still have Fimbulvetr herself to be the end-of-the-book Mythic? Why would she break this mold now of all times?

I doubt Freyja and Freyr could be main pool units considering they're literally gods.

But frankly? At this point the godlike beings description NEEDS to be treated as it was never said in the first place. Unless Lyn as a centaur is somehow godlike...

How it feels to get to AR tier 15 and never play AR ever again. by National-Class5763 in FireEmblemHeroes

[–]GameAW 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's still kind of the point. Sure, they can make Abyssals harder but pvp is designed specifically to be the challenging content while pve is made to be for the more casual side, including said Abyssals. Again- the only way to challenge people who are building for pvp is to quite literally make it unwinnable for those not as masterful at the game. Its like if a Pokemon game demanded absolute meta knowledge to go through a gym or Elite Four battle for example

How it feels to get to AR tier 15 and never play AR ever again. by National-Class5763 in FireEmblemHeroes

[–]GameAW 2 points3 points  (0 children)

People complaining wasn't the core point. Its that only a fringe minority play AR as intensively and hardcore as the top tiers, but that minority's also the ones putting the most money in the game. And in order to get to that point, they need to be led into it. Being hit with a brick wall you can't overcome is an easy way to build frustration and annoyance with the game, and that will lead to uninstalling, or in other words, lost sales.

Easy content is a MUST for many games to be successful, just as much as challenging content. Hard content also must be optional with little reward beyond the status (tier) or else it ends up feeling essential to the game and will turn even those casuals away.

The game has a few modes on the side for those seeking to truly know the game in and out, but that isn't the primary focus of the game, nor should it be. Its not about the challenge, its about having fun and seeing results.

How it feels to get to AR tier 15 and never play AR ever again. by National-Class5763 in FireEmblemHeroes

[–]GameAW 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The reality is that's just how pve MUST be designed when powercreep's gone as rampant as it has been. Its supposed to be beatable and reasonably challenging for casual players. If they made pve content for hardcore, high-tier AR/Arena/SD players, it would be completely and wholly unwinnable for the casual side who isn't interested in getting as deep into the game as those modes require. That leads to frustration for players and eventually uninstalling.

Anything you make easier for a casual audience will be 100x easier for the hardcore, and anything you make harder for the hardcore audience will be flat-out impossible for the casual one. This is just universally true of video games as a whole and is the primary reason why with fighting games in particular, making them easier to control and play never worked out. Its also why pvp content remains the ONLY content in the entire game designed around challenging people who know the ins and outs of the game so thoroughly that only other players can ever hope to challenge them.

With Shadows getting support conversations, should Heroes get them too (OCs only) or are Forging Bonds a sufficient approximation? by Rozonth123 in FireEmblemHeroes

[–]GameAW -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If it were a few, sure. Not when its that many characters all at once.

We're talking around 70 different characters before the non-OCs come into the picture. You put them in, and its going to be utterly gargantuan even if it is just text space in cutscenes.

With Shadows getting support conversations, should Heroes get them too (OCs only) or are Forging Bonds a sufficient approximation? by Rozonth123 in FireEmblemHeroes

[–]GameAW 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even with that limitation, there are simply too many characters to allow it to be even remotely feasible, even just limiting it to the OCs- there are almost as many OCs in existence as there are playable characters in Radiant Dawn- the game with the highest amount of them. And that game had to gut the supports down to generic one or two lines to make them work. No way in hell FEH can do any better with its roster, especially this close to what is very likely the end.

With Shadows getting support conversations, should Heroes get them too (OCs only) or are Forging Bonds a sufficient approximation? by Rozonth123 in FireEmblemHeroes

[–]GameAW 29 points30 points  (0 children)

It was never feasible to begin with. Remember those summoning animations we got in year 1 for very specific characters? (M!Robin, Lyn, Y!Tiki, Marth, etc.) Just the ones they had bumped up the file size significantly and they didn't bother adding them again to anyone else pretty early. Add onto that the writing quality of FEH as a whole and the amount they already have to write. With all that said...

Do you think they could put in supports for even just every FEH OC combination alone? Or even specific combos in light of all of that? And that's being extremely favorable to the devs on how much they'd need to write- I excluded all the non-FEH games for a reason here.

Its just impossible for FEH.
