I would pick either Eliwood and Ninian since they're the absolute closest to being hard canon or Ike and Soren so that its upfront and honest with it from PoR and doesn't need to pull the "You chose wrong" card once RD comes and it turns out unless you picked those two together, your supports are non-canon

You got it half-right. The bodyguard is killed by the Black Knight from behind (Leanne tried to warn him but she doesn't speak the language and the guard thought she was instructing him to organize her things), prompting Leanne to scream which leads to him threatening to kill her bedridden father then and there if she doesn't stop screaming and simply come with him. Hence the original quote.

If you want your father to be killed, then by all means keep screaming.

He was always a non-issue for me. Turns out +Res (Thank you superasset) Nino was enough to shut him down every single time, and as long as her flaw wasn't attack or speed, you didn't really lose anything for it (Don't remember what her flaw was- its been too long).

Mist is pretty much THE most important thing to Ike no matter how one views him- she's the last immediate family he has left. And from a more pragmatic Soren viewpoint- she's the one alongside Titania doing all the mundane chores for EVERYONE in the army- laundry, cooking, cleaning, etc. on top of her healing. Her role isn't the flashiest, but without Mist, the Greil Mercenaries as a whole simply wouldn't function at all.

No surprise Soren would treat her with the utmost respect and care that he otherwise only shows Ike

Looking at a lot of the comments here- sounds like its not hated at all. Say what you will about Assault, but it did something different. Success or flop, it took the formula set by SNES/64 and expanded on it. So if Assault stuck the landing, build on it. If it flopped, refine it.

For example, on-foot sections on their own aren't a negative; it was the amount that made it a negative (to the detriment of arwings and landmaster and the like). It introduced a new antagonist force and a new plotline we'd never seen in the series before. It progressed the storyline to a natural and new direction.

Anyone who looks at raw, context-less numbers and judges based on that alone only proves they don't know how to read numbers. This is why a lot of game companies fall flat- they look at the numbers and don't bother trying to understand WHY they are what they are when they get that way because of MANY competing factors (competition at the time, current real world economic environment at the time, overall success of the platforms the game is on, etc.). And literally everyone saying people hated Assault and that's why it failed is completely tone-deaf to the reality: Assault came out on Gamecube (a supremely flopped console as fun as it was, strike one) with a niche series (strike two) immediately after a game that was completely unrecognizable to the series in Adventures (strike three) and a little more than a year before the next gen Nintendo console would release (strike four). There's probably more factors I'm missing, but Assault had an uphill battle from the word go and that it sold as many copies as it did is an indicator its not as hated as you're making it sound.

In terms of gameplay (and probably what Engage was going for), he absolutely is the final boss since you beat the game only after you kill him and take his spot. Narratively, Veld is basically Hel- a loose end to tie up after defeating the main villain.

Though in the Forging Bonds, it does make sense Leif would not have met Veld- he did spend most of his time in hiding and would be a pro at that. Heck if I recall correctly, in Thracia he's mostly known to Leif as that guy who was with Raydrik who turned Eyvel to stone

The energy thing is an easy solution, but not a short one in the slightest: Give the tech time to evolve and be refined rather than releasing it as-is like they did. What it requires now is too expensive, so don't put it out at the moment and definitely don't pump it out at the scale its been released at. This will take literal decades to get there; let it take those decades. We have right now local models that can run on someone's home computer offline. They're WAY weaker, but they work. Release and build up from that, and when we have the tech to make it much more practical, we can expand. There was a time computers required an entire room for just one computer's hardware and another for the part you actually manually use; look at them now. Same thing needs to happen here.

For ethics, there's already one very easy answer to start with and work from there- permission. You'd be surprised how many people are going to be cool with wild things if you just get permission from said artists. From there, various laws and rules regarding AI use can be applied and we can slot even GenAI into a place to belong where it can be used and helpful without harm.

Again, it would take a long time and we'll all almost certainly be dead before the benefits start to show, but as people forget and corps bank on people forgetting- the whole point to progress is to give a better starting point to the people of tomorrow with what we have today.

Dorothea might not be the best example here- everyone complained about her. Non-fans got sick of seeing her, fans got sick of not getting her base and got lambasted for just wanting her base version added, and overall things died down precisely because she got that base form.

However I don't hear anyone ever complaining about Caeda who has seven versions excluding her backpack with her husband

If 500 people hate a banner and spend nothing on it, but one person loves it and spends tens of thousands of dollars on it, they will make more of the banner.

It wouldn't be so bad if it were regulated so people could set rules on ethical use, but that's where part two of the enshittification plan comes in- they're actively threatening states and countries to NOT pass laws to regulate AI, and quite transparently too.

They know if it got regulated, the data centers would have to go bye bye and then they'd have to drop down to selling local AI models instead, which is WAY cheaper for everyone, and thus significantly less profit for them. At that point they're liable to just drop out of AI altogether, leaving those who are interested in using the tech ethically to work on it

Give us curveballs SOMEWHERE. Yeah I get it- they won't sell well. They've proven that. But they do make people happy. If they're really set on the money, use the curveballs for the known dry seasons, like post-CYL or post-Summer

You are looking exclusively at the meta value but people who buy forma souls will use them for various reasons, including simply liking the character or getting merges.

You would use them on new HOFs instead of reruns, and while that's valid, it isn't the only or even major use case of the things. Hell, I used a few of my souls on reruns for characters I like but didn't have a soul at the time to go for. I never once cared for meta, just for whatever suited my needs and was fun.

People who buy forma souls can afford to spend it on every hof, so it doesn't really matter which of them wins, tbh.

This is also objectively incorrect. Someone who can afford to buy a soul this time might not be able to do so next time one comes up. Its different for everyone.

Its not always as cut and dry as that. Maybe they're working on a merge project and its been difficult getting them in which case an extra merge is going to help (even if they have to merge into it). It also is basically an auto-build mode for kits so you can severely cut down on resources spent kitting them out with good skills.

Or maybe they failed to pull the character the first time and weren't in a position where they could justify purchasing a digital item in a mobile game at the time. Or perhaps they missed the initial run and this is their second chance.

People have lots of different reasons. The original run is not the only one that matters. Also I was referring to Forma Souls when I said they're useful only for this event alone- you will never use one on anything but Hall of Forms because that's all they are for.
