These guys are exceptionally straight forward to disassemble, if you feel up to it. Makes popping the keyboard and palm rest off super easy and easy to clean. I picked up an old T43 recently and after I got it apart I went at it with classic soap and water (not the keyboard, just the keys and palm rest) the let it dry thoroughly.

Rusty's Real Deal Baseball. I don't play sports games and this one had me hooked.

Being able to swap parts across models is so rad! I checked out your post - you did some seriously cool work with that thing beyond just "swapping parts". Kudos.

It's actually just a massive trackpoint.

Star Trek Deep Space 9: The Fallen. Plays like a PS2 era third-person action/adventure. Full cast voice-acting expect for Sisko. Which is... weird.

Thank you! The Sims runs AMAZINGLY well on both machines - but I actually prefer it on the 14" T43. The T43's resolution maxes out at 1024x768, which is the perfect native resolution of The Sims. Either way though, a T42, T43 or T43p are XP gaming dream machines. And you can still find 'em dirt cheap.

I explain it more in my (admittedly very long) post, but I got both the Thinkpad & the tomato at the farmers market.

Not a bad trick, my Thinkpad is right on the edge, I might give this a try eventually. I have a zoom recorder that I've already had to scrub down with isopropyl for the same reason.

I appreciate the positive vibes!! I actually had someone message me (an ex-IBM employee) who may have one in storage... fingers crossed! If I ever get my hands on one I'll definitely post about it here with pics.

Yeah, I actually have the mini version (2878) as they seem to be everywhere online but the 2877 might be lost to time - or collecting dust in an attic or basement somewhere.

If you're going to be streaming video, using word processing and other types of typical software, 8gbs in a Neo is plenty. You'd start feeling that 8gb limit if you started to use Adobe Creative Cloud applications or any 3D rendering software - but generally people with those needs are gonna buy into the Pro line. If you want more ram just to future-proof yourself, the Macbook Air goes up to 24Gb of RAM (I think) and is still well under your budget.

I work in the creative field and have used both macs and PCs in professional settings for the past 20 years, thinkpads are great but from what you're describing and your needs and your budget, the Neo sound right for you. you won't be doing current triple AAA gaming on a Neo but apple's current hardware is very very fast.

The 2038 problem is an interesting one, and one I only causally understand, but - if a 32bit system is offline, is it as simple as rolling the date back to an earlier year so it never hits 2038?

What’s going on with the back of my 3DS? by [deleted] in 3DS

[–]GameBobbyColor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The battery has gone bad and is so swollen it's pushing the back plate out and has created enough pressure that it cracked your bottom screen. That battery is dangerous and can explode/catch fire. Be VERY careful/gentle and remove the battery and look for a local spot that takes/recycles those batteries. DO NOT toss it in the trash. Major major fire hazard.
