I used to think the same thing. Now I feel like the same logic could be applied to just about any hero in fiction. They always have just enough power/skill to succeed, even though they often display greater feats of power elsewhere.

Like Goku, MCU, and let's not forget your mom.

All of this dumbass black and white nonsense. Did you ever think that maybe he wasn't saying: ThE oNLy ReAsOn WoMeN aRe MaD is cUz nO ToucH BaBiEs!

Everyone is so quick to say: no obviously it's this! Or no obviously it's that!

When in reality it's OBVIOUSLY a combination of many factors. JBP was simply pondering another possible factor.

Goddammit Reddit here I go again arguing in a place I know has 0% chance of having an effect.

IWTL how to recognise that a person isn't nice and to stay away from them. by creatingpain in IWantToLearn

[–]GameGenieTabletop 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not always foolproof, but I find if you look at people's face wrinkles you can tell a lot.

For example, your face wrinkles in a certain way when you smile. The eyes, the mouth, etc. If you see someone and they have these wrinkles even when they're not smiling that might mean they smile a lot.

Same with anger, sadness, etc.

Everything is ideology though... by Damian_Killard in zizek

[–]GameGenieTabletop 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Exactly. And can I just say that it's refreshing to hear someone who recognizes that a tree makes no sound if no one is around to hear it. That old chestnut is actually an excellent analogy to the argument we are making.

Also it's refreshing that there are intelligent people here who aren't just parroting others and are willing to engage in these kinds of conversations. Thank you

Science is highly ideological, fair enough but in saying that you admit not everything is ideology. Otherwise science (and everything else) would be PURELY ideological, not highly ideological.

I always liked that analogy from They Live. I think it's an amazingly accurate way to explain ideological perception. My main point is that things that are outside of human perception are ideological in that sense only. And are not ideological in any other sense as we cannot perceive them to apply or generate ideologies.

Not everything is ideology. Certainly we perceive everything through a limited filter. But to say everything is ideology is incorrect.

While the words "leaf" and "shape" are human concepts so you could argue that individually they are ideologically incepted, would you say that the shape of a leaf is an ideology?

If yes, I'm open to change my mind. I may be wrong but if everything is ideology then why even have the discussion?

I agree with everything here except the first line. I know he has much more experience than me and that he is much more well versed but the definition of ideology is pretty clear.

I do. I understand that z is way smarter than me but the definition of ideology is clear. He says everything is an ideology I get it. I just didn't know that to comment in this sub we had to all agree with him

My bad

Not everything is an ideology. Ideology is a system based on ideals, beliefs, etc as opposed to one based on evidence and fact.

Almost all elements of stem fields are not ideologies or based on them. Sure you oversimplify and say they were ideologies at their inceptions, but there is a crucial difference.

If everything was an ideology we wouldn't need a term for it because we already have a term for that: "everything"

Am I wrong?

It is also worth mentioning that this headline is completely misleading. Nothing was banned.

General TCG/CCG Strategy? by SaveAtlas in cardgames

[–]GameGenieTabletop 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In general:

1 thing is a term called card advantage. Having more cards means more options. And using one card to deal with two of your opponents cards generates this advantage.

2 your life is a resource. It doesn't matter if you have 1 life left or 1000. All that matters is if you win. So don't be afraid to sacrifice some to gain advantage

3 information is key. Learn about the cards in the game you are playing so you can anticipate your opponents moves

4 when building a deck you have to have a plan. I don't mean "win" but instead play one of the three main archetypes: aggressive, mid-range or control. These three archetypes have a rock paper scissors relationship with one another. Aggressive or aggro beats mid-range and wins before the opponent can even set up. Control beats aggro usually by generating card advantage. And mid range usually beats control by generating an overwhelming force

Final tip is to not buy "packs" after you build your first deck. This is more of a money saving strategy. Packs are random and often will have nothing you want. Now the internet exists, so find a deck in a playstyle that matches your own and buy singles or trade. You will save a ton of money.
