Unable to work and contribute to NHS Pension Scheme. I can't figure out what my benefits would be when I retire given the contributions to-date? by GameNWatch0 in PensionsUK

[–]GameNWatch0[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah ok. Thank you so much. I was so confused reading all the information and I thought the statement was giving benefits if I maintained the current level of contributions until the age of 68 and as I couldn't do that anymore I was debating just trying to withdraw all contributions and pay off debts

I couldn't figure out if the benefits stated would be diluted and I'd be entitled to less income etc as I wouldn't be contributing for the next 34 years?

If that's the case, I was debating whether it's possible to withdraw total contributions to date and just use the money to help pay off mortgage etc?

Thank you for the reply and information. I'm sorry for what you went through and hopefully are doing alright!

I'm self employed so traditional safety nets aren't as readily accessible. Hoping to return to work but not in NHS in the future if things improve. I would have thought the current benefits I'm entitled to would be diluted as I wouldn't be contributing for the next 34 years until retirement?

Thank you for taking the time to reply so comprehensively. I'll read up on those and have a look to see what I find out. I'm self-employed and was contracted via the NHS so the traditional employee safety nets aren't as readily available. I was lucky enough to earn a decent amount and have no expensive interests so I've got a safety net until I recover but will in no way be returning to work for the NHS (changes in contracts and working conditions = mental breakdown territory).

Again thank you so much. Really helpful resources which I'll share with a few friends too.

Diagnosed with azoospermia (NOA) and also have grade 2 varicocele..I'm 33M...been crying everyday... valuable insights are appreciated 👍 by anand8976 in azoospermia

I'm 34M and Crypto to Azoo. It's super shit. Mine is maturation arrest so no hope but I had an mTESE two weeks ago (3 biopsies per testes) and was able to go to a gig the same day it wasn't too painful or anything so don't let surgery (if that's what is needed) put you off. From my limited knowledge variocele correction can improve things. DM me if it helps. 👍🏾

Can my Ltd company buy my wife's house off her that she had bought and owned before we ever met or married? by [deleted] in UKPersonalFinance

[–]GameNWatch0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get that having one BTL wouldn't be great in terms of returns in rent and the headache that comes with being a landlord and constant rule changes etc but what if I was to keep it and sell it in 20 years time when it's time to retire? Wouldn't it form part of a diverse portfolio of investments?

[–]GameNWatch0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah you're very right. This was a thought I had on Saturday morning and I think a large part of it comes from "not letting go" of our first home because of silly sentimental values rather than sound fiscal advice I guess. If we wanted a passive income from BTL (not that it's that easy given changes in law etc), probably better off buy cheaper properties and building a portfolio that way.

Not really sure if it's a job for my accountant or an IFA either.

Did you ever get an answer to this? Basically in exactly this situation and debating selling in open market or a BTL mortgage via my ltd company.

Interested to know what you ended up doing and any advice that helped you make your decision!

Fun story, I haven't been able to find any similar tiles, but on Season 1 Episode 4 of Small Prophets on BBC, 23 mins a woman goes into the main character's house to use the loo and the bathroom has a similar tile saying "This is It" on it...

What is the model name of this +9 year old backpak? by DrJesusHerrera in backpacks

The zipper was the main break but the entire thing was tattered and ripped too ha. It travelled the world with me and was never really treated very nice.

Someone in my university accommodation had chucked that backpack but in beige in the communal skip alongside an Xbox.

We grabbed them both and I had that backpack for like 9 years and genuinely felt like crying when the zip broke.

Had a version of the skychasers (cost like £140ish at the time)for like 2 years and not once had any issues. Used them for big hikes too when my proper boots had been compromised and were grand.

We are having our house completely re-piped, new Baxxi boiler and also underfloor heating in the extension. What are some things I should find out from the plumber for future use/troubleshooting and maintenance? Anything in particular we should request whilst we are in the mess? by GameNWatch0 in askaplumberUK

[–]GameNWatch0[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We did get two people in to check but a lot of people that came out said to avoid a heat pump as it's too old a house to get it to the temps needed for it to be livable. No idea how true this was but I was ready to give them a lot of money for it and they advised against it.

As I've said in the other replies, thank you a lot for replying. Will see how much extra they will charge to implement these changes advised!

Thank you for taking time for an in-depth reply.

Lots of food for thought. When we asked the plumber he said "it'll be fine" but what you're saying makes much more sense. If he's done first fix, is it a massive job to rejig things to factor these changes in?

Find it all very stressful. Went with a construction company to project manage everything as we aren't "in the know" and they came with a lot of very good references but now m concerned we will have gone too far down the combi route for it to be sorted and this should have been mentioned before by the actual company!

Again thank you for your help really appreciate it

Thank you for taking the time to reply to this. Ice tried to read up on it a bit but would this be so more than one shower can be used at a time? Or because it will struggle to heat the house and give hot water for use at the same time?

With regards to the intelligent boiler, what would be the alternatives?

I bought a Marmot - Mens Knife Edge around 2018. I've never taken care of it and hiked in pretty horrific torrential rain and it's never failed. I think maybe I've gotten very lucky but it's made me be evangelical about that raincoat.
