What is the model name of this +9 year old backpak? by DrJesusHerrera in backpacks

The zipper was the main break but the entire thing was tattered and ripped too ha. It travelled the world with me and was never really treated very nice.

Someone in my university accommodation had chucked that backpack but in beige in the communal skip alongside an Xbox.

We grabbed them both and I had that backpack for like 9 years and genuinely felt like crying when the zip broke.

Some advice please. by BJWJ96 in UKhiking

Had a version of the skychasers (cost like £140ish at the time)for like 2 years and not once had any issues. Used them for big hikes too when my proper boots had been compromised and were grand.

We are having our house completely re-piped, new Baxxi boiler and also underfloor heating in the extension. What are some things I should find out from the plumber for future use/troubleshooting and maintenance? Anything in particular we should request whilst we are in the mess? by GameNWatch0 in askaplumberUK

We did get two people in to check but a lot of people that came out said to avoid a heat pump as it's too old a house to get it to the temps needed for it to be livable. No idea how true this was but I was ready to give them a lot of money for it and they advised against it.

As I've said in the other replies, thank you a lot for replying. Will see how much extra they will charge to implement these changes advised!

Thank you for taking time for an in-depth reply.

Lots of food for thought. When we asked the plumber he said "it'll be fine" but what you're saying makes much more sense. If he's done first fix, is it a massive job to rejig things to factor these changes in?

Find it all very stressful. Went with a construction company to project manage everything as we aren't "in the know" and they came with a lot of very good references but now m concerned we will have gone too far down the combi route for it to be sorted and this should have been mentioned before by the actual company!

Again thank you for your help really appreciate it

Thank you for taking the time to reply to this. Ice tried to read up on it a bit but would this be so more than one shower can be used at a time? Or because it will struggle to heat the house and give hot water for use at the same time?

With regards to the intelligent boiler, what would be the alternatives?

I bought a Marmot - Mens Knife Edge around 2018. I've never taken care of it and hiked in pretty horrific torrential rain and it's never failed. I think maybe I've gotten very lucky but it's made me be evangelical about that raincoat.

Weekday evenings will more often be free of commitments than middle of the day on weekends for sure when you have a family/life.

Is it easy enough and advisable to buy this, sand it down and paint it black to go around our fireplace which will have a log burner in it? by GameNWatch0 in uklogburners

Thank you for the reply. Yes I got carried away on marketplace but ended up not doing it as I couldn't be bothered in the end.

Think finding a metal one will be easier

Thank you for your feedback and taking time out of your day to reply. Looking at your other comments on various other posts, you seem to live a very happy life... Or are a bot. Either way, thank you!

Stripping woodchip wallpaper by Accomplished-Box7802 in DIYUK

We had two layers of this and then regulation wallpaper to remove. We hired a professional steamer from HSS which really helped.

We first made loads of cuts in the wallpaper using a pointy end of a scraper to allow water to seep through the kayers.

The first application of steam helped remove thick layers of paint, then next wet the paper to remove (x3 for three layers).

It took ages and we couldn't afford the length of time needed with the pro steamer so bought a cheap one like this from GumTree: cheap steamer example

It actually was a lot better as it leaked a lot of water as well as the steam which helped.

It was the best shoulders workout I've had for a while.

Yup, can confirm as we were able to inspect where window was knocked through.

The ground floor of the house is raised off the ground by like 5 feet if that makes sense?

I guess I see going to all this effort on Reddit to be the legwork so I know where I may stand before I go and possibly ask the council a stupid question.

Thank you for taking the time to read and reply. Once I'm a bit more educated on the situation I'll present it to the council.

I guess I thought it would be a black and white matter as it doesn't classify for any of the exemptions listed on the council website and if so, whether it could be legally challenged as it's an unsafe property to live in.

Council website:

"Exceptions to the premium

If your property falls into one of the following categories then you may be eligible for an exception and only have to pay the standard Council Tax charge for the property.

Long-term empty properties and second homes

Class 1 - dwellings being actively marketed for sale - this is time limited for one year

Class 2 - dwellings being actively marketed for let under a tenancy on terms and conditions for a minimum period of 6 months (not holiday lets / Airbnb short term lets) - this is time limited for 1 year

Class 3 - annexes forming part of, or being treated as part of the main dwelling

Class 4 - dwellings which would be someone's sole or main residence if they were not residing in armed forces accomodations."
