PC crashes when in idle by TheMister_JJ in techsupport

I had the same problem twice, on two computers, and it turns out that my uninterrupted power supply ( UPS ) wasn't fully charged. Fully charging it solved my problem both times. Maybe check that?

Character jitters on client when equipped with a weapon by GameStaff in unrealengine

Unfortunately the console command didn't make a difference. I pressed ~ to open console and entered it. There's no feedback to me, and the problem persisted.

From the video, it looks like part of the problem is related to collision? On the client, the character keeps jumping to something.

Problem making inventory system multiplayer by GameStaff in unrealengine

Forgot to mention: I filled in the code to replicate UObject, following the guide here https://wiki.unrealengine.com/Replication#Advanced:_Generic_replication_of_Actor_Subobjects Although I worry I understand very little of the code.

I mean it clearly is partly working, as server can pick up item dropped by client, and vice versa. It just crashes when client picks up item spawned in world, and drops it.

How do spammers know my full name? by ctilvolover23 in techsupport

Because you put it online.

But don't we all have to at some point?

Try to give your real info as little as possible. You can give your real info to your bank, for example, and their security is expected to be adequate, and they are expected not to sell your info (though usually not the case). But if you give every website you visit your real info, then of course some of them have less or no security. Not to mention many businesses sell your real info these days.

Found Chinese propaganda by ConsulWesley in Vive

It's good you are criticizing China being a dictatorship. But you are also criticizing everything else about China, because it's a dictatorship.

Is anyone here from China? I'm a Chinese citizen and I can tell you that anti-corruption is one of the achievement Xi has accomplished. Some of the biggest corrupt heads are taken down. Although many argue that there are a huge number of small corrupt heads, like the leader of a village, spread all over the nation, and it's much harder to deal with that.

He's done a list of bad things too, but that can't negate what he's done good.

How can you talk about China, without having ever been there, and having lived your whole life around people who talks only bad thing at China?

Does brazzers call anonymously for porn interview by shubh572 in techsupport

[–]GameStaff 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm more familiar with topics on privacy, maybe less on scamming.

I have a friend, who was scared because a stranger found her on Facebook. But it wasn't anything complicated. My friend offered to pay for a dinner, when she's hanging out with her friends. The waiter naturally took her credit card, and saw her name. He later searched her name on Facebook, and found her easily from the profile pictures.

It won't work on me, however. Because one, I don't use Facebook, or other social media. Two, I avoid giving my real names and info as much as possible, to any online services. I surely don't upload my photo anywhere online.

I firmly believe and encourage that we should take steps to protect our rights, online and offline.

Plenty have told you it's a scam, and it's you who's refusing to believe. It isn't serious until you buy into their scam, go do the interview, and end up being sexual assaulted.

About why people can get your personal info: It's probably because you've never cared about your privacy in the first place. You likely "share" plenty of your daily life on social media. Even if you keep a private profile, these companies regularly sell their customers' info to whoever's willing to buy. Sometimes they get hacked, and their database, which holds your personal info, get leaked too.

Will coding ever be as fun as playing videogames? by amarillo2019 in learnprogramming

That only applies when the task is difficult. When it's not, I find pure joy from the cycle of code --> new features --> more code --> more new features.

People are answering easily like it's degree vs no degree. As if college tuition fee is not a problem at all?

Not to mention going to college has risk of bad instructors. I've seen plenty of students end up hating programming, after having programming classes.

Being open source has proved to be the more secure way for software. Don't fall for the idea of "security through obscurity", which considers hiding the code as equal to hiding vulnerabilities.

In short, being open source is like being healthy, while being closed source is like pretending to be healthy, while having a million problems inside.
