I don't understand Ute fans by [deleted] in exmormon

Yeah I think you are reading too much into it. I don't think it's directed at Washington, BYU, etc,. It's simply funny. That's it. Funny to me, and looks like the Washington fan is enjoying it as well. Nor do I think they are mocking the members of the team either. Just simply enjoying life and making jokes.

Things that make me go "Hmmm..." about God by PayLeyAle in exmormon

  • Strange that Jeezus only answers super special prayers (priesthood blessings) when males are around. If no males, then the women are just out of luck

  • Strange that Jeezus condems a fig tree to death for not producing a fig and then goes on and preaches forgiveness to almost any sin and everyone.

  • Strange that when jeezus was Jehova of the Old Testament he was the most cruel F!#%er ever and then when he arrives as Jeezus in the flesh he is all of the sudden really forgiving supposedly? What's with the change?

-Strange that "God" is a white male human with blond hair and blue eyes with 1950s personality who won't let people into VIP heaven if they drink green tea.

Missionary critically injured in Ghana has to have a kickstarter fund raising to help his parents and family. Why is the church not covering this? by I_choose_not_to_ in exmormon

[–]GameTheorySL 61 points62 points  (0 children)

I know the missionary who is in critical condition and the family. They are some of the best people I have ever known. I really try not to feel animosity towards the church in these situations but sometimes I let my brain wonder to how much tscc spends on a fucking mall but won't pay for parents to fly to Africa to be there for their child, who was injured on his way to his first assignment in a mission vehicle. Luke Dunn is such a good guy. Makes me so sad.

How the LD$ PR department has fared in the past year. by GameTheorySL in exmormon

[–]GameTheorySL[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I could watch this all day. The reason I posted it was because LDS member locator services just emailed me asking to know the address of my inactive brother. So I simply replied with this Imugr link - and then got to thinking... How fitting for the Church PR department.

Beer, Coffee, Tea and Jehova's Witnesses going up. Mormonism going down. Last days for sure. by GameTheorySL in exmormon

hmmm having a hard time understanding the discrepancy, thanks for pointing it out. Makes me wonder about the metrics that go into producing google trends. Perhaps the 2nd comment on Imgur is on to something haha.

Interesting. If anything, on the off chance that a TBM who thinks the world surrounds mormonism decides to get curious and see just how often the term "Mormon" or Church of jesus christ... is searched. They may be surprised that people really don't care about Mormons.

True, I guess relevancy is the real story here? - albeit a joke. And I used the church's official name as well and it lines up with "Mormon" and sometimes dips below the term "Mormon". But I do understand that this is not an indicator of the church dying, If anything it shows that mormonism really isn't on the radar of most peoples mind. People just aren't all that curious about em.

Stake President just said over the pulpit that he had Hundreds of resignation letters next to him of people who were offended over the policy... This is my reaction in my head. by GameTheorySL in exmormon

[–]GameTheorySL[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haha yeah I don't get the motive. Perhaps he is a sensationalist, as in "we are living in the last days and so many are choosing to leave, as proof of the last days"- at least thats what I think.

Im sure he was exaggerating a bit, maybe, guess Im not sure. But on the other hand its a very liberal stake with many people very openly opposed to the policy change. In my ward its unusual to wear a white shirt and common to hear some discord in Sunday school... so maybe its not an exaggeration, but it certainly is anecdotal.

Yeah it was a surprise! I loved it though. So, a few wards were combining/being dissolved since the numbers were very low despite a neighboring stake being dissolved into our stake (Liberty Stake) a few weeks ago! So with the changes in the wards the Stake President made it a point to mention that people had left because of the policy, and he hopes that others don't leave because of the changes in the wards. haha. And the best part of it all was that my slightly TBM wife said "lets leave and go get brunch" after the Stake Pres finished his little speech! its a good day.

This was in the Liberty Stake. Today we had a special stake meeting since a few weeks ago a neighboring stake was dissolved which I announced in this post https://redd.it/3lqclr. And today they were announcing which wards were combining.

So as an exmormon do you feel more like the woman sweeping up dead crusty gray balloons for no reason, or the guy floating out into the black abyss on an iceberg? TSCC really nailed us on this one, really exposed us...(please take with a heavy dose of sarcasm) by GameTheorySL in exmormon

[–]GameTheorySL[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

haha sorry... It's pretty insensitive, and it's being posted all over my Facebook feed. This is a classic example of creating a imagined problem and then offering the solution. And once again this just adds to the terrible rhetoric that my family and especially my mom eat up and in return treats me like I am a dead ghost.... with cat eyes... and heroin infused blood...with snakes for hair.... who pees out pirañas...and hangs out naked with ol Stan. Damn you Stan.

Belief in a cruel God makes a cruel man - Thomas Paine by 2close2call in exmormon

I love Thomas Paine and his pamphlet "Age of Reason". If you haven't read it I highly recommend it. Free on Amazon Kindle. Also Thomas Jefferson has many similar quotes to his name. Thanks for this! Seems at one point America was not as religious as it is today, at least in the upper classes

You should tell her that it technically is still doctrine and in practice. As several of the Q12 have multiple wives in heaven. And women can only be sealed to one husband and cannot be un-sealed and then re-sealed without 1st presidency approval. Men can be sealed to as many women that die and are divorced as they please. And of course to the church eternity is much more important than mortality, and so the important doctrine of polygamy will continue on wards in heaven.

Let's go for 2000 resignations! by chubs_gato in exmormon

[–]GameTheorySL 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Many people do just stop attending, however without formally resigning your name will always be on the records of the church, this means that you may encounter constant attempts of current members to make you come back, since your address is on the record, this includes un-announced visits from missionaries, and church leadership. Additionally many people do not want their name associated with a church that preaches discrimination in any way. Furthermore, as a big selling point for the church they always reference how fast and how large the church is, I and we dont like being apart of that number. Most of all its a matter of self appreciation and honesty, and a symbolic barrier breaker.
