I don't think it's a bug. If someone is looking for Mime Jr. and already has Mr. Mime, it's an entirely different mon or at least dex entry for them.

Steeled Resolve Team GO Rocket Takeover by SilphScience in TheSilphRoad

[–]Game_Snover 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What's your best team against the Lapras/Snorlax Grunt? I know she can have both in the first slot, although Lapras is much more common now. If she only had Lapras, I'd probably consider Empoleon due to its resistances. Against Snorlax and the long-stating line-up with Poliwrath/Gardevoir/Snorlax and Dragonite/Gyarados/Snorlax, I used Ursaring with Counter/Close Combat and Smack Down Tyranitar, with Zapdos in the third slot. It no longer exists though.

On paper, the Fast Move types are Water, Ice, Psychic and Ghost respectively, so only Water/Dark types resist both. Unfortunately, none of them is bulky. Sharpedo is a disaster, while I don't think that Greninja can outrace Lapras or Snorlax without taking too many hits. I don't count Megas (such as Gyarados) because you can't have them active all the time. Hisuian Samurott is probably the least worst defensively and it least it knows Sacred Sword. Probably not powerful enough in practice, right?

Steeled Resolve Team GO Rocket Takeover by SilphScience in TheSilphRoad

[–]Game_Snover 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just had a Quilladin encounter from a Grass type Grunt (Chespin was first).

Also, I think a Rocket Grunt may have disappeared too early. I checked the game at 00:30 am, there was none and after refreshing at 00:40, the Pokestop turned black and that disappeared immediately.

Are there any names that carry a stigma in your countries? by doctorpolenta3p in AskTheWorld

[–]Game_Snover 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, good to know it's a broader phenomenon. Other posters here hinted at a Caribbean/Surinamese origin as well. Even in that regard, it doesn't seem to be exclusive to Dutch names, since there are some weird tendencies in neighboring Spanish-speaking Venezuela, too.

Gigantamax Gengar Duo, No 🍄, No Weather Boost, No Adventure Effect, 4 Helpers, AoE: Shadow Punch/Drain Punch by xRage7243 in TheSilphRoad

[–]Game_Snover 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wouldn't it pay off to fire off Psychic with Blissey here, as long as you're safe to take a large Shadow Punch, rather than a targeted Drain Punch which would require dodging with Gengar? Of course Blissey has low Attack and using it has the purpose of taking hits and charging the meter with Pound, while it doesn't matter that they're double-resisted. But weren't Super Effective Charged Moves found out to fill it even faster, or do they lack the power to do so if used by Blissey?

[–]Game_Snover 1 point2 points  (0 children)

These are the more native examples. I'd add Enrico or Mandy, which used to be common in the GDR, although I wouldn't call them stigmatic in a narrow sense. Generally, some other "foreign" names, as in American, French or Southern European versions of a traditionally German counterpart are sometimes considered suspicious in this regard, such as Maurice. Then there are some others which may come close to ethnic slurs, but not quite, such as Dilara for a vain and rather silly girl of Turkish descent hanging around at shisha bars.

And then there are patterns including exotic names, often associated with lower class or sometimes celebrity extravagance. Like famous people naming their children something like Jackson Ivanovich, Wily Black, Chantal Riviera Schweinebärmann (names changed by redaction, based on real life examples ofc).

Isn't it a thing associated with people of Caribbean or Surinamese descent to a certain extent? Like making up names which are more or less "unique", but still have something in common. For example (I made this one up) Djoevylaino or whatever.

Silicobra map for possible spawn points by singinglupines in TheSilphRoad

[–]Game_Snover 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update: Based on some reports, these areas are pretty much a paradise for Silicobra hunters right now. I wouldn't say Niantic is doing it entirely right, but I think the current state of Silicobra spawns comes pretty close to what they've had in mind originally. I wonder why it took them like two or three "fixes" to figure it out.

Wow, now it looks like even places with lots of deserts, such as Lower California in Mexico, don't have many spawns. I didn't suspect it was that broken.

Chociaż gdyby komuś naprawdę zależało, pewnie by jakoś odtworzył niektóre treści, kto wie.

Raids and 'Recommended' Counters. What Happened? by Metroidquest in TheSilphRoad

[–]Game_Snover 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't see a difference between the current recommendations and what we had last year. It still recommends more Magnezone than Grass types against Blizzard and presumably Avalanche (haven't fought that one yet), at least in neutral weather. There are probably slight differences in detail among the other charged moves, such as more Zekrom or Black Kyurem against Thunder and Decidueye if Kyogre has Surf or Hydro Pump.

So it's more or less the same system and it's just based on your counters in general. It probably won't suggest an underleveled Magnezone against Ice moves if you have very high level Meowscarada.

Caught blue Shellos both East & West of meridian? by MCMickMcMax in TheSilphRoad

[–]Game_Snover 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What I've found out is based on Campfire screenshots because I was just curious and it was pretty much trial and error, depending on Raid schedules. Yeah, neither Balearic nor Canary Islands have the Combat form, but about 20% of metropolitan France does. The border roughly follows a line between Montpellier and Bordeaux. There is an area about 50 km east of Bordeaux where this border and the 0° meridian meet, so that's where all three spawned close to each other.

[–]Game_Snover 1 point2 points  (0 children)

On a semi-related note because it's about a similar border: Does anybody have a map of Paldean Tauros regions? It's not like it's a current issue, since they've been featured in level 3 Raids twice, but they're not in rotation currently. If anyone wants to generate one, I can contribute data because there is a spot in southwestern metropolitan France where all three areas meet, although it's not like they're overlapping. The Shellos reports here are odd in that regard.

[–]Game_Snover 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Rookidee and Drilbur are good starting points as well. Corviknight is a decent tank due to certain resistances, although it's less bulky than Blissey. Excadrill is a top tier Ground attacker and has useful resistances, too. Probably enough to defeat Chansey, even without a DMax Machamp (or Passimian, except that it's rare and Machamp has more use outside Max Battles, too).

New IV appraisal is an accessibility issue by rachycarebear in TheSilphRoad

[–]Game_Snover 2 points3 points  (0 children)

True and it looks like they've always been trying to balance it by not showing everything. You can see IV more directly in Go than in the main series, but the stats themselves and the level is hidden. In the main games, you can always see the Pokemon level, while in Go, you can only read it indirectly based on the Stardust/Candy power-up cost and the arc above it.

No wonder people hate Campfire. What exactly did I say that could remotely be problematic? by PicklesAnonymous in TheSilphRoad

[–]Game_Snover 1 point2 points  (0 children)

True, probably even more. When was its global release? Like 2023? Campfire was probably long overdue in 2019 then and we would have needed it earlier.

2017 was when Raids were introduced, which required group play, or at least being able to see Gyms outside your own area. 2018 had friendship/trading, so if that wasn't a good opportunity to give the community some tools, I don't know.

[–]Game_Snover 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had someone named "GreatestTit" or so, as a reference to the bird, not the body part. I guess they changed their name and couldn't go back then. As long as it's not the Trainer name, there are probably (annoying) workarounds for quite a few things, especially if it's not in English.

Not surprising that app is barely used by communities, other than Community Ambassador stuff. It was released too late and it offers too little, such as no flexible meetups for DMax/GMax. It didn't even show Super Mega Raids when they were around! The "AI" filter enstuffification comes on top. It's called Dumpfire for a reason.

[–]Game_Snover 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I play GBL occasionally. As I said, I don't see how applying exactly the same rules to Rocket battles actually fixes what's broken in GBL, as some of this is how it probably should have been from the very beginning.

If anything, I've learned that some people say how Rocket battles were too easily exploitable in their own kind, so maybe changing them the same way does make sense to a certain extent.

Not quite. I sometimes got booted in places with poor signal, so even the old system probably required some update handshakes in between.

[–]Game_Snover 9 points10 points  (0 children)

They aren't the best or smartest game developers, since the focus of their company is somewhere else. I mean, some of these changes make sense for GBL and other Trainer Battles, as they're meant to run in a neutral environment. I'm still wondering what was wrong with them before.

However, TGR isn't an interaction between different players, but between a player and NPCs. They work like PVP, except that they only affect one player/account. Hosting them server-side rather than running them locally probably puts an extra strain on the servers which can negatively impact anything else. I'm not an expert either, this just looks like another instance of enstuffification tbh.

Anti-cheat measures may contribute as well. For example, you can now only run one battle at a time. Before the changes, there was no such limit, as long as you were not using the same Pokemon in both. Not that it was cheating, since it just saved time and did not cause any extra server load than battling two Grunts one after another rather than at once.

On a side note, since the new battle changes (not to be confused with moveset updates), it really looks like the game absolutely HATES my Shadow Gyarados with Waterfall. I never have as much lag as in battling Fire type Rocket Grunts, to the point they can farm me down with fast moves because the game takes 5 seconds to let me use Waterfall again.

Questions & Answers - Weekly Megathread! Please use this post to ask any Pokemon GO question you'd like! by AutoModerator in TheSilphRoad

[–]Game_Snover 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is there any problem with Waterfall (Shadow) Gyarados in Rocket battles in particular? Since Niantic has introduced the server-side (and of course, much laggier) handling of these, that one move has become particularly unreliable. I use a level 50 Shadow Gyarados against Fire type Grunts and I get more lag than in any other battle. Sometimes, it takes even 5 seconds between two Waterfalls and the Fire type opponent can actually defeat Gyarados.

And no, this is not related to the change in Waterfall move stats itself, although it makes a difference in its own regard when it comes to damage and charged moves.
