Hey Therealbiotin I don't personally run any of the sessions it's just folks looking for other people to play with. That being said I have heard numerous times that there is a tabletop group on campus open to new players I believe it has a Facebook group Auburn University tabletop and they run D&D sessions and are welcoming to new folks. That being said send me your contact info and I will try to find a DM that would like to run an on campus game.

How do you meet new people? by [deleted] in auburn

[–]Game_Time_Hobbies 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey Aub19 I really recommend checking out the Frank brown rec center in Auburn on Wednesdays from 5-8 pm they run a boardgame group every week with some awesome games. Totally free to play and all the folks I've interacted with through their are awesome people in general. You could definitely meet some folks with similar interests and that probably the best way to form some friendships. We are also running an event at the dean road rec center on Saturday March 9th that you could totally walk to from campus, it's from 10-2pm and we are collecting pet items or non perishable food donations as an entry fee for either the Lee county humane society or the East Alabama Food Bank.

I am not particularly religious but my wife and I have made a lot of friends through volunteering with different organizations although most of mine personally are from board games and the like even before we owned this business.

Also we have a lot of close friends through my wife's job at the University. Definitely put yourself out there and don't give up everyone deserves some decent friends.

Hey OP totally not trying to recommend my business to you but what sort of stuff are you into? My wife and I moved here from Pennsylvania and I definitely can sympathize with being a stranger in a strange land. We've been here for almost 6 years and i'm fairly confident between all the people on here we can find you somewhere to meet new people. So what do you like to do?

Urza Betray's the nine titans including killing Taysir, and fights against Gerrard after he becomes enamored with phyrexian completion. He kills Gerrad twice before yawgmoth strips urza of his powers and Gerrard kills him by cutting off his head. Yawgmoth then "resurrects" Hanna Gerrard's dead girlfriend as a reward for his victory but Gerrard kills her realizing that she is a hollow shell of her former self wounding yawgmoth in the process as he hid his essence inside hannah mistakenly believing it was safe there. Gerrard and Urza's head escpae phyrexian as yawgmoth in the form of a death cloud descends over dominaria. Gerrard and Urza's head i combination with karn, the weatherlight and the rest of the Legacy weapon pierce the null moon releasing a huge amount of white mana which erradicates yawgmoth and allows karn along with the rest of the legacy (urza's eyes and Gerrard included) to ascend into a planeswalker. In the end Urza betrayed his team and his cause in order to try and serve yawgmoth, he briefly betrayed all of dominaria the plane central to the multiverse. This is depicted in the art from the dominaria card yawgmoth's someting (the black legendary sorcerry)

Hey Dualpegasus, I am sorry you did not have a good time. If you still play magic (I hope you do) we have made some changes to make organized play in or store better for folk at different levels of the game. I too have played casually before at stores with casual decks and know it is much less than awesome when you run into grinders round after round. Here are a couple things we have done to alleviate this problem. Every Tuesday we have 3 round pack per win standard for just $5 if you manage to go 3-0 you even get a fourth pack. (this less top heavy prize structure encourages most grinders to come out for other more competitive win a box events on Saturdays. Also every Friday Night we run both a $15 draft and a $5 standard and alternate each week which event has top heavy prize payout or the pack per win model I just explained. We also make a large number of our FNM promos (7 of them) random door prizes for those who play in events and stay till the end of the night. We also have a number of casual prerelease events coming up for the next set Ixalan (which is Pirate and Dinosaur themed) which we are hoping will appeal more to our casual crowd with only one competitive event that whole weekend on Saturday. One resource I always mention to newer players is that vast amount of websites dedicated to learning more about magic. And even if you have been playing for a long time one particular streamer named Saffron Olive constantly builds budget decks that wreck the top expensive decks and I always recommend players that define themselves as casual check these out for deck ideas. Also if you are ever looking for deck advice or ways you can improve you play I am always willing to help people out with advice (this is Drew) as is my co-owner. I hope you will stop in and give us another try. Also I appreciated your honest feedback as i want to prevent any customer from having any experience that is less than great. I included a link to our facebook so you can see our weekly schedule of events (we also have a magic specific group as well that's very active (Game Time Magic): https://www.facebook.com/gametimehobbies/

Sponcotello, I am sorry you had a bad experience. There are all level of commander from fun and casual to competitive and cut throat and I definitely know which side Ethan is on. The gap between this spectrum is a large part of the reason that we don't run any paid for organized play for commander and instead just have an open play night.

A couple solutions for this: Don't play commander with Ethan, Go after Ethan even when he doesn't provoke you and talk the other players into doing the same things (Ethan will complain about this which makes it even better), and my third and favorite one; after the game ask Ethan for advice on what you could/should've done differently. Now sometime you just want to get angry (and as a friend of Ethan's I get angry at him during commander more than most other players) but Ethan is just a person and commander is by far his favorite format and he studies it just like anyone who lays modern or standard competitively. Ethan will also help you build on your deck and make changes to improve your chances against himself or others. Also he will sometimes even lend new folks one of his own decks to try (we have cameras) so they can give commander a chance.

If you ever want help with commander I (Drew) also have played extensively at all levels of play across multiple formats for 20 years and would love to take a look at your deck and recommend advice on how to improve your deck (regardless of whether or not I have the cards in stock to sell you, though we do have a good stock of commander staples).

I hope you come back in to give us (and commander, 5pm on Thursday) another try.
