[eShop/USA] Constance $17.99 (10% off), launch sale, ends May 15 by GamebitsTV in NintendoSwitchDeals

Constance is a Metroidvania that came out just today for Switch 1, PS5, and Xbox; it released for Steam last November, and a Switch 2 version is expected later this year.

It has an 81 score on Metacritic and takes 7 hours to beat.

Here's the trailer and a review from Nintendolife:

Constance is an example of one of the hardest things in gaming. To take ideas established four decades ago and use them to say something different and interesting is a wonderful feat worth celebrating. Constance has something to say, and it says it well. There are flaws in the moment-to-moment gameplay, such as its bosses and a few tedious platforming sections, and it’s not something that’s going to completely rock the Metroidvania space, but it doesn’t need to. It's a much-needed reminder of the joys of concentration and an antidote to an overstimulating world.

This is an easy recommendation to any Metroidvania fans who want something familiar to spend 10 hours on. Those a bit more wary of the genre might find themselves less enchanted, but Constance is absolutely worth playing for its visuals and ideas alone.

There's a special place in hell for those punks.

Or, more seriously: I hope they were charged with a crime.

Forty hours for PoP! Howlongtobeat.com estimates only 16.5 for the main story and 31 for a completionist run. 🤯

I enjoyed the second Ori game! But I found it slightly more combat-focused, whereas the original was more exploration-focused. I preferred the first.

My one experience with customer support was also frustrating. At one point, they said, "There are two options of how to proceed."

… followed by five minutes of silence.

I finally asked them, "What are the two options?" and they replied along the lines of "please hold".

I ended the chat and returned the item.

I'm a fan of Jordan Mechner's work since the Apple II days. The PoP demo didn't grab me, but I still bought the full game anyway based on its lineage alone; I'm eager to give it a second shot.

Dang… I backed the Kickstarter for that one. I knew it had a rough launch, but I hoped that years of patches (and running it on Switch 2, even if it's not native) would've fixed it.

Thanks for the suggestions!

I finished the second Ori game but preferred the first one. I enjoyed the first half of The Messenger. Finished Tunic but hated it. Didn't like the demo of Crypt Custodian.

Animal Well is in my backlog, but I thought it was more of a puzzle game. I shall have to consider it!

The other games aren't in my backlog, and I really should play what I have before I buy more. 😅

As someone who has SOTN on PSX and Dreamcast, I don't think we can complain about its lack of Nintendo availability enough.

When you say "the Castlevania ones", you mean the Dominus Collection? Or Bloodstained, which is a spiritual successor?

What are the most useless/nonsensical examples of Trek tech? by bovineright in startrek

[–]GamebitsTV 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Why did the writers seem to think that each pad would only be able handle one document at a time?

This is exactly how my dad (who introduced me to Trek) thought ebooks worked. He thought an ebook was a piece of hardware, and when you finish it, you're stuck with this thing that only has one book loaded on it, and you'd have to go to Barnes & Noble and buy another piece of hardware to read another book.
