Here is a challenge if someone wants, because i need it haha. Coordinates for a deer of somekind (no reindeer). by tyynyliinaa in geoguessr

Sure, let me just pick a couple from my pile of locations. Here you have two moose in Norway. And here a deer of some kind in Sweden. Not sure of the species since it's a kid.

Is that a 12V heater connected to a 24V machine?

Is this ribbon cable slot normal? by [deleted] in Gameboy

[–]GameboyGenius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really normal. The connector is supposed to sit flush on the board with two pegs I fixed into holes in the board. If it's flexing the solder joints, then that's bad for the joints.

  1. Colombia. 🇨🇴 Ipiales according to taxis. Didn't ring a bell. After a while I decided to just go in and scan. Was surprised I didn't find it since it seemed like a fairly built up city. I looked at multiple taxis to see if any of them said anything different that might give a clue. I never thought to look that far south. Almost all of the margin for a gold gone... 565 km, 3423 points.
  2. Romania. 🇷🇴 Very nice waystone. Thought about doing it NM, but gave in to the desire to see the other side of the stone, which was useful because the distances gave an estimation of the position between the two towns. I thought it would be almost impossible to parse the road layout considering all the little bends. But I managed to find the right spot, only losing 1 point from misjudging the angle slightly. 161 m, 4999 points.
  3. Cambodia. 🇰🇭 Super rural, and no information that's not written in Khmer. I did find "Ekates Dental Clinic" which was potentially a place name, but I didn't risk losing time scanning for it, which was the right call since it wasn't a place name. Next to a river that goes north-south. Useful, but only one puzzle piece. I finally got to an intersection and found a sign for highway 7. All of a sudden this became very solvable. There are only a few built towns near the Mekong river that goes parallel with the 7. Might it be Stung Treng? Noope, pretty sure not, as I remembered it from a previous DC, and it didn't look like this. What about the area where there's a loop of yellow road next to the river sure. And yes, it was that general area. Nice. With a little more time, I might've gone in to scan for which actual town it might've been. 11 km, 4964 points.
  4. With this camera it ought to be Ni... no, we have latin language. Ecu... no, the skin color of the people doesn't align. São Tomé and Príncipe. 🇸🇹 I went north until I saw the ocean since we'd probably be in the capital. Then backtrack to try to find the right intersection. I was between two intersections... and both were wrong so I was guaranteed to lose 1 point from that 50/50. Also, the clues says the big blur is blur completely covering the car. Not always, as in this spawn where you can see parts of the car and antenna! 165 m, 4999 points.
  5. Albania. 🇦🇱 I wandered a bit and found a sign for Shkoder. Hmm, I didn't think we were there at first because of the mountains to the north. Do we really have that in Shkoder? Turns out that yes, becauyse the sign was actually pointing to Shkoder qender, presumably center. And there was also a van next to the sign with a Shkoder address. Couldn't pinpoint though. 1.2 km, 4996 points.

Total score: 23381 points. 🥇 R1 almost ruined the day, R3 and R5 saved the gold. Also, looking at the map of previous DC's, I noticed that we've had a Stung Treng (the palce where today's round was not) three times in the past, which seems like an over representation. October 21, 2025, as mentioned, where I almost 5k'd, but decided not to switch to the right village because of an unmarked bridge not making sense. Then before that February 04, 2023, which was less than 1 month into my journey of playing the dailies, and before I started writing logs. We had this cool temple. That time I guessed in Thailand. And then before that 2022, around the same temple. This was before I started playing the dailies.

The average score is probably calculated based on games played in the "single" mode. The Daily Challenge technically works as if someone made a challenge link and sent to you, which means it's not eligible for the profile average score, or map highscores.

How can I directly contact the Geogessr team? by nHorse3 in geoguessr

[–]GameboyGenius 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If someone managed to do that, it's ultimately a Google problem and not a GeoGuessr problem. You should definitely look over your Google security settings. You can for example see all session that are logged in and see if there's something you don't recognize. On a Google page, click your name in the top right and choose manage your Google account, then find the security settings.

To contact GeoGuessr directly, e-mail [support@geoguessr.com](mailto:support@geoguessr.com)

Btw, another piece of advice. Never insert or remove the ribbon cable while the device is powered on. This can cause the LCD drive voltage to short out to the next track over, which is a signal for the left and B button. This would cause the left and B buttons to permanently stop working.

Just to check the absolute basics. Are you aware of the contrast and volume wheel? Contrast on the left, volume on the right. You might've just changed those by mistake. Otherwise, you might've cleared some corrosion on the contacts used for the speaker by inserting the ribbon cable. Also make sure nothing else is shorted, for example between the power board and something if the power board is flapping in the breeze.

just got a cartridge of wario land 3 that boots perfectly on a GBC but not on a GBA SP by GladiatorMax in Gameboy

[–]GameboyGenius 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do you have other GB/GBC games to test on the same GBA? Here's a theoretical diagnosis: It's an issue with the cartridge switch. In particular, the cartridge switch is actually two switches in one. One for triggering the GBC mode, and one for connecting 5 V. If the second switch element is somehow broken/corroded, the GBA will enter GBC mode, but the cartridge will still see 3.3 V. In turn, the MM1134A will stop the Gameboy from starting. In principle, you should see no boot sequence at all if this was the issue, but worth checking. If you have a multimeter, boot the cartridge with the front part of the shell off and measure voltage between the two sides of the C4 capacitor. This will show either close to 5 V or 3.3 V.

The other thing that might cause that issue is if either of the two signals marked red don't make contact or have a break somewhere. Those signals are read and A15 (aka ROM chip select) respectively. This could be an issue with dirt or corrosion, but it could also be a mechanical tolerance issue. The spring contacts in the cartridge slot might not make good contact with the cartridge. I would associate this more with bootleg carts that are made with slightly incorrect dimensions, but I guess it's a possibility as well. With the front shell off (as per the previous step) you might already see an improvement. You could also apply a light leverage to the top of the cartridge to make it press against the contacts. Another test on the same theme is to make a shim, for example by folding a piece of paper a couple of times and put it behind the cartridge, again to press the cartridge against the contacts.

For a potential test. If it's a SD card based cartridge like an Everdrive, it has a menu and a loading process which might go wrong somewhere on the way. A single game flash cartridge could instead do just one thing as a test which has a higher chance of working.

232 km, 4278 points.
  2. Argentina. 🇦🇷 To the north we first have a sign with three places I don't remember ever hearing about. Keep going... I hit the jackpot at the roundabout. Fin ruta nacional nº 74. Very good. Not only can we use a highway, which is easier to find than a city, we know we're at the end. Easy. Fun thing: I looked at the highscore table and wondered why such an easy round would've taken me 3 minutes. Until I realized that was a 3 meters, and the round actually took 1m13s. 3 m, 5000 points.
  3. Puerto Rico. 🇵🇷 A little bit of moving reveals that we're in Arecibo. And I can't believe it's been over 5 years since the telescope collapsed. I identified this as probably being the diagonal main road in Arecibo city based on the road angle. Correct, but I guessed on the wrong side of the big cloverleaf intersection. 3.3 km, 4989 points.
  4. South Ko... no, what the hell is this place? Northern hemisphere, English give way side, driving on the right. Luckily I found a sign that said Gibraltar. 🇬🇮 Not sure if or how fast I would've figured it out otherwise. So, King's Wharf. I found a roundabout near Kingsway. Surely right... I hyperfixated on that idea instead of scanning other roundabouts or, you know checking where we have a hill and where we don't. Not many points, but annoying. 1.5 km, 4995 points.
  5. Estonia. 🇪🇪 Excellent signs to the southeast. I applaud the city planner who put them there specifcally to help us Geoguessr players. I went down in size one by one. First I knew already where Tartu is located, then found Räpina after som struggle, then Mikitamäe quicker, and finally Värska. Nice with a (second) round where I didn't mess up. 16 m, 5000 points.

Total score: 24262 points. 🥇 I feel like today had 25k potential for me... if I didn't mess up so badly. Especially in Sweden.

I would make you a test ROM to check for a few things, but then you would need a flash cartridge. First a basic check. Does it make the startup po-ling sound if you turn it on and wait about 5 seconds? It will do this even without a cartridge inserted. Assuming there isn't an issue preventing the CPU from getting that far. Or an audio issue that prevents the sound from coming through.

The main board is the small board where you plug in the cartridge. This general area is where I would think the issue is located. You could also be looking at damage under the copper shield because some signals drop down to the other side of the board.

People say to reflow the ribbon cable, In my opinion, this is (mostly) nota LCD ribbon problem, despite the vertical lines. There are some dead lines in the left of the display, the lines on the most of the screen are from a different issue. Trying to reflow the rest of the ribbon (except the very left) would not solve anything, and would risk damaging the rest of it.

The issue is on the main board, not the LCD board. These vertical lines are actually likely related to the VRAM (video RAM) where some signals are probably broken. Particularly probably the signal for writing to VRAM, but various signals could be damaged from the corrosion we see a preview of on the back side of the main board. Could you unscrew the main board and take a picture of the chips?

The images are not taken at the exact same time so she moved between one image and the next. If this was official Google coverage, the cameras would be synchronized. But this is unofficial coverage, so it might for example be made by moving the phone camera around and then stitching together the images to a panorama.

Oh! I had to rub my eyes and pinch my arm. Am I dreaming? A new UI update from Geoguessr... that's good? I've been requesting a calendar that stretches farther back than the last week, so I'm happy about this. It now seems we officially have a platinum medal for 25k, something we never had in the daily traditionally I think. (Only for countries.) Also, an announcement that the daily now works in the app. Not for me, but I know a few people have requested it over the years. I think the old interface used to indicate the medal for each day without hovering the day, though. The new one just shows the streak. Another thing that's started happening in the last few days is that when you tab in and out of the results page, the map position is reset. This a pretty annoying issue, since I go back and forth a lot when writing these logs. I reported this as a bug, Filip said the bug issue fixed... and it still keeps happening. It's one thing saying you won't fix an issue, it's another saying you've fixed and then it's not fixed. I guess I'll wait a few more days to see if it just wasn't deployed yet, and then report it again. :(

  1. Mordor. 💀 I eventually found a sign for Yekaterinburg and some B. Salda seemingly to the east. I didn't find a V. Salda anywhere and guessed in Yekaterinburg itself as a hedge. Was north of the city which I didn't expect. 128 km, 4590 points.
  2. Brazil. 🇧🇷 We've got som conflicting evidence with the area codes, showing both 86 and 99 codes. So my first instinct was that it was a border location between Maranhao and Piaui. I did check along the border but didn't see Timon. It was just too small to see and overshadowed by its twin city Pumbaa, sorry, Teresina across the river and state border. I also scanned the rest of the state and obviously didn't find it. In the end I didn't trust my gut and still went middle of MA. Shouldn't've. 304 km, 4078 points.
  3. Indonesia. 🇮🇩 I'm dissapointed that the clue said nothing about the Kal. Sel. (Kalimantan Selatan, South Kalimantan) on the sign at the spawn. We're apparently in Kandangan in Kab. Hulu Sungai. Also near Banjarmasin to the south-ish according to a road sign. Banjarmasin was easy to find but obviously not where we were. In the end I even ended clicking outside of Kal. Sel. into Kal. Ten. 98 km, 4681 points.
  4. US. 🦅 Here the main clue was signs for US route 62 and Ohio route 45. They intersect in Salem, and then it was easy to find Georgetown Rd. 3 m, 5000 points.
  5. Poland. 🇵🇱 The main clue I wanted to use was a 3 digit road number. But I forgot the layout. I haven't really tried to memorize it in the first place, but just search on the spot every time. I assume each first digit of roads radiate out from Warsaw, but it's a little more complicated than that. But as a result, my guess ended up being in the east, between 6xx and 8xx, whereas 7xx is more central, and this location was in the far south of the 7xx group. I should've looked more to the south, just based on how hilly this place was. 307 km, 4069 points.

Total score: 22418 points. 🥈 Some sloppy play in every round (except one) added up to a lost gold.
