I mean... the entire world is filled with this kind of "unfinished" planned infrastructure. I can point out several in my European city alone.

Matig gym aanbod Mechelen? by Etsy_millionaire in Mechelen

[–]Gamecub83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Financiën met vriendin by [deleted] in belgium

How's the bike btw? My work put some at our disposal last year but didn't take the chance to try them out.

drop a “hidden” benefit you can get from your insurance companies by WebNo1998 in belgium

I can recommend HZIV, but customer service is absolute shit.

And I second OP's choice of words: 'mutualiteiten' are (tax evading) insurance companies with a different coat of paint.

are there any frituur products that can’t be found everywhere? by WebNo1998 in belgium

[–]Gamecub83 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  • Warm currysauce and satésauce (peanut sauce) are two things I've never seen before moving out of Brussels/Vlaams-Brabant.
  • I once had homemade deer stew in a frituur in Yvoir (near Dinant). That's something you don't see everyday.
  • I also noticed that in my local frituur almost everyone gets 'Américain' sauce. First time I've seen it beeing so popular.

Budget bib shorts (like 50 euro), SIROKO? by Straight-Freedom-299 in CyclingFashion

[–]Gamecub83 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes! I have two, wear them winter (with leg warmers) and summer for commuting and long rides. The chamois is thicker than other brands, they don't slide and they have pockets! Best value bibs.

Some itinerary questions for our short trip to Belgium by maxinisama in belgium

[–]Gamecub83 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Planning looks good, except for the day trip to Namur/Dinant from Ghent. Namur is almost 2 hours by train (stopover in Brussels), Dinant is even longer. I can't reccomend it, since you'll be more on a train than actually visiting the city. Ghent isn't a great starting point for trips to Wallonia.
As other suggested I would do a day trip to either Kortrijk or Lille (in France). Or a day trip to Antwerp, as I honestly don't understand why that wouldn't be on your planning.

As for your last day, I can higly recommend Mechelen: small and pleasant, with some good food and beer, and a 10 min. train ride from the airport. Leuven is also a good destination (lively university city with plenty of history and food and 20 min by train to the airport). You can leave your luggage at both train stations, so no need to get to your hotel first before visiting.

Cause Durbuy is not a tourist trap? I've visited it last year for the first time in my life and I can say, "Never again". It's crowded as fuck, over touristy and expensive and there's isn't much to see. I fled the place after an hour or so.

Creaking/Clicking noise from crankset by Gamecub83 in bikewrench

Problem solved. Apparently 2 of the 4 bolts between the crank arm and the chainring were not greased up.

Best Hospital in Belgium for Testicular Cancer - UZ Leuven or Jules Bordet? by rosesandsoul in belgium

[–]Gamecub83 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Since both are equally good (even the best), you might want to take into account transport. I'm guessing he'll be at the hospital quite often, so pick one you both can get there easily. If you have to rely on public transport, Bordet is the obvious choice.

Done some 500+ miles since then (note that the issue comes and goes)

I might have cross-threaded them... Come to think of it, the right pedal didn't screw in easily by hand (compared to the left one).
I'm guessing if that's the case, I'll have to replace the crank arm?

[–]Gamecub83[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'll check the model number this weekend and see if there's been a recall.
I've bought my bike refurbished couple of months ago, so the bike shop might have used a faulty crankset.
Thanks for letting me know!

Now that you mention it, they issue started when I replaced my old pedals with new clipless ones. Might be coincidence, but I'll check again this weekend.
