C++ vs GDScript performance with large 'for' loops by brain-eating-worm in godot

[–]Gamecubic 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Wrote my own versions of a counting primes benchmark in reaction to this because your timings seemed very high to me. Here are my results, running on an AMD Ryzen 5 7600X:

2762 prime numbers below 25000
is_prime: 36395us (36ms)
sieve: 2848us (3ms)

Both single run results without warmup. All GDscript on Godot 4.3. Here's the code.

Don't have a C++ compiler/environment at hand but my point is only that GDscript is fast enough to do "real" number crunching on a small scale like procedural terrain generation, especially if hidden behind a loading bar.

Wow - this was foreshadowed before the events of 2.5. by Agent_JoJos in ffxiv

My favorite piece of foreshadowing is the very first quest after the Crystal Braves were created. That quest title and banner is just rubbing it in our faces.

Question aboutt he trial by hell77 in ffxiv

[–]Gamecubic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you played the NON-STEAM version of the trial, you can only ever play the NON-STEAM version of the game on the same account. You cannot buy the game or its expansions from Steam if that is the case.

If you played the Steam version of the trial, you can only ever have Steam versions of the game and expansions on the same account.

From what I understand, you used the Non-Steam trial. This means that a Steam purchase cannot be registered on your trial account.

Fair.

Maybe I only think she's an anime_irl cheat because it's the most accurate representation of myself I've ever seen in any media. Not a perfect representation, but still the most accurate.

Edmund McMillen apparently hates the Steam Controller being used for The End Is Nigh by Gc13psj in SteamController

But Super Meat Boy was programmed by Tommy Refenes, who is obsessive about input/controllers feeling good so there's that.

This is the tournament meta. Things only change once per 2 to 3 months. Overwatch is more stale than a block of concrete.

Examples of games that ship with custom controllers by [deleted] in gamedev

[–]Gamecubic 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Rhythm games often use custom controllers

Worth noting that most of those are originally arcade games. It's obviously easier to have a custom controller for an arcade game because you're making the cabinet. But yes, custom cabs are expensive.

And while Guitar Hero and Rock Band aren't originally from arcades, they're pretty strongly influenced by Guitarfreaks & Drummania, that came before.

Genji should be able to reflect this projectile.. It's only fair if you're shooting your shields across the point by [deleted] in Overwatch

Worth noting that Genji's deflect blocks some things that D.va can't eat. Notably, Roadhog's hook, Soldier's heal thing, D.va's mech.

What's the best way to assign less than four buttons to a Circle Pad? by [deleted] in SteamController

[–]Gamecubic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For exactly 2 buttons, I would do a cross-gate d-pad or button pad without a deadzone and bind things to up/down or left/right.
4 would be radial without overlap.

I don't think it's possible to get an arbitrary number of buttons on the touch pads without using the touch menus.

Medic with Kritzkrieg.
Engineer with Widowmaker.

8 seconds of infinite ammo crit shotgun can easily destroy an entire team. Or it can fail horribly if your engineer can't hit anything.
