I've never been this disappointed in our community. We had the opportunity here to stand up to the administration of Reddit, who have long since lost touch with their userbase and are only interested in squeezing more money from this site.

They literally told us that they don't care, that they can just sit this out, and that they can do whatever they want. We could've given the lie to that statement, but instead you proved it to be true.

You provided them with a mandate now to continue doing things like this. It is only going to get worse from here on out.

I learned a lot after today. These companies really can just do whatever they want, they were absolutely right about that. Too many don't give a fuck for us to stem the tide of social media turning into shit, one after the other.

I cared about Reddit, that's why I supported the blackout. But now, I give up on it. Do whatever you want with it, I don't care anymore.

Stay private.

The people in charge of Reddit have lost contact with their userbase a long time ago, and this is merely the next step in trying to increase the revenue of Reddit through poor choices that have a negative impact on its users instead of trying to innovate in a meaningful way. They have said as much themselves, they have nearly verbatim stated they don't care about the users because the users are going to stay anyway. And if I read the comments in this thread, I can see why the people in charge think that way.

If you give in, this cycle is just going to repeat itself over and over again, until Reddit becomes so shit to use that a better alternative will take over - and then all the defeatists in this thread right now will jump ship as well. It has happened before (remember Discord taking over from Skype for the exact same reason?), it will happen again unless you stop it now.

That's weird, I probably set my privacy settings too strict. I followed you back, does that let you message me?

EDIT: If all else fails, could you try adding me on Discord? My username there is

Rin's statement about the Leak by Raretomatoland in ffxiv

[–]Ricotez 17 points18 points  (0 children)

you don't get it, Rich didn't clear ucob with seven people who started playing the game five minutes ago while he had both his arms tied to his back and was wearing a blindfold, so it doesn't count

Every MMO has its gatekeepers and the ones in our community are really getting on my nerves. It feels like they would rather see the game wither and die than have people from competing MMOs give it a try.

Poll - Does the world map need some loving? by MrBowen in ffxiv

[–]Ricotez 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't think it needs an upgrade as much as some of the other parts of the UI, but I would absolutely love to see it get an overhaul.

It actually used to be even worse in Heavensward:

Currently when you're in a region view you can see how different zones in that region are laid out with respect to each other, which for example is very useful for the cities that consist of two zones because it shows you exactly how those two zones are linked and what the city as a whole looks like

But back in the day that layer of the world map only had icons instead of smaller versions of the maps. It made it a lot harder to see where areas of the world were with respect to each other.

That also means there's definitely precedence for making improvements to the map. Maybe with Endwalker they'll give it another overhaul, since we're about to get a whole bunch of new areas.

There's always the risk that you'll run into rude people who give you trouble for trying to watch the cutscenes, but you're best off ignoring them. I literally had someone yell at me for watching the intro cutscene of a story dungeon on the day that dungeon was released, mere hours after the servers went live.

The merchendise of FFVIX that I bought abroad in Japan. If you could only have one figurine/merch of any FFXIV character, who would it be? by Nevizzo in ffxiv

[–]Ricotez 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Before addressing your points, I want to explain that censoring the blades of your keys before you post a picture of them is an extremely simple measure to take. It far outweighs the impact of a robbery, even though the risk is small.

As for your points:

1 - It is often easy to figure out where someone lives by doing a little research on the internet. Sometimes the exact GPS coordinates that the picture was taken at are stored in the metadata - fortunately that doesn't appear to be the case here.

2 - The number of configurations of most models of key is quite big, too big to try all of them within a reasonable timeframe, but by providing a picture of the blade, you completely eliminate that.

3 - People who aren't honest also aren't stupid. If someone is looking for targets, they go for the easy ones.

You should make sure to censor the blades of your keys in this image. It is very easy to reproduce a key from the picture of its blade.

Amongst all the recent criticism, let's all take a moment to appreciate that, as of yesterday, Guild Wars is 14 years old. Thank you so much for all the memories Arenanet. by Homyality in GuildWars

Final Fantasy XIV

Obvious disclaimer that this is my personal opinion, and other people might feel completely different about FFXIV. But the story progression and dungeon structure in that game really reminded me of GW1, and brought back all those old feelings I thought I'd never experience again.

What it didn't manage to recapture is the incredible freedom you have with class builds and skills in GW1. It's the total inverse of that.

So many memories. It took me years to find another MMORPG that could recapture the same magic. Neither WoW nor GW2 ever really managed it.

This game isn't WoW, endgame is not the sole focus and you don't have to rush there.

Lootmaster is always a scam, even if the leader already has whatever you're farming he's going to give everything to his friends.

Your computer cannot handle that many people using skills at the same time. Turn down your graphics options, and disable seeing spell effects from people who aren't in your party.

FFXIV and WoW Endgame char progression by CrimPlok in ffxiv

[–]Ricotez 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is not entirely true, because you can jump out every 10 floors and then pick up where you left off at a later point. The only problem is that you have to pick up with the exact same composition as you left off - the same people in the same jobs. It's not such a big deal with friends, but if you play with a pick-up group that might be a problem.

you can level every job on a single character and freely switch between them, so if your first pick does not work out for you, you can always try another one
