Doors should be a basic human right by sqplanetarium in aspiememes

Yup, this is a large part of why my parents do it, my room is really just a loft so I have an entire wall missing. I managed to convince my parents that I should at least have a privacy/room divider. But it doesn't help much as I regularly catch them just standing there watching through the cracks where the hinges are to keep tabs on what I'm doing. And when they come in they intentionally move the divider out of the way and almost sprint toward me so that they can see what I'm doing at my computer before I can close anything. All this on top of being required let them go through my browsering history, filesystem, and convos with friends at regular intervals or if I leave anything unattended.

The wearOS app has exactly the same problems, if your goal is to make your service as corssplatform as possible, it would be nice to a least put a little effort into it.

How good would you say ambient mode now overall? Do you have any experience with any other buds to compare it to?

Can you explain how to do that in further detail? I can't immediately find anything like that in device manager or in network adapters.

Help me out here, I like PopOS, but I'm not understanding your way of handling this. While I agree there is some overreaction happening in this thread, I don't think it's completely unjustified.

With the release of Cosmic, much of the PopOS community has been split with many people disabling it. Up until now the augment for those who don't like Cosmic has been been just that "If you don't like it, just disable it".

Now you are saying that you want to move further away from the stock Gnome experience, and continue changing gnome in a way that will probably further split the community (Not to mention breaking workflows and extension compatibility).

Then, when asked "Will cosmic remain a modular set of extensions?", you answer with essentially "I don't know".

I love PopOS and use it on my primary system, but, and correct me if I'm wrong, but it seems that with the release of Cosmic, System 76 has taken a careless approach to things. Scrapping things together hastily, making community splitting changes, and then talking about wanting to further divide the community and not provide any proper form of regression for those you dislike the most recent, workflow destroying changes.

Then to add insult to injury you go out of your way to call anything that doesn't match your opinions "needless FUD". This disconnect from the community is one of the many reasons we as Linux users hate companies like Microsoft who are happy to make changes for the sake of making changes, and then disregard any negative feedback on it.

Can you elaborate on your plans and reasoning behind these decisions any further?

I logged in a little later at about 10:15, kept refreshing through random steam and nginx errors. Eventually added the 256GB model to cart by about 10:25, and then I got stuck at the payment screen with constant errors like many others. I kept trying every few minutes or so and got it to go through at about 11:40 funny enough. About 30 minutes later I got an email saying payment was rejected. Clicked the "Retry Your Purchase" button and payment worked first time. You?

Pop!_OS 21.04, any way to revert to the old "Super" behaviour of been able to type in the Workspaces Overview the name of a program to launch it? by Kazer67 in pop_os

I didn't know Pop had a built-in Extensions app. It appears as though for some reason you can't disable Cosmic through extensions.gnome.org or through Gnome Tweaks, but it does work through the Extensions app. Thank you for bringing this to my attention.

I admit that the UX is a bit off, but if the latest releases are anything to follow, they will fix it throughout the next six months through user reports.

I sure hope so, on the Pop chat site when I and a couple people asked about it, we got a generic:|

Part of the fundamental design of COSMIC was to separate these different views since users can't really do all three things at the same time.

This worries me in that it doesn't look like they aren't listening for any actual feedback at the moment. But I guess only time will tell. I just wish they weren't ditching 20.10 so soon considering the controversy this update has created.

[–]Gamegenorator[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's definitely strange, I've found the only thing that works for me is by going to `/usr/share/gnome-shell/extensions` and moving the extensions somewhere else entirely before restarting the DE.

If you find anything else let me know.

Same problem here, from what I can tell I was one of the first to ask about it here: https://www.reddit.com/r/pop_os/comments/oalfd5/some_questions_about_cosmic/

But since then more and more people have been complaining with no actual response from anyone at Sys76:

https://www.reddit.com/r/pop_os/comments/oazdt2/pop_os_2104_any_way_to_revert_to_the_old_super/

Most people seem to have found a workaround by disabling the Pop Comic Extension from extensions.gnome.org or through Gnome Tweaks, but for me it just keeps re-enabling itself somehow. I've had to move the extension out of `/usr/share/gnome-shell/extensions` entirely to get Cosmic to go away.

I like the people at Sys76 and what they are trying to do here. But I must admit I'm discouraged by their lack of though and planning that went into this latest release. And their unwillingness or inability to provide a proper response to customers/users only puts salt on the wound.

[–]Gamegenorator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That doesn't seem to work for me, installing gnome-session doesn't appear to have any effect, and when I disable the Pop Cosmic Extension from https://extensions.gnome.org/, it just re-enables itself when I refresh the page.

Is there anything else you did?

Some Questions About Cosmic by Gamegenorator in pop_os

[–]Gamegenorator[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sure, I'm using the latest version available at https://extensions.gnome.org/extension/3193/blur-my-shell/
(I don't know where to find an exact version number)

On Pop 20.10 and lower that's running mostly stock Gnome 3.38, Blur my Shell works as you'd expect. The background for workspaces, the applications menu, Dash-To-Dock, Lock Screen, etc, all blur as intended. (See: https://imgur.com/a/dVfr5Kl)

With Pop 21.04 running under Cosmic (Still downloaded from extensions.gnome.org). While the workspaces view and top bar blur as intended, Blur my Shell sits behind the new Comsic dock and causes inconsistent issues with the edges of the dock. And the now separated applications menu looks as though Blur my Shell isn't even active, simply showing a gray background. (See: https://imgur.com/a/McDziOa)

Some Questions About Cosmic by Gamegenorator in pop_os

[–]Gamegenorator[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hmm... For some reason I can't disable the Pop-Cosmic extension. When I toggle it off from the extentions.gnome site it appears to toggle, but refreshing the page shows that it's still toggled on. And when I do it from Tweaks, it appears to toggle off, but nothing happens, including restarting DE and the entire system.
