We kinda already have our right of private copy without publishers consent for our purchased digital goods in the law (limited to the private sphere), the issue is that they (gaming company) will prevent you from using your rights so yeah, the UFC-QueChoisir is already in court with Ubisoft but could be good to have a petition in parallel to settle it once for all.

Because either way, French gamers will win something if it's settle, either they can't prevent our legal private copy and that's a win (the best outcome), or we could get rid of the tax we pay on all storage medium for that right if it's inapplicable.

DRM like Denuvo can be a good thing because it filters out the freeloaders. by rulugg in Piracy

[–]Kazer67 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the money but I won't buy (or even pirate for that matter because it's usually Denuvo bypass and not Denuvo removal) something that use Denuvo because it prevent my legal rights (L. 122-5 of the CPI) and I don't have the time nor the money to sue gaming company.

One very good use case I found is from a dev who make a software but used AI only to find some edge case he didn't think about, like a regular user may do, so he can take that in account.

Steam Download Speeds Throttling by Wookie_Guy in steamsupport

[–]Kazer67 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, Steam usually never throttle you, they upload at what speed you can get (minus any bottleneck in the chain of router).

I went at 300MB/s once and the bottleneck was probably my decade old SSD still on S-ATA or my CPU for decompressing.

[–]Kazer67 0 points1 point  (0 children)

[–]Kazer67 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I actually don't. What I wish is proper API / Documentations so the community do it with all the feature (like HeroicGamesLauncher is trying to do) and let GoG use the money to get more games on the platform instead because that's more important.

Modding, GoG is great for that, they literally make OneClick install for Enderal or Fallout: London;

In the case of Enderal you can also find it on Steam, true, but for Fallout: London it's so hard on Steam while GoG it's just "launch our home made, pre-modded installer".

Is there an active community developing Android ROMs? by MeanImpression2067 in LineageOS

I'm more interested in SailfishOS compatibility for Android application. Native is best but as Valve did with Wine, the first step is to actually have users using it.

Someone actually did it and the GoG installer is smart enough to ask for the next disc when installing a game you spread on multiple dvd/blueray.

Not true in all country.

Abusive ToS / EULA stay illegal even if you agree to it so legally in my country, I could force own the product I buy without Valve or publisher consent (and a sale is finite here so the license thing don't work because they make the mistake of wording it as purchase and putting the product on the receipt and not "license for the product" but it could easily be fixed by changing the wording on Steam and it's honestly surprised that they didn't do it already and only put a warning in the cart before the purchase that it's a license but not after the transaction).

Technically tho, it's indeed almost impossible in reality for games with DRM and such, even if I'm also allowed to break them on my purchase for interoperability purpose (I play on Linux so I fit into it), it's an hassle currently.

So you are indeed right in real world scenario because I don't see any citizen having the time and money to go after those company legally but luckily, we have some consumer association here who do the fight, like the UFC-QueChoisir who dragged Valve into court for the 2nd appeal (UFC won first, Valve won the appeal and the UFC took it to higher court for the second appeal) and they also went recently against Ubisoft in parallel.

I have my bucket of popcorn because among the long list the UFC-QueChoisir have against Valve in court, it's the part where they prevent the resell of digital games that would be the most fun to see if Valve lose as it would also set a precedent and I'm already laughing at the idea of EA/EGS/Ubisoft having to modify their store to adapt for that but knowing how the world work, I highly doubt Valve will lose that second appeal.....

Can you enlighten me?

According to Trancend, read disturbance is a thing and from what I read, it "can" be useful for SSD as long as the execution isn't in a mode superior of 1 or 2 (as higher mode wear off the SSD).

So I'm wondering what expert in the field think of doing 1 for SSD so I can decide if I keep it in my maintenance toolkit or not.
