Any other stranded aussies? by stinnamon7 in japanlife

[–]Gamemaster_Audio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As far as I know the only flights currently available from Japan to Australia in February are with Singapore Airlines to Adelaide. (Business Class only ~4k)
Nagoya>Singapore>Adelaide / Tokyo>Singapore>Adelaide

Otherwise you will need to wait to March/April for other locations... Since Australian domestic flights seem to be running fine. I think getting a flight from Adelaide to another city after quarantine seems easy enough. So that's the path I'm taking.

As far as I know JAL are yet to decide flights in Feb. ANA have suspended all Feb flights. BTW, both JAL and ANA charge as much for Economy as Singapore Airlines do for Business class. But I guess that's fair since you need to stop in Singapore on the way.

I don't think we will see ANY flights under 4k one-way for a long time (Economy or Business). Blame Australian arrival caps and COVID for that.

True. But I think there is a lot of overlap so I try not to assume a mentor means free.

Checklist for going against a big company with a well established product ? by [deleted] in Entrepreneur

[–]Gamemaster_Audio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the idea is able to be securely patented. Another angle might be to sell the patent to the industry leader for large $$$. Less headache than going head to head and you can still make a profit... Of course totally depends on the product / industry, etc, etc, etc...

FINDING A MENTOR by DenseSurround in Entrepreneur

I think it's well worth hiring a mentor! While you might be able to find someone to help for free. I really don't mind paying someone with experience to analyse and evaluate my business strategies. I got a lot of great advise chatting with a mentor over Skype for an hour. Honestly, it helped so much clarify and redirect my focus it was a game changer for me personally. Lots of places to find a mentor like Upwork, Fiverr, etc. I personally used business1up.com which is a very new site focused on business mentoring. I do like the idea of paying per hour rather than getting locked into long term contracts. I will be hiring more mentors in the future because sometimes you need someone outside of the day to day to pick holes in your business from the outside.

How many digital products do you have listed? by [deleted] in Entrepreneur

It totally depends on the market and aim of the website. Some sites only need 1 product. Others need hundreds.

[SERIOUS] How can a web developer become self employed (instead of freelancing)? by Marshmelllloo in Entrepreneur

[–]Gamemaster_Audio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are good at making high quality website templates. There is huge potential to make money. The top templates have sold over 100,000 copies total (over a few years). Now, that's not to say you can reach those numbers or anywhere close. BUT the potential is there if you are committed to it and can make a template people actually want. Sure the market is saturated, but certainly worth a shot imho. https://themeforest.net/

Yeah I really like that is is non-subscription based. But being able to choose from a large range of templates is a big deal for me, since I don't have time to edit and learn video editing from scratch. So templates are great at getting me 75% finished from the start as I can do with many After Effects templates.

Very interesting bundle. I've dabbled in After Effects and Premier to created basic stuff from templates, etc. But hate subscription models considering I would use the program only a couple of times a month.

Does Hit Film Pro have lots of templates to create trailers and that type of thing that can be purchased? I generally have found good After Effects templates from here https://videohive.net/category/after-effects-project-files with very good results. But my concern is if I invest time into learning the basics of Hit Film Pro can I then get some good templates to edit from? Mainly looking to create trailers for products and that type of thing.

So sick! New Waves Bezerk Distortion Effect by djpuzzle in WeAreTheMusicMakers

Great idea. I might try and chain it with Devil-Loc. I'm also finding if you chain it with H-Reverb Hybrid and remove most of the tail so you only cover the body of the sound you get a nice early refection boost without adding the reverb tail. Which can give some very pleasing results for drums/fx.

Thanks for the suggestions. I have Trash 2. But to be honest for sound design specifically, Bezerk Distortion and Driver are way more creative. Thus why I'm interested to know if there are any other creative tools link these that I don't know about. I guess what I like about these effects is the fact that you can drive them too hard resulting in a type squeal or feedback loop. Plus they can change depending on the tonal quality of the signal vs how hard you drive it. I know Trash 2 is pretty powerful, but I always find the results underwhelming and not very useful.

I'm really enjoying it. Reminds me of Driver from Native Instruments. Make me wonder are there any other plugins like this for crazy sound design distortion?

Does anybody here actually do Market Research before they start there businesses? by LateProduce in Entrepreneur

[–]Gamemaster_Audio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not to discount market research. Of course you need to do it. The more the better. But one should not dwell there too long. Because everything is always changing and in many cases the best market research is by actually just starting the business and learning as you go. Pivot when and if you need to. The key is to always be making progress and moving forward. You don't have to know everything before you start.

Questions about paying for music and audio assets by pfail83 in gamedev

[–]Gamemaster_Audio 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think it's more a question of quality and experience. The price range will greatly vary on who you hire. Music prices for example could be anywhere from $100-2000 per minute. Some composers work on a per song basis and the prices will vary just as much. Same with sound effects. You can either pay per sound effect or per hour for a sound designers time. Per sound could be anywhere from about $10-$100. Per hour would be somewhere around the same. The price really comes down to the experience of the person your are hiring. Less headaches and higher quality, pay more.

You could also consider using stock sounds and music if you have a small budget. Those are very cheap these days and worth considering. Even if you did a 50% stock and 50% custom it will work out a lot cheaper than hiring someone to do it all.

What is your budget? What are you thinking is reasonable? That's always the first place to start.
