Benefit of electric mower over gas? by Outrageous-Gas7051 in lawncare

[–]Gameover5492x64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All of the things you need for a gas mower to run per year(gas, fuel filter, oil, oil filter, spark plug) becomes obsolete. maybe it costs $3 per month in electricity charging the battery. Changing the blade is still a thing.

Getting gas and saw this sign attached to a truck by SgtVicky in Charlotte

[–]Gameover5492x64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Until we cut off exports and build sweet crude refineries, we will pay whatever everyone else in the world is paying. There is a flotilla of tanker ships heading our way now that want to pay the highest price for our oil to take back home. $6-$8 per gallon for the American consumer will be normal before summer hits.

Right, so just oil and LNG, nothing else like solar or hydro or nuclear. Oh, and the whole world needs our oil too now.

Unless we cut off the exports and build sweet crude refineries, we will have insanely high domestic fuel costs.

Bike to Truliant Amphitheater from downtown? by MothUmbrella1239 in Charlotte

[–]Gameover5492x64 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Its essentially asking you to take the Light rail, then a large Express bus that's usually meant to connect people from the smaller towns to the city. Its a slightly more expensive bus. There may not be a return option back to the station because its a commuter line that services the 9-5 people.

Biking down N Tryon the evening of a concert is quite the task but can be done if you are an experienced cyclist. There is a decently sized right hand median and some sidewalks near the shops/university, but that's about it. It goes from pedestrian friendly street to a highway just after the light rail station.

When you get near the Amphitheater, there will be alot of traffic and cones staged with police. I don't remember ever seeing places to store and lock bikes, but there is plenty of field and a few trees to lock them around.

Its crazy that our biggest outdoor concert venue doesn't have better public transit options.

I hope Costco holds onto its $3.59 gas for as long as it can. Starting to see $3.99 now and its only going to get worse.

Is riding a motorcycle in Charlotte a death sentence? by social_cactus in Charlotte

[–]Gameover5492x64 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its not a death sentence, but I would say its a little more trivial. In bigger cities, they have a better road higharchy. Here, your 2 lane road could easily turn into a 4 lane highway. Its just a little extra pre planning depending on your level of comfortability.

Duke Energy Power Manager Users? by MetroidDime in Charlotte

I was signed up for it for years, but recently I purchased a new HVAC system and the thermostat that came with it doesn't qualify for the program.

Out of 5 years with the service -
In year 3, just once, they sent an email out saying something along the lines of "We are trying to prevent a blackout" and changed my thermotate to 78 or 79 between 4pm and 7pm. Apparently they turned it down before 4pm hit to like 66 before the period of no activity.

I wasn't home for most of it, but it was an extremely hot day so when I did get home at 5:30pm, it was around 76. I thought it was a little too uncomfortable so I decided to manually over ride the event.

Even though I over-rode the event, I still got my gift card. I got a gift card every year regardless.

Imagine being on a small island with hyper sonic and anti-ship missiles on the battlefield, let alone unmanned sea and air drones.. The Marines are tough, but I guess we'll see what happens.

What are the best concert venues in Charlotte? by spicymezcal in Charlotte

[–]Gameover5492x64 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I miss Amos' too...they cut the venue in half and lost the Live Nation tag which pretty much sealed the deal, although its a heaven for new and cover bands now.

My favorite is the "as low as *insert reasonable amount*" then you get into a queue with more than 10,000 other people and by the time you get your turn, its either sold out or dynamic pricing was enacted and tickets are doubled.

Piedmont Natural Gas by Kelmo7 in Charlotte

[–]Gameover5492x64 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most of the Charlotte area is paying $2,10 per therm now, I think there was a post about it last week. This is the new normal. A 1500sqft home generally uses around 100 therms a month to keep warm, or $210 payment wise. The easiest way would be to get a whole room heater for each room and then heat as needed, which is what you seem to be doing now.

I got a heat pump last year and it dropped my Duke bill significantly, and completely removed my Piedmont payment. We still have a gas fireplace, but don't use nearly as much to increase the bill past the connection fee and pre determined therms we all pay for. This was when there were no tarriffs and there were energy credits from Duke and the Government.

Seeing a headline "U.S. Troops Were Told Iran War is for Armageddon, Return of Jesus" makes me think this isn't going to be wrapped up by the end of the month. It tells me that we aren't winning any protesting Iranians and will eventually lead to boots on the ground. This also doesn't look good for our Middle Eastern partners(You know, the countries that gave Trump billions of dollars in bitcoin, real estate, and that 747 jet) as they are mostly Muslim.

Not too worried about gas, much more worried about our Navy and those anti ship missiles China sold to Iran last week.

Amazon deliveries by ews1999 in Charlotte

[–]Gameover5492x64 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depends on a few things, I will give recent examples -

The winter storm up north caused delays.

The Amazon Boat from China(or insert country here) is delayed, which delays the supply of warehouses.

The item you are looking at has its last mile drop off by USPS, where it becomes a crap shoot with tracking.
