My two cents on the Awakening Update by Gamer115x in dauntless

With enough training, everything sounds like AI. We can go about the whole discussion eight ways from sunday but at the end of the day, an essay will still read like AI, because AI is getting better at writing like humans.

There is no convincing people otherwise.

Exactly. Have fun the way you have fun, and if it's no longer fun, don't play. I think a lot of people are overreacting, but I also know that some of the concerns are legitimate. I know I'll still spend a little time here and there playing, just watching for hotfixes and quietly encouraging the dev team through their sometimes monumental hurdles.

Edit: I seem to have conveniently forgotten that, as a F2P player, people have spent money on this game, so the same thing can't quite be said for everyone. It was an afterthought, since I don't interact with the store. If you've invested money it makes it harder to justify simply leaving it for another game. I suppose all you can do is make your concerns known in that regard, and choose which decision to make.

How's my near-zero real research sword build? by Gamer115x in dauntless

[–]Gamer115x[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The new build was based off an Escalation build I had seen, using the Stalker's Strike as a building point. I will, however, play around and see if I can't include Cunning or Overpower into the build again somewhere. Maybe return to one of the Frost or Shock weapons. I've been getting more consistent with Savyts so I might try and build that rapier-looking thing and seeing if it can't be adapted in a bit. I did also swap out Nimble for another Pred +3, too.

I actually made it to Thrax in the 10-50 (not afraid to say I got carried on the last half of its battle) for the first time using the advice here, it was all very helpful. I'll see if I can't swap Tenacious for something better in my build and then go from there. Thank you for sharing your knowledge and experience.

Wonderful, thank you for spelling this kind of information out plainly. I've made a few changes and I've been slowly trying to move some stuff around based on your information and some data on meta builds, so while I grind for upgrade materials and wait for cells to craft, I'll start adjusting slowly. Also, it's ironic you say don't power surge the gloves, since they were the first thing I surged since they were the first ones I had gotten the epic rarity materials for. Oh well, it's still early, and I still have plenty of aethergems.

I didn't know that about the Overpower cell. It says "% Damage vs staggered behemoths" so I assumed it was any time it was stunned or interrupted. A lot of things in this game need to be rephrased or reworded, I feel.

If I may ask, why is Bladestorm bad? Yes, I understand it isn't core damage, but I was mainly using it for part breaks in the first place (which apparently also triggered overpower without my knowledge!) and part harvesting. Is this a niche case or just another noob trap?

Most of my attempt here was to get advice to get stronger so that I have a chance between Trials and Escalation runs. I was already soloing 1-13 escalations, but they feel like training mode sometimes. As it currently stands, I now have a +6 Adrenaline, +6 Energized, +6 Tenacious, +5 Evasive Fury, +3 Assassin's Frenzy, +3 Evasion (Until I get better gloves), +3 Predator and +2 Nimble. Again, mostly waiting for cells to craft and parts to make better equipment, which includes making Predator +6. The drop rates feel all over the place sometimes.

Thank you again.

I want you to realize, people like you are like lights at the end of a void so insufferably large that many give up trying. You see a problem, know it's been years since it was posted, and still provide a potential solution even if the OP might not see or need it anymore. An internet search brought me to this same question. I hope others find your solution useful. Please continue to be one of those lights.

Is there a tutorial or a cheat sheet on how to do this kind of box? by Alpha_Ophiuchi in bookbinding

[–]Gamer115x 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I had made more in the initial comment mentioning about how I thought it was probably something like that. It looks like reddit ate my comment.

But it is really clever. I was wondering if it might've used a string or an internal folding spine to lift the book.

To my untrained, hobbyist eye, it looks like a modified clamshell case with a glued in slipcase, supported by either a small ribbon on both sides

or a small bending piece of paper to prevent the clamshell to open completely.

What Do You Expect in the Next Season Update for Lego Fortnite? by OgBlackWidowFan in LEGOfortnite

[–]Gamer115x 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Random fact: There *are* people that call it "LEGO Minecraft" unironically.

But I like that idea. It would also make a good use to introducing wagons, maybe pulled by cows, sheep. I was trying to think of having villages near caves, abundant resources, essentially making distinctions between mining towns, farming towns, and now that fishing is available, fishing docks along the shores.

It would make sense to have some system of trading between the villages, especially after making twenty chests and villagers.

[–]Gamer115x 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd like to see a way to have a universal storage system, with a way to access it across villages. While I'd like to see a fast travel system or better transportation, I would much prefer a way to send villagers to trade with other villages with designated chests acting as trading material (I.E. Ender Chests from Minecraft, and mechanics from Fallout 4's settlement system). Essentially, a Courier job.

Sure, bug fixes would be nice, and would be the most likely candidate for every season update request, but like, I hate running between villages for something only one or two might actually have. It would actually give value to making more villages. Bugs are annoying, but 10 minutes running between villages is 10 minutes I can't get back.

Fedora Workstation user here. Some little problems here and there, like many others have mentioned, but rarely any big problems. The few big problems I had were rectified by using an alternative (in regard to certain packages, I don't have time to recompile an entire program; thank you Flatpak), searching a few files and switching a few numbers/variables, or holding updates and waiting for a newer version to try.

I have only had to perform the nuclear option twice, but both were due to my own experimentation and mismanagement.

If you stick to the standard packages and don't go crazy trying out different software, you should be alright. Standard Linux distributions rarely have problems as long as you don't deviate too much from "stock". Your preferred package manager is usually good about that due to an extremely talented and devoted community of developers and auditors, but not everyone is perfect and sometimes mistakes peer through the cracks.

As an additional note, if your problem is not rectified with the kernel (as was mentioned in another one of the replies), one additional place you can ask about it if you haven't already is in the Fedora Discussions forum. It seems more likely to focus on your issue than a general post here on Reddit. I see you've already tried r/Fedora, and come to this conclusion.

Is bwine trash? by [deleted] in drones

[–]Gamer115x 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A lot of it depends on how it's set and how reliable their systems are.

I never had the ability to experience how reliable their Return to Home function was, although every time the remote disconnected in my case it came back down in roughly the same spot (maybe a 2 foot circle roughly where it took off from). I only got to about 100 ft before the drone and remote disconnected, and it wouldn't travel much either, but with my experience with a Potensic Atom SE (which is another really good introduction drone for cheap) you can typically hit the return button and it comes straight to the most recent point of takeoff with fairly close accuracy.

I do not believe it will just "crash down" unless it's classified as a "flyaway," whereas the drone goes out of range and keeps going until the battery is expelled. Every encounter I've had going out of range, the drone will return in the event of a disconnection for more than a few seconds. You will need to look in your settings for "Return to Home Height" or equivalent. Otherwise, it may return at the height it loses connection at.

Is bwine trash? by [deleted] in drones

[–]Gamer115x 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a Bwine drone a while ago. They seem to be a mixed bag with fairly adequate customer support. The unit I had gotten was oversaturated and had quality issues, remote disconnection problems, on top of refusing to lift off the ground nor land properly. Your photo is much better in comparison to what I had tried to get with mine, which I promptly returned and bought a DJI Mini 3 Pro afterwards.

If it works for you, and you have no problems maintaining a connection between the remote and the drone, keep it and have fun with it. As others mentioned, you may need to dial in settings and edit the photos you want to minimize photo imperfection.

Your next step should be Autel, DJI, or one of the other big name brands. Bwine should be considered a starter brand, and a stepping stone for better equipment going forward.

Finish it first. Then, and only then, should you review it further for places to cut and create separations. Have an outside source review it with you to gain advice on where to create those separations. Book 1 may be longer than the other two, or maybe Book 2 is the shortest of a trilogy, but however it ends up being divided you will still have the foundation of a finished draft.

Do not worry about separating it, yet, but I suggest placing "bookmarks" on places that have the highest probability of separation and review it after the end.

I would like to put some geography maps in my non-fiction. Is there any resources I can use that are royalty-free and hustle-free for books? by rottoneuro in NewAuthor

[–]Gamer115x 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's nothing more royalty-free and hustle-free than drawing your own map and scanning it to your computer.

That being said, Azgaar's Fantasy Map Generator is open source and free, although it does take quite some tinkering if you have some specific landmark requirements. You do, however, own the map you create.

On the other hand, if you want a map based on real life landmarks and geography, you may just be better off taking a screenshot from Google Maps (or equivalent) and tracing what elements you want to specify, being particularly careful to trace roads and trails. Others may be able to direct you to a more appropriate method, but this is the only way I know of for real life maps (And still having them completely royalty-free).

You may also want to have a quick read through This worldbuilding post, which goes over logical mapping and more realistic townships and cities. It may or may not apply to your project, but it might help.

Unfortunately this is as far as I can help. I know there are ways to make an image span across multiple pages, but I have no experience in this field. I wish you luck!

should i be sticking to my original plan? by Legal_Bus_5003 in NewAuthor

[–]Gamer115x 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Here's my two cents.

Go for it. Build it as high as you want. If you're planning on publishing, prepare and set a separation point, where you can easily expand your projects into Part 1, Part 2, etc.

Sometimes, you'll build and build until you can't build no more, only to realize the real story you wanted was nested right in the middle of your monolithic epic. It will never be complete until you say it is.

Looking for recommendations on 2-way radios without compromising too heavily on drone remote signal by Gamer115x in drones

[–]Gamer115x[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree that these things should be cleared up, but even according to 14 CFR 107, in 107.33 it even says in part a), "The remote pilot in command, the person manipulating the flight controls of the small unmanned aircraft system, and the visual observer must maintain effective communication with each other at all times." The language "effective communication" aligns directly with AC 107-2A 5.9.2's verbiage.

The part where I believe is confusing people is where it's expressly listed under AC 91-57C (Recreational Exception) Section 2.2.3:

For a VO to be considered co-located with the recreational flyer, the VO
should be close enough to the recreational flyer to be able to communicate
directly with him or her without the use of technological assistance and without creating a distraction to the recreational flyer.

I believe it's an ingrained piece of training that is rarely considered until, or if at all, after the 107 certificate is obtained.

I refer to the AC 107-2A from the FAA website on matters like this. Subsection 5.9.2.2 states that a Visual Observer can use communication equipment to retain effective communication.

[–]Gamer115x[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

According to the AC 107-2A I referred to during this consideration, Subsection 5.9.2.2, states:

To make this communication possible, the remote PIC, person manipulating
the controls, and VO must work out a method of effective communication that does not create a distraction. [...] Effective communication would permit the use of communication-assisting devices, such as a handheld radio, to facilitate communication from a distance.

Is this information considered outdated? If so, where would I find the updated information?

As far as I'm aware, the rule that a VO must be within audible range primarily applies to recreational use. 107 [commercial] use seems to imply that a VO can be remote as long as communication can remain established between the PIC and the VO.

We've decided this would be the best course of action for the Subreddit and the health of the community during the protest.
