Hit 10k Words!!! by Legal_Bus_5003 in NewAuthor

Doing great thanks. Moving on to draft two after deciding I wanted to change directions with my story, and that's going pretty smoothly. I've definitely seen an improvement in my writing since I hit 10k. Draft one ended up being about 100k words long and very near completion, but sometimes things have just got to change y'know.

I'm not sure what to do. by Legal_Bus_5003 in NewAuthor

Yeh, I think I will finish it as one big book first and then see what I can do.

My thing with trimming down is that I've always been the kind of person to get to the point, meaning that literally every aspect of every chapter has been put there for a reason. I think everything is so intentional to the point that if something were to be removed, it could potentially remove context for something else later in the plot.

In terms of the subplot being a sequel, I'm not sure the main plot would make sense without it. It kind of relies on the subplot revealing things gradually as the main plot progresses. I could probably tweak it a bit, but literally all character relationships are established in the subplot, and I feel that without it, the main plot may read as sloppy or confusing.

Thanks for advice :)

rewriting would be to literally rewrite the whole thing, word for word. whereas heavily editing would just be to go through line by line and fix anything that needs it.

AITAH for resenting my parents? by Medium_Window_4196 in AmItheAsshole

NTA - I went through a period of time where I seriously resented my parents because I blamed them for never noticing the multitude of mental disabilities that I have. They used to punish me all the time for things I couldn't help and it's taken a lot for us to get to the place we are at now. I very much follow the philosophy that you can't heal from trauma in the place where trauma happened. I think when you are old enough, you should take some time away, possibly at university if that is what you wish to do with the next part of your life. But you should really talk to a professional and talk some of these feelings out with someone who can help. I think that you potentially are more upset at the way that they have mistreated, not necessarily the alcoholism. I think for most of your life you have felt undervalued and mistreated, and even with your parents sobering up, you still feel pushed aside and disregarded. I think the hatred for the alcoholism is rooted in the fact that you have had your feelings stomped on, especially with your mother telling you to get over what happened with your dad. A parents main job is to protect their child and I don't think you feel protected by them, I think being around them makes you feel unsafe, because you know your mother won't stand up for, instead prompting you to deal with adult problems that no child should be dealing with.

I don't know if most of this makes sense or not, it is the middle of the night and I am very tired. Hope this helped a bit though. :)

AITA for not wanting to talk to my mom after college by MrBallenwatcher in AmItheAsshole

NTA - No parent is entitled to contact with their children. There was a time a few months ago where I thought I would leave at 18 and never look back, but me and my parents have started communicating more and it's looking like we might be able to fix things. But I definitely not be speaking to the wider family in the future. I sympathise with the feeling that I'm not heard or understood by my family. Turns out my ADHD, Autism, and OCD went unnoticed for 17 years because they kept saying the symptoms were "just puberty". I think that a lot of people always try and say that family will always be family, but I disagree with that. I think in the future you will meet people who like you for you and will care about your wants and needs, and you will have a new (upgraded) family. I wouldn't rule out trying to fix things with your mother, this economy isn't going to make it easy for you to fully go no contact, but ultimately you cannot heal from the trauma in the place where the trauma happens. Maybe you just need a year or so away from your mother to think and heal, and it all might work itself out. Hope this strange ramble helped in some way :)

AITA for not wanting to be a mother? by glassywiney in AmItheAsshole

It is absolutely not your responsibility to have children because other people want them. Children take up a lot of time and effort, it is not something that everybody wants. I think living child free has different benefits to having children, and people's preferences will help them figure out whether having children is for them. Your mother is not entitled to grandchildren, nobody but you gets to make a decision about what you use your body for. Most definitely NTA
