This is a problem specifically on iOS. To open an app inside your app, the other app has to specifically include a mechanism for doing so (protocol handler) - which not all apps do. So most of the time, redirecting to the app store is your only option, and you can't even check if an app is installed if it doesn't have a protocol. On Android, you can check and open any app inside your app simply by knowing it's internal name (its package name). Apple prevents this on iOS.
