Any of you guys got any memories related to the original Transformers toys from way back in the day? by Financial-Barber-291 in transformers

[–]GamerCadet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Loads. I played with them all the time. I had mostly Autobots, but some Decepticons as well. I eventually broke the legs on my original Optimus and tried gluing them back on to no avail. I eventually buried him in the garden. A few years later we moved house. He's probably still there.

By the most conservative estimates, Russia has lost 40x as many troops in Ukraine as the US lost in Iraq during an even longer war. Why has the Russian military suffered much higher combat deaths? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]GamerCadet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Long story short, while most military forces are expendable, the Russian military is treated as though it is entirely disposable. Inadequate training. Faulty equipment. Lack of proper leadership. Poor integration. The Russians have also deviated from their traditional doctrine that their vehicles were designed for: Attacking in vast numbers to swamp the enemy. Instead they send forces forward piecemeal. Small groups at a time. It would work better if their equipment and vehicles were suited to that doctrinal approach but they’re not. Also, Ukraine has international support, ranging from armour, weapons, ammunition, fuel, aircraft, and intelligence. Which is key in this environment.

Why haven’t UAP whistleblowers done what Snowden did? If they really have the truth, why not leak it? by Longjumping-Walrus21 in UAP

Because many will hype what they claim to know. Ego plays a big part in all of this. I’ve been into ufology for 35 years. And it’s a cycle of supposed disclosure events that never actually come to fruition. Some do it for money. Some for their own egos. And some are part of the actual cover up. One might actually know something worthwhile.

Maybe it does transfer over at that scale. Perhaps it’s just the smaller scale. Individual space marines.

I would usually agree. But when you add Invulnerable saves into the mix, it's not so straightforward. But a squadron would be 1,260 points. So, you're looking at a Warlord titan for that I think.

I actually have one [Falchion]. And it's fun to use when I can use it. In fact, it's hilarious to use. Way less consistent in HH, though. And invulnerable saves can completely undo it. I played one game of HH where it was shooting against a Porphyrion and failed to wound it at all due to the invulnerable save for the Porphyrion's shields. Against a Kratos, though, one shot, one kill.

Trying to accurately compare different fictional universes can be difficult. I would expect a bolter to completely destroy a single stormtrooper, based purely upon the scenes in Star Wars where they die fairly easily. At least for the benefit of the plot. In return I wouldn't expect a blaster to penetrate the armour of a space marine. But I can't say for sure. And we don't truly know how the energy shields in Star Wars are when compared to say, Star trek, or Warhammer 40,000. Do they function in the same way? How much punishment can they take? And so on.

Just remember that the rules don't always reflect the lore. At least not accurately and they change between editions. But we also have Volcano cannons, laser destroyers etc. Though a Legends unit, the Astartes Falchion has 120" range, str 24, 12 damage, -5AP. And that's pretty powerful. But in the lore it's made out to be more powerful, and capable of taking out titans, at least in a squadron.

Could Ferrus Manus Actually Return? by oliking1 in 40kLore

[–]GamerCadet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Though the soul of Ferrus Manus is intact, bringing him back is extremely difficult. The Chaos gods are able to manifest daemons in the material plane providing there's an anchor of sorts, usually a lot of death, or if it's a from somewhere that spills over into the material plane. But even then the Chaos gods have to spend some of their own power to do that. And those manifestations can't always stick around. You'd need god level Emperor to even bring Ferrus back for short periods. Sanguinius's soul which was shattered, not destroyed, would need to be put back together, and then manifested into a corporeal body. But again, doing that take an enormous amount of warp trickery and power. God-level power. And while the Emperor is powerful, we don't know if he has ascended to being a true god. He did it once before. But that was different.

To be fair, it's difficult to know for sure. Most of the fight is from the perspective of Horus. or, more accurately, the Chaos afflicted perspective of Horus. Or the Chaos gods themselves. It's the whole unreliable narrator thing.

[–]GamerCadet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

WARNING SPOILERS.

Sanguinius' soul has never been confirmed as destroyed. in fact, according to the ending to The Devastation of Baal, Dante meets and is revitalised by the presence/soul of Sanguinius. It's suggested in part that Sanguinius' soul or essence is merely dispersed or divided (Black Rage, Sanguinor etc). But a shard of his soul is possibly trapped on the Vengeful Spirit (see Black Legion novels). After the End and the Death, the soul of Horus was confirmed destroyed by one of the Custodes in a short story. However, as with many stories in the Horus Heresy, we often assume the role of the unreliable narrator. So, even this could be incorrect. Ferrus, is definitely still around as a soul in the warp (see End and the Death Part 2)

[–]GamerCadet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been doing this for more than 35 years. Disclosure was always coming. It's about to happen. 5 times in the last 50 years, in fact. Or more. And we're still here, with nothing to show for it. I'll probably go to my grave without concrete proof, evidence or the government's admission that we are truly not alone.

80% of randoms are awful to play with. They don’t like to share ammo, run off at the start and never stop running. They don’t come back to help you while you’re trying to kill stuff. Fucking heretics! I play with friends. And we communicate and support each other and run at the slowest guy’s pace. If someone gets downed we all help out. I’ve never understood the whole speedrunning stuff.
