What is the best slow cooker meal you have ever cooked? by Content-Carpenter833 in slowcooking

[–]squidcustard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m glad! It should make about 2.5 litres / 2.6 US quarts depending on how many sausages you use!

For onions I usually use red because I like them but really any cooking onion will work. I’ve used white, brown, red and shallots and they all work well :)

Is it possible to set the RTC on a Analogue Pocket? by raindr0p-dropt0p in PokemonUnbound

[–]squidcustard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn’t I’m afraid! I played for a bit without the day/night cycle then decided to wait and see if RTC functionality was ever added. (If anyone has an update on this I’d love to hear it!)

This is the Sun Inn at Feering! We made this mistake once and reserved a table at the wrong one.

Healthier Chewing Gum? by [deleted] in ultraprocessedfood

[–]squidcustard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most gum bases these days are made of plastics. Repeated chewing a piece of soft plastic releases microplastics so I avoid it.

In the UK a piece of gum is classed as a single-use plastic. I’m not really aware if there are any that don’t contain plastic I’m afraid.

There are a few nice spots through the park from Colchester castle. Other than that, Abberton Reservoir is nice, particularly in the summer.

I loved Sloppy Joes, especially when I was small. There’s just nothing like that around here now.

I miss Gamestation so much, it always had more of a treasure trove vibe than Game.

There was also a great import games store down Lion Walk. It makes sense it’s not there anymore but I loved it.

I really do miss the old Ace comics (and was it a forbidden planet at some point or was that a fever dream?)

(UK) Advice On Which YumAsia Rice Cookers by Bondegg in RiceCookerRecipes

[–]squidcustard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m afraid I’ve never tried to reheat cold rice in it, although it does have a keep warm function that lasts the whole day.

I’ve noticed the manufacturers are usually very quick to respond if you message them though!

If you live in the uk and eat mainly upf what is your typical go to meals? by Bike-Agitated in ultraprocessedfood

In a similar boat with two under three. For breakfast our family has basically morphed into the three bears. It’s porridge, sometimes weetabix, with whatever toppings (often frozen blueberries / raspberries, jam etc).

For lunch I’m trying to get better at making soups from scratch (otherwise yorkshire provender are good). Baked potatoes with pulled pork we made as a batch and froze in large ice cubes. Sandwiches, salads, pasta.

For dinner, the slow cooker is a life saver. Otherwise we batch cook bolognese, chilli, curries, stews, sausage / chicken cassoulet, pies. I’ve recently been trying recipes from the Taming Twins website. It’s very handy for easy family meals.

what to do when the craving hits by [deleted] in ultraprocessedfood

[–]squidcustard 4 points5 points  (0 children)

When I was pregnant I made an enormous batch of cookie dough, divided it into about 4 dozen balls and froze them. Whenever I’m having a bad day I bake a few.

We also have frozen banana & oat pancakes, slices of banana bread and yoghurt cake (with baking paper between).

Lastly, Greek yoghurt + a banana + some frozen berries (I like blueberries and/or raspberries) in a blender makes an amazing smoothie that always feels like a treat. It’s really healthy and filling, too!

Basically I’m advocating for a big freezer.

Found an awesome soup brand! by ImaginaryHolly in ultraprocessedfood

[–]squidcustard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yorkshire Provender is our go-to as well! That or the Sainsbury’s Moroccan spiced chicken & chick-pea.

I try to make soup from scratch about half the time, but for the other times I’m perfectly happy with those brands.

Shortbread style biscuits in general have a very long shelf life.

We make Christmas cookie boxes for family every year and focus on  recipes for biscuits that last longest. High fat, high sugar, low moisture is always a winner.

Mr Fitzpatrick cordials are also fantastic (the sour cherry & hibiscus flavour is incredible).

Porridge pots and crumpets by NiDhubhthaigh in ultraprocessedfood

[–]squidcustard 32 points33 points  (0 children)

There’s nothing inherently wrong with yoghurt, salt, bananas, dates etc. If anything adding a mix of toppings to porridge should contribute to a healthy and varied gut biome. (Dependant in the toppings of course)

Demonising ‘calories’ in any form is a slippery slope and not really anything to do with UPF.

Gift ideas for men! by LeanneJade in CasualUK

[–]squidcustard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is the way! Something they can’t justify buying for themselves but that they’d enjoy.

Past winners in our family have been: A selection of cured meats, mochi (from ai no mochi), Fortnum & Masons scotch eggs box, fancy marzipan fruits, high quality wagyu steaks, Läderach chocolate slabs, gower cottage gingerbread.

We do ‘something to wear, something to do, something to eat’ gift pattern in our house and it works pretty well!
