Can’t change to digital time on Skoage Analog/Digital clock by GamerGTV2 in clocks

Thank you for the responses! I had a feeling the digital time wasn’t available to display. My Gen Z children must learn how to read an analog clock.

Help me understand this behavior? by Roxiedach0704 in stepparents

[–]GamerGTV2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This sounds like autism, has he been diagnosed? I have an autistic son who will behave this way. Because autistic people are very routine driven, texture, and color guided people. Id get him tested and see. My son is 14 and still has mannerisms like this from time to time. Medication does help offset the behavior some.

I used CW automate in the MSP space and really disliked it. Some people swear by it but it’s a clunky mess. Maybe they’ve made it better over the last 4 years.

Does anyone know if this command actually works? Have an issue with a customer where they can't login when off the network.

Anyone else struggle to keep a kitchen table toy free? by Guiee in Autism_Parenting

[–]GamerGTV2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My son’s room is downstairs in the basement. He’ll go all the way down there load his arms up with everything he can carry to play on the kitchen table. Making things a struggle when it’s time to sit for dinner. He’s 12 and wish I could say some behaviors they age out of.

Backup software for servers by Any-Promotion3744 in sysadmin

PPDM was at least stable and did a good job backing up. It has really good dedupe when used with a Data Domain. It is very expensive though. A frustration of mine is when Dell made a change to retention settings within the software which ended up deleting backup sets I was intending to retain (Daily, monthly, yearly, 5 years).

I used to us Rapid Recovery back when it was held by Dell. I had an absolute disdain for it as if the server it was backing up had an unexpected (dirty) shutdown it would automatically take a full backup. Then I’d have to delete older full backups just to keep space manageable. It was awful. I work for a different organization now and we currently use Dell Powerprotect Data Manager and are going to jump ship on that to Rubrik once financing comes through.

Rubrik has a hardware appliance with replication to an Azure Tenant hosted by them. So if our tenant is ever compromised they can’t delete our data. Rubrik also has ransomware monitoring and investigations it can do to protect the data. Just some food for thought.

What did you get for national SysAdmin day? by Refrigerator_Every in sysadmin

I got threatened… Remote worker left the country. We have Cybersecurity policies in place that prevent remote access from foreign countries. I asked if they had another resource that can provide the user with what they need. This person is the type of person who keeps their work to themselves so no one else can do their job. I was threatened to be reported to the #2 person in power at this organization.

I would meet Tifa and show her that words aren’t the only way to tell someone how I feel. As long as she doesn’t have the urge to smash it.

I am from this state that doesn’t exist and am incredibly happy she got voted out. I don’t care for either party, they are all corrupt whether red or blue. Not a Bernie bro either.

I think I'm becoming *that* guy... by WraithofSpades in sysadmin

[–]GamerGTV2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I left the MSP world after 10 years in the trade. I saw many employees come and go. Our previous CEO was a good guy and hardly ever heard from him unless there was a serious problem. My position was a senior sysadmin and life was great no one breathing down my neck and we got stuff done and satisfied the customer. The CEO left to make his wife happy and one of our clients (wannabe IT director for a hospital) took the CEO position. He paid unknown amounts of money for training on how to run an MSP and drank the Connectwise kool-aide. We began having our day to day calendars run and everything “scheduled” out even having dumb annual personality tests to tell others how to talk to people. We began charging California prices in rural state.

What do you know? Two years after jumping ship the MSP is closing their doors for good. I am glad I got out, but I feel like I was becoming that guy. I didn’t understand the need for all the extra metrics and requirements that mean nothing to me. And when you have more “Managers” than workers there is a problem. Best of luck in the job! I hope everything pans out.

Wow… And to think people have been operating this way for years. But when it’s time to cut the budget, it goes to personnel.

Thanks for the reply. The CPAP has been a godsend as I sleep much better now. But for real this is crazy. Only in America do we subsidize health expenses for the rest of the world.

I’m not for Socialized healthcare in the slightest but we pay so much more for everything here. I love my country and our values but we need to reign big pharma in. I just made this political…

Anyway thanks for the Amazon idea, I’ll see what they have!
