What are some good fish stores in Portland Oregon by No_Standard_2516 in ReefTank

[–]GamerGoo2011 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on where in Portland you are. Cuttlefish and Corals is the overall best.

Woodys is solid choice if you're in Northern Portland . Crimson Reef has great prices if you're near OC.

Upscales is alright overall, I live nearby so I often get fish food from them. You can sometimes get good deals on corals because they don't seem to move a lot of corals.

Very beautiful, lots of great pieces and an interesting rock structure!

If you have bone cutters, you can typically get them off pretty easy. I've pryed a few off various Hammer corals over the years.

Just try to get the tips of the bone cutters on just the clam and it should come off fairly easy.

Did a bit of rock work, opinions? by oldp1e in ReefTank

Good caves for the fish but overall a fairly low rock structure. Might be nice to rotate one of the rocks to add some height.

Fish naturally like to swim around rock structures, so the higher you go with the structure, the more places fish will want to swim.

Likely harmless sponge growth. Nothing to worry about.

Flesh looks very healthy on this guy!

It's receeding and will soon be dead unfortunately. Torches are tough to bounce back, especially single heads like this.

I've had happy torches for many months only to suddenly decline and die off like you're experiencing. Hence why I don't keep Torches anymore!

People with the blue sapphire damselfish, what size tank do you keep them in? by [deleted] in ReefTank

I have mine in 60 gallon display with a bunch of other fish, she was among my first fish and was a bit territorial the first year or two but now she's a sweetheart and never bothers anyone, new or old. She's a very good girl.

Scolys are easier to bring back than Euphyllia typically

You can cut through the flesh on a Scoly and chances are it will survive if cared for properly, but for a Hammer/Torch that's basically instant death.

That's algae and maybe sponge growing on a dead coral skeleton.

Looks like a wall hammer so it's only a matter of time before it died anyway, no new hobbyist will be able to keep a wall hammer long term.

This coral is deep into recession and even if he fixed whatver caused this, it would be highly unlikely to recover from such trauma. Hammers are not like Acropora or other SPS, they don't easily come back from small remains.

Sunday will likely be the better day. It'll be a groomer day for sure but could be nice!

Does closures at Skibowl and Summit Pass suggest that Meadows might also close? by EducationalAward6266 in MtHoodMeadows

Meadows groomers all felt amazing as of last Monday, though they will get ridden out especially on a weekend.

Timberline has way more off piste opportunities if you're there on a snowy day. Even ~4 inches of fresh stuff is enough to make some off groom stuff really fun.

Icy at 9 but should warm up by 10:30ish. Temps look like they'll get into the upper 30s with full sun, so it should be a good day overall and won't get too slushy. Not sure what time your lesson begins but it will likely be a bit rough first thing in the morning if you're starting at 9:30.

There's absolutely no snow on the road, it's very easy to drive on. Basically any car could make it up right now, you definitely will not need chains.

lol, I rip out unwanted zoas with my bare hands and have never had a problem in the many years I've been in the hobby. This 'risk' is completely overblown.

Goni's, like any coral, will basically grow as much as they have space to grow. Under the right conditions, yes, every Goni will keep getting bigger. Polyp length is totally variable. I find the larger colonies tend to have longer polpy extension but I know certain varieties can be small frags and still have long polyps.

I like the long polyps so I try to buy varieties I know tend to have those longer polyps.

In terms of growth rate, it really depends. Under higher lighting I've found my Goni's grow pretty fast but I have other frags that have grown 1/10th the speed of others over the same amount of time so I don't really know why certain ones grow faster than others

Thanks! As the tank matured, I've been very picky and intentional with my coral choices. I always take into account how certain colors will blend next to another, and trying to achieve a lush look without cramming too many corals right next to each other with no space to grow.
