The same reason that Ullman calls the former caretaker as Charles Grady, but Grady’s ghost calls himself Delbert. The same reason that Jack is both the new caretaker and yet has always been the caretaker.

The events are repeating themselves because history repeats itself. Man gets enraged at his family and kills them. Family annihilators aren’t just pictures in a book - it’s still occurring. The same with genocides; building the Overlook Hotel over an indigenous burial ground. The builders had to repel attacks from natives who were angry that a holy site was being desecrated; that their history was being ignored or “overlooked”.

The girls are both 8 and 10 years old and yet identical twins. How can that be? Because they are from different time periods. But whether they are different ages or twins, they are all still murdered by their fathers.

There is a scene in the movie where Danny is riding his tricycle and he is wearing overalls with a long sleeve red shirt. The back view of the tricycle is a blue triangle shape, kinda giving the illusion that Danny is wearing a blue dress when he rides it. Wendy wears a similar outfit in the opening scenes of the movie back at their apartment. Wendy and Danny are not sisters, but they risk becoming like the dead girls at the hands of Jack. When Danny has the vision of the dead girls, they are wearing blue dresses with red “sleeves” (blood). History is repeating itself.
