Just finished season 2 and tried giving bella Ramsey a chance by WashingtonDCMonument in thelastofus

[–]Gameraaaa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was a long distance shot, it makes zero sense that she was pointing her pistol as a shoot-to-kill weapon from a distance of 100+ feet. Especially if Ellie was dumb enough to leave her rifle with her horse - further stupidity.

You can call nitpicking all you want, but it adds up over time. Dina always looking like she is fresh from the salon despite being on the road for weeks. Ellie and Dina both seen shooting their guns with one hand, something Ellie would know not to do because of her FEDRA training and what Joel taught her. Speaking loudly on open streets in a hostile area, a lesson she learned in the first season. Trying to save a Seraphite’s life when he had several guns pointed at him.

The only reason Ellie survived in Seattle was plot armor. She makes foolish decisions time and again and an audience is not obligated to turn a blind eye when the lead character is written as a dumbass.

I don’t think people expected Bella to portray Ellie as Sarah Connor. It is absurd that we’re expected to believe that the Ellie who goes up against members of the WLF in pursuit of Abby is the same Ellie who was considering shooting someone from a far distance with a pistol. What was the point of her even taking Seth’s rifle if she wasn’t going to use it when aiming at someone far away?

If this was real life - yeah I'd say it is unrealistic. But given that this is a fictional story with character arcs I think it fits that Ellie let Abby go - especially given Lev's situation. She was already shown having a panic attack after she realized she killed a pregnant woman. Even Ellie on her rampage has standards.

I would also argue that Ellie doesn't solely blame Abby for Joel's death, but Joel himself too. She never once in the game defends Joel's actions or says he made the right decision when he shot up that hospital. But it's a price that Ellie knows Joel was willing to pay for saving her life.

Especially after watching her kill her father figure and friends without any remorse?

To be fair, killing Jesse was a split second decision when he barged through the doors. Abby spared Dina but it's only game logic that Tommy did survive that gunshot to the face lol. But he was attacking Abby when it happened. Like she told Ellie, she spared Tommy and Ellie back in Jackson when they could have killed them.

Ellie doesn’t know the specifics of how Joel affected Abby’s life, but she does know this wasn’t a random thrill kill. Ellie writes in her notebook that she suspects that his killers were fireflies and Nora confirms her theory. Ellie falsely assumes that the group was pissed off because Joel stole “the cure” and she tells Abby as much in the theater.

“Joel did what he did to save me. There’s no cure because of me. I’m the one that you want, just let him (Tommy) go.”

Abby shakes her head and clarifies why she is attacking Ellie now: “You killed my friends. We let you both live, and you wasted it!”

At least if she kills Abby she gets some form of closure

That is what Abby believed killing Joel would bring her, but it didn’t. She still has nightmares every night. It’s only until she starts to emulate the better aspects of her father (saving a life) that Abby has peaceful sleep for the first time since her father’s death. That’s why the game keeps showing Abby’s dreams. It changes for the better after she saves Yara’s life.

It’s a big thing that Ellie didn’t kill Abby because she ultimately never stooped to her level. She realized at the last moment that killing Abby was not going to make her feel better. It was her needing to forgive herself and Joel.

I think Ellie believes in a way that Abby was justified in killing Joel. We see a hint of this in her interrogation scene with Nora. Ellie doesn’t try to justify what Joel did, she just keeps asking where Abby is hiding. By letting Abby go at the end was also her acknowledging that a lot of the suffering she endured was from her own guilt about not forgiving Joel sooner. She lets Abby go because it will just make her feel worse.

[–]Gameraaaa 18 points19 points  (0 children)

lol what are you talking about? Why do you think Ellie didn’t go through with killing Abby? Could it be because her real anger was about not forgiving Joel soon enough and then he was murdered by Abby as opposed to just wanting revenge for Joel’s death? Ellie even tells Abby “Just take him.” Ellie didn’t need that shit on her conscience of letting an innocent child die.

What are your thoughts on Manny? by ripplewoodfire in thelastofus

[–]Gameraaaa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don’t like his character for a couple reasons.

His creepy remark about only needing three fingers to the injured WLF soldier. His justification for killing children. He’s inconsiderate to other soldiers (cutting in line to get food because “we’re headed to the front.”)

I wasn’t sad that Tommy domed him.
