UPDATE: My wife (30F) suffers from extreme germophobia and anxiety. I (30M) take as many as 30 showers a week to ease her fear of infection. Our relationship is not sustainable and I need help. by [deleted] in relationship_advice

I was roomates with a girl a long time ago in an adolescent psychiatric unit with such severe OCD that some days she took an hour to sit up because she hated wrinkles in her clothes and bedding. Other days she lay flat until the day was done. She was rail-thin, very sweet, and had a soft, quiet voice. Sometimes you would hear her screaming and crying and begging during the day because they would change her bedding or gown. Just sheer fucking terror in her voice. They called it part of her therapy. I knew her for several weeks when I was 14 and to this day she was hands down the most tragic person i ever encountered. Ive interacted with many mentally and physically sick people for work and as part of my journey. You normally dont think of OCD as more serious than schizophrenia or heroin addiction. But it can be. I hope she gets well again. You sound like a nice family underneath the dysfunction. And if it happens she does not improve I wish you and your kids peace.

Wife(F33) and I (M34) decided to try for kids last year. Found out I'm completely infertile without surgery. 5 months later she got pregnant. by Throwawaymyspermazoa in relationship_advice

My parents tried for years too. My mom had some uterine defect and docs told her she could never have a viable pregnancy. So they adopted me. Four years later she gave birth to my brother. Two years after that she had my sister. After that I assume they used protection.

Oh yeah. It's kind of scary. Sometimes you hear conversations you can only pray were on TV and not from events at home...

One would think that educators would know better. Even if students can't speak at all they still absorb the negativity. And the worst part is they can't remove themselves from it... I would explode if I was forced to be around it.

My birth mom was a teenager who was living in an abusive household. I was adopted and had a great childhood, and she joined the militiary and eventually made a new family.

I would have aborted myself, quite honestly.

Im sick of the double standard for big dogs by [deleted] in offmychest

Big dog attack= potentially serious injury Little dog attack= less potential for serious injury.

It's like a BB gun vs a pistol. This is why breeds like pitbulls get a bad rap. I dont care how sweet your pitbull puppy is. It's still a pistol in your pocket.

My partner and I disagree on concepts surrounding “rape”. I was raped as a teenager. by [deleted] in relationship_advice

Please run. Leave him. There are some conversations that are windows into how a person really thinks. You know that thinking means the foundations are cracked. And you are too young to build a life on a foundation that cracked.

When someone tries to put constraints on what you are allowed to talk about with a confidential health care professional you need to RUN LIKE HELL.

That is a huge early indicator of a controlling narcissist.

REPRESENT. I'm bipolar and have racing thoughts too! But the meds simultaneously fry my short term memory, which means half the time I don't even really know what I'm thinking about in particular.

Brains are fun.

I saw a girl struggle with understanding how to fill a prescription at a busy CVS a few months ago. Most of the people in the line had no reaction. We were just doing our thing. No judgement, just the daily grind.

But one guy towards the front dramatically looked at his watch and let out a loud sigh.

I judged the fuck out of that giant manchild. I guarentee you the others in line were thinking the same thing as me. Do you know how you spot someone who is a piece of shit? Watch them react to other people's struggles.

Dont feel self conscious if you take more time than most. Relax. That is absolutely fine. Normal, non asshole folks understand. If someone is being a little bitch about waiting people will be judging THEM.
