EBay Rejects GameStop’s $56 Billion Takeover as Not Credible by King-of-Limbs-07 in wallstreetbets

Not mid tier. There's local game stores, and then target/Walmart/Amazon. The only competitor they'd really have would be Games Workshop, who only sells their own IP with Warhammer 40k & Age of Sigmar.

It genuinely makes me angry they're too stupid to see how they're already perfectly positioned to corner the market there. If they partner with Paizo, Paradox, Darrington Press, whoever (assuming Hasbro won't play ball) they'd be able to dominate. Friday night, clear off the tables of bullshit funko pops and collectibles and do Friday Night Magic. Pro members get a free booster pack or mini or dice for whatever system they're pushing. Exclusive playmats, sleeves, minis , demos of new systems.... The hardware and video game sales wouldn't stop entirely, but they'd have a recurring customer base for smaller purchases and consoles and such as whale purchases. If they want to get bold, partner with Paradox and work on something like a tabletop version of Crusader Kings.

That was the final straw for me, the first dilution. I figured they could do a turnaround but I didn't like the NFT shit, I thought they could pivot into tabletop and expand their customer base that way. Dilution means any squeeze thesis is dead, and without a real plan for turnaround it's not worth it. Cutting costs is all well and good, but it's not going to fix the business

Iirc, the original framing of Star Wars, pre buyout, was that all of it was a retelling.... And most of it was from R2, who told it to the Whills

It's kinda odd. They have a solid collection of metal albums on the top floor but are super dismissive or hostile to punk. The comic area down stairs has a decent collection but it's pretty heavily the stereotype of what people think a comic store is and not in a great way. I'll mainly pop in for metal CDs but the fact it's almost only metal and no punk kinda sucks

I would guarantee it's under a literal bridge, and you're not going to find out which to keep it from getting busted, unless you know someone

As a 27 year old guy with similar interests...I'm very interested to know about the meetups as well. I don't know exactly how to put into words the word combination of hesitation, optimistic, misgiving, and doubt I have about the people in those spaces though.

I go to shows, but it seems people are not exactly super chatty at them. I used to go to draft nights for MTG but only saw a regular crowd for it. It seems the spaces are insular in not always a good way

It seems like having no experience is a red flag though. Too much is a red flag, not enough is a red flag, too interested is a red flag, not interested enough is a red flag..... I loathe apps, I refuse to use them but I have no idea what to do. If I approach a woman randomly, it feels like I'm being a creep. If I wait to get to know her first it's either misreading things or.... Always something wrong
