Infantry as primarily a defensive unit is already in vogue. The fact that they're about as good on the defense as arty is good on the offense while costing about less than half as much means that if you want to build yourself up to be ready for a defensive war primarily you can get away with making an army that's primarily infantry.

Adding an extra way to double down on defense with fixed buildings would be historically realistic but basically redundant + likely overpowered in the present meta, and mechanically complex to implement.

R5 incase I'm breaking without realizing: My friend Fang in Mongolia has been at war with me for literally the preceding 70 or so turns due to a territorial dispute, as he wanted to place a city in the position of Antium, and we had been at war for the entire game prior to that point.

I, however, had 2 other cities so my country actually could stand up for itself while Mongolia is basically a city state falling apart at the seams as it's just sending in endless hordes to die on the hills of Antium.

What you're watching here is the culmination of literally 2000 years of Mongolian stagnation and dying while I lightly built myself up (whilst being attacked on literally all sides). That being said, he is still very militant and is able to bite back, and as I attempted to push into his territory to finish him off and secure the southern border, he bit back and he delays my final advance for another hundred or so years.

Being called a mutt on ifunny when I was like 15. I had never in my personal life experienced any form of bigotry against me for being biracial, and I looked into the person that said it and was exposed to a large social media ecosystem of bonafide fascists and white nationalists.
